Being asked to bring your own bedding and towels to Airbnb?

Hi everyone! I’m visiting Sweden soon and was warned by my friends living there that many Airbnb hosts may ask me to bring my own bedding and towels. It did in fact happen, and I‘m wondering why it’s a common practice! I’ve traveled a fair bit and have never encountered this (frankly it seems crazy to me to have to travel with towels + bed sheets, especially when packing light). I’m curious what’s the rationale behind this apparently being somewhat common in Sweden.

Slutology: explain my friend to me

I have this female friend (early 20s, university educated, not a moron) who keeps hooking up with random men like crazy. Lots of one night stands whenever and wherever, even when she’s vacationing with her parents. The last bit is kinda questionable but still, up to this point it’s all good - she’s young and having fun.

The problematic bit is that she does not use protection. Any. She’s not on any birth control (no IUDs, implants, pills), so there’s nothing protecting her from getting pregnant, AND she does not use condoms either, or any other measures that would protect her from contracting STDs. Let me reiterate: these are random ass men she’s having sex with. One of them told her prior-to-coitus that he‘d had sex with over 300 women and she, by her own admission, was “not confident enough to ask him to wear a condom”. Her only safety measure is the pull out method (not very effective; also, STDs???).

As an aside: despite all these hook ups, she’s also never had an orgasm.

Anyways, whenever she tells our friend group these stories (and it’s been a couple years now), we’re always horrified / worried that she’s not using any protection, keep reminding her to do that & be safe, and have even offered to buy her condoms (repeatedly). She just laughs it off. She’s always been a bit man obsessed but this is crazy.

I want to be clear that there’s nothing wrong with enjoying causal sex / promiscuity. But why the hell is she so irresponsible & negligent when it comes to her health & safety?

What the hell is wrong with this woman??

Do you match your rings to your nails?

I love the visual cohesiveness created by nail polish and rings (sometimes bracelets too) working in tandem aesthetically. I always go crazy with silver rings whenever I wear silver nail polish and adore that look, but I need new ideas. Also, some people in this sub have amazingly whimsical ring collections so I’m open to any recommendations!

Are my friends male centered or do I have unrealistic expectations and should get laid

Recently, me and my two female friends met up for a long awaited yearly life catch up. We’re all in our early twenties and have known each other since high school, but now all study and live in different countries, so we can meet in person maybe once or max twice a year. These sparse hang outs are precious.

But this one was disappointing. It started with the conversation orbiting around men. It ended with the conversation orbiting around men. In between, it kept coming back to men. Who is dating whom. Who is sleeping with whom, cheating on whom, repairing what with whom, or seeing herself perhaps one day having children with whom.

I’m going to sound like a sour old maid, but these are two freaking bright young women with a lot going on for them. Finishing their bachelor’s, graduating, traveling, planning master’s programmes, or gap years. One is a month away from moving to another side of the world for 2 years to teach kids there English. They have exciting freaking lives and clever minds, WHY ARE THEY TALKING MOSTLY ABOUT MEN.

When guys hang out, do they spend most of their precious time and energy analyzing their romantic relationships? I doubt it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to get a love life update. But for that topic to dominate the whole hang out? No, thank you. I tried to steer the conversation away but mostly failed. Even when I asked about interesting books they’ve recently read, the recommendations I got were about men & dating.

I know I’m a bit unusual because I don’t have much interest in dating or sex, and have been happily single by choice for basically forever. I also know people’s 20s are typically intense romance-wise, but.. is this level of male centeredness amongst young women to be expected? I notice it with SO MANY of my female friends that I rarely find one whose conversational interests do not orbit around it. I know girls are socialized for that outcome, but it’s still so disappointing (and alienating) to see bright young women who are just beginning their lives so centered on guys. Now in our 20s the main topic is men, in our 30s and beyond it will be kids.

I vented to my mom but got told I’m the weird one here and to get a man. So, rs_x, give me your online wisdom.

Why is the indie nail polish scene nonexistent in Europe?

This question has been plaguing me for a while. To my knowledge, there are no EU-based indie nail polish brands. Why? American makers are ordering most pigments from China anyway, so it’s not like the US has some ”natural resources” dominance, yet the grand majority of indie nail polish brands is concentrated there.

Controversial takes: which brands do you not mess with?

Here to stir the pot.

Personally, I dislike Holo Taco and (somewhat) ILNP.

For Holo Taco, their branding just rubs me off the wrong way and their catalogue is not to my taste.

ILNP - I have a couple shades and they are all… correct with good formulas but nothing particularly memorable or wow inducing. Which is kinda a big letdown in of itself because I was preparing to be blown away when I bought their beloved icons like Flower Child or Eclipse.

Tell me your controversial dislikes 👀

What’s your fastest, “I have no time for a manicure” manicure?

What polish and/or routine do you default to when life gets too busy?

Personally, I go with “World’s First” by Holo Taco because it dries extremely fast and is fully opaque in 1-2 coats. Express 5 min mani and I love silver nails.

NO TRAVELERS at my hostel - why?

I’m staying at a hostel in San Fransisco for a couple nights. Great reviews, expensive, central location, nice facilities, plenty of guests… just no travelers, it seems! People here are mostly middle aged or older, and they seem to be working professionals, spending hours in common spaces working on their laptops.

There’s also no camaraderie I’ve come to associate with hostels. Everyone keeps to themselves and whatever work they are doing. It’s a really weird vibe for a hostel. Feels more like temporary housing for locals than a spot for travelers.

I welcome any of your insight as to why this is the case and how to avoid this is in the future.

What the hell happened. i’m pissed

Tried logging in back after a year... The app served me the new “intro questions” and I ran straight to this sub to figure out what the hell happened.

I’m really disappointed and sad. I successfuly used couchsurfing for the past 4 years. Put a ton of effort into my profile and each request; met so many amazing people; had great adventures. This… what even is this. AND WHY?

Hypnotic spirals

I was absolutely obsessed with this spiral manicure idea ever since I saw a rendition of it on this sub (credited below). Finally gave it a go a week ago and I could not be more pleased with the results! Fair to say, this manicure has hypnotized me.

Product list:

Ella+Mila Base Coat

Golden Rose Wow! shade 21 mixed with an orly nude to serve as a blurring base of sorts

ILNP “Flower Child“

Lurid “Indomitable“

TwinkledT - Cyclone spirals (various sizes)

Please help me find my perfect polish!

I’m looking for an intense green with a strong hot pink shift / shimmer / magnetic pigment.

I have “Green Goddess“ by Sassy Sauce and it’s great, but I’m looking for a darker, cleaner, less prugly green. Same issue with DVN’s “Praying Mantis’s Love Story”. Mooncat’s “Garden of Evil” is similarly too muddy in its green base color. ILNP‘s “Power Surge”, on the other hand, is too pastel 😭

Does the polish of my dreams exist?

Hello everyone! I'm a college student and I'm working on a CS project aimed at designing app features that detect and combat romance scams. To better understand the issue, I am looking to interview people who experienced romance scams or who have family members who did.
The interview would take place over the reddit chat, be anonymous, and take up to 10 minutes. I'd be extremely grateful for your time - please message me if you're be open to participating. Thank you :)
