Non-existent appealing options
Hi everyone,
I have a strong background in law, so the idea of appealing to a higher instance is completely normal to me, not only in the legal system but also in corporate and administrative environments.
Something I've observed in the church, especially during my years as a clerk, is the practical impossibility of appealing to higher leaders if local leaders mess up. I imagine this happens to "avoid speaking evil of the Lord's anointed" and to unconditionally "support the leadership." I say this because a member's experience often feels like a game of Russian roulette depending on whether they get a competent and fair immediate leader (like a bishop, stake president, or mission president).
Does anyone know why this difficulty in appealing exists in the church?
