Please Help - I can't get my standing desk to go down / recalibrate its height settings

I got this desk from a thrift store for like $40 like 2 years ago. During my time of owning, it got stuck at a really tall height once before and I managed to reset it somehow and it fixed itself. Except it wouldn't sit all the way at the physical bottom limit. It would always park just a little bit above it. I decided that was fine and have delt with it being slightly taller than my desk chair to the discomfort of my arms and wrists.

Well today, I felt brave and tired of my wrists hurting so I decided I was going to fix it fully and completely... this ended up going horribly wrong. I raised the desk some, power cycled it, then the software locked that height in as the floor.

I tried holding the UP + DOWN arrow buttons and it went into what looked like a calibration mode where it rose up to the physical max height, made a click sound, then began its decent. However, it stopped much shorter of the bottom and stayed about 6 inches higher than before I started trying to work on it. Great.

I kept trying to reset it in various ways. Power cycling. Holding down the DOWN arrow. Holding down both the UP + DOWN arrows. It running the calibration thing again and stopping in the exact same spot about 6inches from the bottom.

Next, I tried FULLY dismantling the desk to remove the motor to try to manually lower the legs to the bottom then rebuild it. That was a great idea except I couldn't get the fucking motor out because it's just built into the right leg. No way to remove it and manually reset it. Holy fuck.

Finally, after rebuilding it, I got the genius idea to raise it all the way to the top, power cycle it, and try the UP + DOWN reset method.... now it does not initiate the calibration mode and after holding down the UP + DOWN buttons it will just display "EEE". I've tried holding the UP+DOWN buttons down for 2 minutes longer while the EEE was displayed and nothing.

I have tried holding just the DOWN arrow button down too to no avail.

I don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone please help?

This is model number of the controller: TH-HZCG-SIHIE

I have no other identifying information as to what brand this is. Clearly some cheap desk from Amazon.

The only other desk of this style i've found on the internet is this users post asking how to get the motor bar off: https://www.reddit.com/r/StandingDesk/comments/1gjnbm2/how_do_i_get_this_motor_off_the_rod/

20% off. Buy now or wait for Black Friday?

I’ve been looking at this desk for a while. It’s 20% off right now, down from $1,999.

The price itself isn’t really the issue. I’m more stuck on whether to take the 20% off now or wait and see if Black Friday ends up being better.

Also debating whether I should get the matching chair (on sale too) or just start with the desk. The product photo is for reference.

Which walnut standing desk?

Hi,

I’m looking to buy a standing desk with a walnut desktop. Shipping costs for the Vernal are huge if you aren't in Germany, the UK, or the US; Herman Miller is prohibitively expensive; and what about Flexispot? It’s the most affordable option, but strangely enough, I can't find any real photos of their desktop. They’ve released a solid walnut version, but I can't find any user taken photos of it does anyone have any pics of this ? Thanks.

What standing desk base does my friend need for a desk like this?

So to sum it up my roommate is having this desktop made. I think it’s oak and black in colour. They want to put this on a height adjusting base but aren’t sure what they need. They are asking me but I haven’t got a clue either where or how to help them because I don’t know what is required. So thought I would ask reddit.

DeskHaus Apex Pro 4 year thoughts

Back in 2022, I bought an Apex Pro with the idea of adding my own butcher block island top to use as my desk. Here are a few thoughts/experiences of using this as my desk over the last 4 years.

I bought the Apex Pro with Smart Paddle and I got the extended foot size to accommodate the 72"x39" top. I also bought the 3inone power unit.

Assembly of the frame was fairly straight forward, though everything is HEAVY. I was able to do a lot of stuff on my own, but I think it would have been safer to have help. (Any 2 people should be able to handle this larger/heavier desk.)

With the kitchen island top installed, this desk is incredibly stable, even at full height. I'm only 6', so even standing, I'm nowhere near maxing out this desk. If I really try I can rock the desk a little, but during normal use it never moves. Even when I lean on the desk or bump into it.

The desk moves pretty silently and quickly. FWIW, between the butcher block top, my computers, monitors, and accessories, I must have 120+ pounds (~54kg) that these motors seem to lift with ease. It also is pretty smart about detecting obstacles. I have a rigid desk skirt installed and if that gets caught on the trash can as I lower the desk, the desk stops before anything gets crushed.

The Smart paddle in normal use is super easy to use. However, I needed to refer back to the documentation to either set or reset the memory on heights. The paddle is shockingly durable! I've smashed into it many times with my chair and it's still working just fine.

So far, I'd say 10/10 for the Apex Pro frame with the smart paddle. This is a well built product and it's an excellent value!

As I mentioned, I also got the 3inone power unit. While it works as advertised, I found it just doesn't really fit with how I setup my desk. I ended up switching to a single wide spaced power strip screwed to the bottom of the desk. I think it's a cool idea, but it just didn't quite fit my needs. For $250, it's hard to recommend just as a "see if it works for you", but if you think it sounds good it probably is worth at least trying it.

Is a 25 inch wide standing desk actually usable for everyday WFH?

I'm graduating in a few weeks and will probably be moving to the Bay Area for my first full-time job. Most of the studios I’m looking at are somewhere around 350–450 sq ft, so a normal 48- or 60-inch desk would become a pretty permanent part of the living space.

I’ll be working from home two or three days a week. My setup is fairly light: a 14-inch laptop, a 24-inch monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I don’t need drawers or space for a desktop PC.

I’ve started looking at folding desks under 30 inches wide instead. The musso d7 is currently on my shortlist because its desktop is roughly 25 × 19 inches, but I can’t tell whether that depth would feel cramped after a full workday. I would remove the monitor before adjusting or moving the desk, so I’m mainly concerned about normal typing stability at standing height.

For anyone who has used a sub-30-inch folding standing desk long term, was the real limitation desktop depth, typing wobble, or having to set it up and put it away every day?

Under Desk PC Mounting Quandry

I’ve got a wider PC case(Corsair 4000D 9”x18”). I was all set to purchase an uplift desk but began looking at the pc mount option they offer and it doesn’t work(8.25 width is the widest).

Vernal’s option is an unsecured one, which I do not like. Flexispots max width appears to be 8.5” also.

The best design I’m seeing that would fit is the Secret Labs unless I’m mistaken?

Without having the PC mounted it kind of eliminates the entire purpose of what I’m trying to do here.

Are there other options out there that people can point me too? I’m not seeing anything.

Thanks!

Looking to buy a Height adjustable desk, UK. Very new to all this but really trying to focus on value.

Please be nice. I'm just trying to get a good quality, long lasting height adjustable desk for my PC setup. I need at least 70cm W but ideally towards the smaller end for length because of space constraints.

I don't really have a clear idea for pricing but i really don't want to be spending any more than £300 at maximum, including shipping/travel costs but i'd much prefer to spend a lot less if it all possible.

I'd need it to hold my whole computer, which probably weighs about ~20KG in total so it does need to have decent weight capabilities. I don't care much for special features or anything, i want something pretty basic with minimal points of failure or added costs.

Really i'm looking for all the advice/info i can get at this point in time. Thanks in advance :)

A sit-stand desk that can actually accommodate my 65 lb piano controller

My requirements for a standing desk were probably a little unusual.

I didn’t just need somewhere for a monitor and keyboard. I needed the desk to coexist with a Kawai VPC1, an 88-key weighted piano controller weighing around 29.5 kg / 65 lbs.

I eventually went with an ErgoHide desk together with their large pull-out keyboard tray.

The biggest benefit is that the VPC1 stays permanently integrated into the workstation rather than sitting on a separate stand. I pull it forward when I’m playing and slide it underneath when I want access to the full desktop.

At the same time, the desk itself is electrically height-adjustable, so I still get the normal sit/stand functionality without having to compromise the music setup.

I was especially interested in how the whole thing would feel with such a heavy keyboard underneath. So far, I’ve been very happy with how substantial the setup feels in daily use.

I also chose a solid oak top, which looks fantastic in person and gives the desk a much less “office furniture” feeling.

There are some nice quality-of-life details too: lighting integrated along the back, cable management underneath and magnetic headphone hangers on the sides.

Definitely a more niche use case for a standing desk, but perhaps useful for someone else trying to build a hybrid studio/workstation.

Looking for Standing Desk Converter that ships to Spain

I was all set to buy the Vari but they no longer sell to the EU. FlexiDesk had nothing. There were 2 German companies that did not ship to Spain.

I want to avoid buying from Amazon.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

DIY Controller?

I've been searching through posts and I see a lot of "DIY builds" but they are all purchased legs with motor and controller, and a DIY top. I also see a lot of "Replacement Controller" posts with very little success of finding a working replacement.

I find myself with a 3 year old desk (Claiks) from Amazon that the controller went out and the manufacturer no longer offers parts for. My current options appear to be:

  1. I now have a desk that is only good for sitting and my walking pad collects dust.

  2. I throw away an otherwise perfectly good desk and buy another.

  3. I figure out a way to bring my desk and motor back to life with a new controller.

My question is this, does anyone offer a universal controller? Or some guidance on assembling the hardware and programming an arduino/ESP32/R-Pi to take it's place?

Question about L-shaped standing desk

I currently have a single standing desk that I have 2 27in monitors on for my gaming PC. I've been looking at getting an L-shaped desk so I can ideally use one side for my gaming PC and the other for my work PC. I have 2 additional 24" monitors that would be used for the work station for now (subject to change) and then a couple laptops and docking stations. I previously had a KVM switch set up for both systems but I'd rather have each up on its own set of hardware.

I was looking at the Flexispot 71x63in L-shaped option on Amazon.

My question is, if anybody uses a similar L-shaped setup, would there be enough room to reasonably house 2 centered dual monitor setups on each side taking the corner overlap into consideration?

The image is an AI render of the kind of set up I am looking for but I haven't seen the desk in person and some of the pictures Ive come across haven't been very convincing that it would work like this. I'm not positive on the corner overlap dimensions so they were just an estimate. Or maybe it would be better to just get a second regular desk?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm open to any suggestions on a way to make this work and look nice.

The desk I'm looking at purchasing: https://a.co/d/09o3Pxt5

Best Adjustable Desk Brand — What’s the “Herman Miller of Desks”?

Best Adjustable Desk Brand — What’s the “Herman Miller of Desks”?

I’m putting together a high-end professional workstation for design and writing, and I’m looking for a height-adjustable desk that I can buy once and keep for many years.

I’m not particularly concerned about price. I’m more interested in quality, reliability, stability, ergonomics, build quality, and long-term durability.

For reference, I’m approaching this like:

  • Chair: Herman Miller Aeron
  • Monitor arm: Ergotron
  • Monitor: BenQ

So I’m looking for the equivalent “standard” or benchmark brand for adjustable desks.

I’ve seen brands like Uplift, Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth, Fully, etc., but it’s difficult to tell which brands are genuinely considered top-tier versus just heavily marketed online.

If money were not a major concern, what adjustable desk brand/model would you personally choose?

Also interested in recommendations for the best frame/mechanism, regardless of the desktop surface.

Thanks!

How come some office chairs that look identical cost way more? Is it all just brand markup?

I get the whole you get what you pay for thing, but office chairs are one category where I still don’t really understand where the extra money goes.

I keep seeing stuff from nouhaus all the way up to Herman Miller. is the difference mostly materials and build quality, but...when office chairs look identical (even the materials are the same), some brands still cost more. Is it simply because of the brand itself?or do you genuinely notice it while sitting for a few hours?

my current chair was under $300 and I’ve had it about two years. honestly, it still feels fine.

nothing is falling apart and I’m not constantly uncomfortable, so I’m having a hard time picturing what a real upgrade is supposed to feel like 😅

if you went from a basic chair to something more expensive, what was the first thing that felt obviously better?

If your budget was $500 max, what standing desk would you get?

Given my budget, is there any particular model or desk that comes to mind?

Considering flexispot and uplift, but most uplift desks are more than $500.

Need it to be 48" or bigger. Space to have a monitor setup, keyboard, and room to breathe.

Looking at a the flexispot fusion elite

This desk looks incredible and like it would have everything I want from a desk. Which is a large top as well as decent storage. But, I keep seeing posts about the brands poor customer service. How bad of an idea is it to buy a $1500+ desk from them? Is there anyone else that does it better?

Which would you buy?

The uplift has another $100 off with a coupon, but the deskhaus is rubberwood. 6’4, though long arms so measured my standing desk work height would be only around 44-45”. I prefer the frame color on the uplift, but the deskhaus is a bit cheaper.

Looking for a 140x60cm black laminate/melamine standing desk (or just the desktop) that ships to Europe

I am looking for a sit-stand desk, and it must ship to Europe. I need a 140 cm x 60 cm size with a durable laminate/melamine desktop, and it must be black. A standalone black desktop is also an option, as I am having trouble finding this exact size as a complete setup. Shipping from outside the EU is fine as long as they deliver here.

Standing desk incorporated in normal desk

I am working my desk / home office setup with some renders.

I want to incorperate a standing desk into the normal desk, I am wondering if anyone has ever done it?

This is the first renders I have made. You can see the white outline where the standing desk should be, designer forgot the legs and the dimensions are somewhat wrong.
