Talgos on the Cascades during the Centennial Mills debacle

Hi folks, anyone know which trains, if any, are running the Talgo 8 set right now? Previous comments have said 517/518, but I'm sure the whole operation is out of whack right now. Thanks!

Amtrak Cascades 516 Question

Taking the train from Seattle to Vancouver BC next week. I've read that the left side of the train has the water views. I've never ridden the train north. Does it pull out of the station heading north or does it back out and turn around somehow? I'm just trying to figure out which will be the left side of the train.

Also are coach seats first come first sit? Last time I rode the Cascades to Portland (years ago) they assigned us a seat before we got on the train.

Thanks in advance.

Update: The Centennial Mills water tower in Portland is scheduled for demolition (dynamite!!) on Monday 17 Apr.

Arggh. 17 August -- this coming Monday!

Rather than post YT links, just hop over to /r/Portland and click on a few there.

The talking heads think that it will take a minimum of two weeks to knock enough of the rest of the building down, to open the tracks to passenger traffic. (Union Pacific is running freight through there unhindered, but they don't have passengers that might sue if a brick falls on their head.)

Amtrak Cascades - Airo Trainsets

I keep seeing post in various subs (and on youtube) that they have started testing the Airo trainsets for Amtrak Cascades in the PNW! Has there been any official date on when they are going to start using the Airo trainsets for revenue service. The only thing I can find is that they will start using Airo trainsets sometime in the Autumn.

would you pay for better WTA service?

There’s been a few posts over the last week or so about bus frequency, routes, and amenities (shelters/benches/real-time arrivals signs) so putting the question to the sub! I don’t work for WTA or have any power at all, just curious what folks think.

If given a choice, would you be open to paying more for better WTA bus service, either via higher fares (more than $2/ride) or an increase to the WTA sales tax rate (currently 0.6% countywide, same rate since 2002)?

Amtrak Cascades Capacity Issues - seeking advice what to do

My father got an alert from Amtrak that there is a capacity issue on the Amtrak Cascades train he is scheduled on (#518 this Thursday). He has been recommended to modify his reservation but is still showing that he has a reservation on this train.

Its worth noting not only is this peak Summer time and limited capacity in general due to the Amfleet fill-in equipment but it is right before a big World Cup game in Seattle the next day. Every other train is sold out (save for the Coast Starlight).

Curious if anyone knows what this means and advice to what I should recommend he do?

Thanks!

Southbound Cascades today is the first train that didn’t need US customs paperwork

Very easy boarding process at Vancouver this morning. Just had to show passport, no other paperwork required. I’m travelling on an Australian passport so I’m guessing US passports had it even easier.

Then we all got presented a commemorative “boarding pass” and free tote bag with an Amtrak writing pad and pen.

Just need the new trains now!!

What should I know about customs on Cascades?

Hey Reddit,

Me and a friend of mine are going to take the Cascades from Everett to Vancouver and we were wondering about y'alls experiences with border control considering the current situation between the USA and Canada.
