My first attempt at hot process

I made this for my son at his request. He's a pipe fitter and so you can imagine his hands when he gets off work. This was meant to be a 1 lb batch for my littlest loaf mold, but I think my amounts were a bit off because I had a fair amount left over when the mold was full--I'll be keeping those round ones to use after yardwork!

I used a mixture of pumice, bentonite clay, and activated charcoal to give his hands a good scrub and help with degreasing, and since the mixed up additives were that spooky grey, we decided to scoop out some to make the orange swirl and put some Halloween MP embeds on. It's unscented, also at his request. I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

Question about embeds

Do y'all make embeds and decorations out of melt and pour or do you use the same cold process as the main soap bar? And what about the long tubes that you'd embed within the soap bar? Thanks for any advice!

New to soapmaking!

Hi! I've been lurking for a little while and decided to finally introduce myself 😁 I'm completely new to making soap, my son in law and I teamed up for our first batch of the Dollar Tree Beginner's Soap from Soaping101 on Youtube. After that we found Soapcalc, and this is the most recent batch. We let my mom "drive" this one and we're super happy with how it turned out! We wanted a eucalyptus spearmint scent but the spearmint EO we had turned out to be not skin safe, so instead we used 50% of the water as strongly brewed spearmint tea and also added a tea bag's worth of spearmint tea leaves. The black is activated charcoal. It smells so nice, it's so hard to wait for it to be ready to use!

Anyway, I've learned a lot from reading everyone's posts in here. This sub is such a great source of information, and everyone is so supportive. I'm really happy I found this sub!

AAAWOOOOOOOO

You can also hear Spot, Titus' papa, but I couldn't get him in frame 😂 I cannot express how much I love this pup!

Titus has a terrific auntie

My mother's dog is so good with him! She's gentle and plays so sweetly with him, and she'll actually bring his toys over to him. I finally caught it on video!

Good girl, Bella!

My heart is healing... Meet Titus

I have to give credit to the breeder who gave me Domino, the pup who passed away. There was a very tragic and infuriating situation where it appears someone deliberately poisoned the puppies, because the entire litter got sick the exact same way and went downhill exactly as quickly. Parvo doesn't work like that. Only 2 puppies survived, and she offered me this beautiful guy to make things right. Any suspicions I had about her are swept away. She's a good person in a situation out of her control.

So all of that aside, I did decide to take the pup! She got him tested and he doesn't have parvo, just to be safe. He's energetic, alert, playful, and eats like a horse. I named him Titus because he's going to be HUGE if his paws are any indication!

Since this group was so supportive and comforting to me the night Domino went into the hospital and subsequently passed away, I just wanted y'all to know that things are so much better. He can't be replaced, but we love this guy a lot. 💖

Domino has parvo 😭

Edit: The vet just called. Domino didn't make it.

Thanks to everyone for the comfort yesterday. May all your dogs have long, healthy lives.

Original post:

He came home to us late Wednesday night and I attributed his low appetite Thursday to being upset about leaving his mama. But he started throwing up water Thursday night and my amazing vet was able to squeeze him in today to check on him because his decline overnight was awful, and they diagnosed him. They said there's a monoclonal antibody treatment now? I was always told that parvo was a death sentence so I was really stunned to hear that. He's in the hospital now getting fluids, antibiotics, and nausea meds in addition to that parvo treatment.

Has anyone ever had any experience with that parvo treatment? My vet said Domino has a fair chance to pull through because we got him in early and he's had his first 2 parvo vaccinations, but I'm just so worried. If anyone has had a pup treated with this and your pup pulled through, it would make me feel so much less scared. (I did immediately notify his mama's owner, because if Domino has it, they almost certainly all have it 😭)

He's such a sweet pup and we waited so long for him. I just want him to come back home.

Welcome home, Domino!

Last picture is him with his papa Spot! So far he's doing well, it's always a rough first night away from mama but he's getting along with everyone well so far.

Spot is my parents' outstanding LGD who has looked after their goats and chickens for years, and has never lost a single animal to a predator. He's so good at his job and also is the sweetest boy who just melts when you pet him. He sired a litter with a friend's 75% Anatolian/25% Pyr mix and this weekend I'll be bringing home Spot's son Domino! The mom's owner has done a fantastic job raising the pups around so many different animals including cats, which is great cuz I have a cat too. Domino is going to spend a lot of time with his dad until my place is ready next door, so I told Spot he's about to get an apprentice so train him up right! I'm so excited that I had to share somewhere! 🥰
