This “story” about the 70s

I saw this ad on facebook. I didn’t know anyone living like this lol. Although i think they were on the other side of my town, where the “rich girls” lived.

https://fb.watch/J2TJEl1WjW/?

It’s an ad for an independent Aussie film about decadence amongst parents i guess. Called safari summer i think produced by Yowza, in case you want to look without clicking the link.

At this point, this concept seems to be being milked. What do others think? I do relate to being a generation jones, and definitely agree it was miles different from those born at the beginning of the boomer years. And i did have enormous freedom although my situation was unique. But definitely something was going on with many parents, considering the way we feral teens roamed the streets all weekend, pulling all nighters, and switching boyfriends and girlfriends.

What are the resources available if i take in my addict granddaughter

She’s 26 I think. Has been active for 10 years. So sad, she was my bestie her whole childhood. It may come to nothing, but she texted asking to stay on my couch. She’s been in and out of my daughter’s house in vt for a few years, when not there, she is with her 45 year old addict boyfriend. I don’t know why she is reaching out now. My daughter and i don’t get along that well so i can’t get accurate information from her.

I want to know what is possible for her if i took her in. I wish she had come a year or two sooner, she would still be a young adult for those types of programs but i think she has aged out of all that. But I may be wrong, she might still be 25? I’ll have to check, sorry, i guess that is important information.

The only way this could work if she agrees to be very active in recovery, and has safe spaces to go get out of my one bedroom apartment. Honestly, i worry she may just find more users here. I just don’t know what to do, and maybe she moved on from that idea already, that is how it usually goes.

Seeking advice on a physical therapist

I am at a loss where to search for a good PT. Most people have experience physical therapy. Many, like myself find it difficult to stick to the extremely boring, long trajectory of exercise before seeing much results. So, I’m hoping to find someone who is a bit more creative and flexible.

Recently, i got a small kettlebell, and it is an amazing device, I had no trouble sticking with the exercise. I asked ai, does the halo create more bdnf, and YUP, it does, the exercise recruits many small fiber muscles, and requires focus, and gives such immediate feedback it is highly motivating and enjoyable! But of course, it aggravated my injury, to the point im in more pain than before.

So, I’m trying to find a PT who can brainstorm exercises for me that will give me a similar result. Oh, and I have the dreaded Medicare for insurance. I might opt for surgery this winter if it’s the only way to restore range of motion.

TIA

Do you think something is really underfoot?

Rfk has mentioned her specifically as a person he and Cheryl became friends with. I can see him deftly playing both sides from his insider position. I hope she and Massie and a few others come together somehow, and if Kennedy could somehow endorse, but i can’t see him being able to go that far. I’m no longer satisfied with what he is accomplishing, and if something gets momentum, I’m torn about how much influence he could have by publicly endorsing a new movement, vs just keeping on grinding in his corner.

Extremely loud amplified buskers

Is there anything that can be done. They have relocated to right outside my building and i will become homicidal. I think permitsand sound limits sjhould be required now that cheap amplification is everywhere. Windows closed, it’s all i can hear. Deafening loud beats and yelling and clapping, and i know from where they were 3 blocks away, which i also could hear, that this will go on daily now, for hours. Omfg. FML

Separated bike lanes

Is there any resource to see ONLY the separated bike lanes in the city? I’m done risking my life after this latest episode. I will ride twice as long distance if i have to, but it doesn’t really seem possible to get to any area of the inner city on solely separate paths and or lanes that have curbs, or are raised, or at least painted and with flex posts, or with the parking on the left for protection. I think this resource should exist, where one can select which features they are comfortable riding in, and see only those routes? TIA

Survey on bike infrastructure

Saw this link for a survey.

We’re partnering with the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization to identify gaps in our region’s walking and biking infrastructure as a first step in developing a regional active transportation plan. The MPO needs your help to pinpoint these gaps and provide input on how they affect your daily life. The survey will be open until July 30, 2026, and the MPO expects to share a summary of the data collected later this year.

Help route planning please

Tomorrow I want to go to Ruth Gordon Ampitheater for a free concert. I want to take a leisurely ride over from downtown. Or I might take the red line part way. I hate going through seaport and south boston but i like riding along the beach. I have only once ridden the new connector, which i guess part is closed already and the bridge sucks. And I’d also have cross the bridge to Quincy. So I’m curious about those areas.

I’ve never crossed the neponset, except in mattapan. Once i do, if I decide to, it looks like a nice ride along Wollaston beach, but then to get to the ampitheater, from Quincy shore drive, I’m not sure what to do.

When it’s over, i plan to just ride the side streets to the commuter rail, depending on scheduling.

Thanks for any advice from people familiar with any portion of this ride.

Legal information sought

I learned today that the commercial tenants in my building all have wall mounted units or additional window units that actual create adequate cooling, unlike the HUD tenants my greedy corporate landlord prefers because they won’t complain.

Where can I call to ask if this is legal. I want someone to come in with an industrial thermometer and document what feels like possibly a 20 degree or at least 15 difference in the cooling they get. Everyone has all utilities included in this building. So it seems like we, or HUD, are subsidizing the business tenants. What else is new. Uncle Sam likes to help the poor, only if a corpo can benefit from administering the program somehow.

Anyway rant over, but I do want a definitive answer if this is legal and who to lodge a complaint with if it is not.

Local genealogy groups

Hi, now that the Scots have gone, I want to stop dragging my feet on my dream to do my family research. I’m 17 % Scottish, and revisited my dna results, and now it’s been updated, it’s all Highland and Hebrides! and an ancient bardic family.

It’s mostly been done by others, but I don’t speak to any of them, so I get to do it all myself haha! I know about the newbury st place, will probably join, never been yet.

But to get going, and maintain motivation, I think the first thing I want to do is find a local in person group that meets regularly. I have seen them mentioned here and there. Reddit seems to be a great place to collect lots of local information, so hoping many options will come up here. TIA

Scottish visitors

Well, our puritan knickers are showing. As a Scot descendant and enthusiast, I’ve been following the arrival of the kilts. Enthusiastically lol. Anyway, many families came here, expecting to bring their tweens and teens to pubs to watch games and are being kicked out at 9 pm and left to return to their hotel room to watch on tv.

Most have been at the last minute, told via email they are not selected for city hall fanfest either. they can’t understand why they aren’t allowed to buy a six pack and drink outside like every other modern European country either.

Welcome to boston. We look like a provincial overpriced tourist gouging city in many ways, sadly.

Waltham to Sudbury mass central trail

Is it possible to ride this entire section? I have not been on any of it. I was hoping to go from Waltham to concord off the commuter train. I have a hybrid e-bike and can go on unpaved as long as it’s not really rough. Thanks

Update. I had a stressful day. I know most people here are able bodied and younger. But I’m not and there’s increasing ebikers like me so I’m sharing my experience.

I will not ride this section again. Specifically Waltham to the Pelham island rd. The road was nice and the trail in Sudbury. The section done by ever source is boring and hopefully will improve but it’s fine eventually as a through route. I crossed 128 and saw I couldn’t safely cross traffic and had to go back and recross on the other side. Then I got a locked gate and had to go back again. It just was a lot of miserable parts for a pleasure ride. I loved the Sudbury section. Nice tree canopy. Lots of history and interpretive signs. Very nice.
