The Donner Party

So I grew up knowing from a pretty early age the story of the Donner Party (funny how my phone keeps trying to autocorrect Donner to "Dinner"). It was the subject of many jokes and was referenced any time a conversation approached the topic of cannibalism.

So imagine my surprise when I realized my kids had never learned the story. Then I recently found out my girlfriend, who was born in 81, hadn't ever heard of them. I have family out in Reno and a day trip out to Truckee, California takes you close to Donner Pass, so my mention of it didn't register with her on our recent trip and I was shocked. I had always thought it was just a very well-known story, even if all the facts are not fully known or understood.

Is the common awareness of the Donner Party limited to GenX and earlier? Is it unusual for people to really know about it? Just seems like a story that would kind of be timeless...a cautionary tale of the dangers early Americans faced in the days of westward expansion. It kind of makes me wonder what other similar stories are not taught to younger folks anymore.

Name a riff you just have never been able to watch for longer than a few minutes.

Yesterday's Target popped up as a featured riff in the app today and it occurred to me that I've never made it more than five or ten minutes before switching to something else. Some films are just so dull and uninteresting, no riffs can penetrate.

Uric acid down!

Last summer when I had my big flair, I was tested at 7.1. I have been on 300mg allo since then and yesterday I had my annual physical and he tested for uric acid...down to 3.5!

Allo is effective, folks...keep up with it.

Nobody I know remembers this show, but it was one of my favorites!

I remember every note from the theme music!
