How to report public footpath ‘privatisation’?

Hi, I’ve found a path outside of Crowhurst near Hastings that the landowner has removed, and stuck up private signs. Where do I report this?

Edit: RE both my image and screenshot showing me standing beside the path and “on their land” a this was just me taking a picture of the GPS before I forgot, as I walking on the road away from where you should be able to access the ROW. I was standing in the road when I took both the picture and the screenshot, my GPS hadn’t loaded properly. There were signs up all around the little woodland, and the path was both inaccessible at the ROW entry points at the top and bottom as a result and very overgrown looking. At the other end of the path, I found a padlocked gate.

I realised what I like! Help me find games about Scouting :)

Hello, I just played Big Walk. Amazing game. But like many games, from old school Ghost Recon, to Arma, Elder Scrolls or even Big Walk - one of my favourite things is carefully exploring and building spatial awareness of a place, or watching for lethal threats - ie. Scouting! It could also be games where using a map is really important.

Does anyone else like these sorts of games, or games with this type of game play?

Can you recommend anything?

I mainly play on a Steam Deck, but they can run almost anything these days. Thanks!

Why do Postgrads and PhDs get reduced access during summer months?

I’m a postgrad at Brunel, and it’s frustrating that the university has such limited library access hours during the summer. I understand this access is standard during summer months in universities, but this is suboptimal.

We’re still paying our extortionate fees. Our summer fees aren’t any less than the rest of the year. Unlike the undergrads we’ve got work to do over the summer, so why is our access to study space restricted?

This isn’t a cost cutting measure as it appears to have been the case for decades. For those of us undertaking mature study, our homes are not conducive to a good study environment. So why is study space so restricted? Reduced opening hours (as little as 12-7 on weekends?), reduced opening days.

Edit: I’m in London so have decided to effectively give up on Brunel and get Sconul access for the central London libraries, which is what I did during my undergrad years ago as well. Brunel is stupidly far away and takes 2 hours to get to anyway.

Red light jumping and breathing

Hear me out. I know this is slightly odd.

I’ve been trying to work out why so many Limebikes and e-bikes jump reds. So much so, it’s more common to see e bikes jump a red than stop for one.

I have a theory.

Regular bikes require you to use your legs, sometimes you have to use effort. This requires breathing. Pretty much everyone, including the super fit, enjoys a breather. I cycle fast (and safe) but I always stop at reds regardless, but they’re also just a good interruption to catch your breath after wellying it.

E bikes not so much. No need to rest, no need for a breather. So they don’t have that pull factor or reinforcing factor to slow down or take a breather. As a result, most e bikes just jump the reds.

Anyway, that’s just my nutty theory I came up with whilst cycling about.

UK - Holding breath in pool banned

Hi, I’m a member of Better Swim in London. I was holding my breath underwater with both arms on the side of the pool, looking at my watch to check the time elapsed. I did this three or four times and a lifeguard came over to stop me, saying holding your breath underwater is disallowed because you might black out. I was surprised. I did that all the time as a kid in our regional pool. So, in the UK, are we banned from holding our breath underwater? Does that mean we’re not allowed to swim underwater too? Seems a bit OTT

Edit: Okay okay, I get it. It’s apparently not safe. We did it all the time when I was a kid and nobody gave any notice. But yes, I won’t do it anymore. As to why I was doing it: a) it’s fun and b) I was obviously seeing how long I could hold it for

Currently titrating - taking a break from Elvanse

I was on a waiting list for 4 yrs for NHS assessment, something happened and I got removed from the list. In exasperation I signed up to ADHD Direct and paid for my assessment, and I was diagnosed inattentive back in Feb.

Since then I've been titrating on Elvanse. I had the "limitless" feeling in the first few days on 30mg, but remember it dropping off in the evenings. I wanted more of the energetic feeling so they increased by dose to 50, and then 70, then I had some shitty mouth/teeth related side effects, so I diluted my remaining pills to 40mg and then have been titrating on 40 now for about 6 weeks.

My life is fine, my work is successful. I procrastinate a lot without meds and my prioritisation is all over the bloody place without meds.

With meds, honestly, I can't say it's really improved, except that I'm a bit "happier". The meds have contributed to me "not being myself" which foreclosed a potential dating relationship before it began. I've also struggled with the high feeling during work meetings, I really really hate it - not the feeling itself, just knowing that I'm not myself and am a way more highly strung version of myself.

My procrastination is just as bad, or maybe even worse.

I don't really understand, I can't be dopamine seeking as I do a strenuous workout every single morning as a sort of "self medication".

I've decided to take a few days or a week's break from Elvanse to sort of remember what life was like before Elvanse. What it felt like not to have this strange slightly "high feeling" most of the time. Like, I really don't enjoy not being myself, not reacting in my authentic ways.

I'm also really not keen on the mouthy/teethy sensitivity thing. That weird ADHD mouth thing. I've been getting it ever since I was on the 70mg and had that weird episode for a day, which was ****ing horrible.

The main reason I felt I wanted the meds was to sort out my procrastination and prioritisation in relation to work. But that hasn't happened at all. It's just much easier to drop into hyperfocus on certain tasks, like writing this Reddit essay (and I didn't even take it today! I'm in some sort of post-Elvanse come down and it's still very obviously in my blood stream) or going to the loo and finding that you can barely stand up because you sat there for 30 mins reading Reddit - or sitting down to do a task for 30 mins, and then spending the entire day on it without getting up to eat - like, what?!

Maybe stims just aren't for me.

Dangerous absence of road markings

Hi all - at the junction of Andrews Road and Mare Street in Hackney - just 5-10 metres north of the canal bridge, the road markings have practically entirely been rubbed off, meaning I go into the middle road box to turn off, and I’ve got cars heading straight into me resulting in close passes and games of chicken, repeatedly in the recent weeks (being generous to them, because they can’t see the road markings which are very very faint)

Who do I report this to? Before someone becomes a road casualty or “accident” as we euphemistically call these preventable incidents.

Cosplay help for dressing up for civil partnership!

Hello!

My Dad is getting civil partnershipped with his partner this winter, and they are massive trekkies (as am I) and they are making an optional dress code of Star Trek uniforms. Which is awesome!

Can you help our family and suggest any great UK or European Star Trek cosplay suppliers?

My dad’s partner, a female (said in Nog’a voice), wants a slightly more tailored outfit, and we would all prefer something a not “fancy dress” but a step up - more like a bit more serious cosplay. I think it’s mostly all of us wearing Starfleet uniforms.

Thanks so much!

Jumping roundabouts?

I’ve nearly been hit twice in one month just from cars thinking they can pull out ahead of me while going around a roundabout (never mind all of the other near misses).

I barely had this before, but now twice in a short period of time? The first one, some kid, stopped and was clearly sort of stressed that he’d almost knocked me off. The second woman shouted sorry and drove off without barely stopping.

Genuinely don’t remember drivers jumping roundabouts before. I wasn’t even going that fast - I was leisurely riding my flatmates upright women’s dutch style bike (for reasons).

Hi I’ve been titrating for a few months now, Elvanse 30mg, then 50mg with barely any side effects but slight dry mouth when talking a lot. Then they suggested I try 70mg which was fine for the first couple of days, though I felt significantly more “up”/stimulated, but I thought this is just the first few days on a higher dose, it’ll wear off.

Then I had an important Masters Degree assignment (it’s game design so we get the assignment a week before and have to produce a game in a week) due yesterday. I worked late most of this week and slept 5 hours (instead of 7) on Tuesday, then 4 hours instead of 7 on Wednesday. I was also stressed about the assignment. I’m in my my mid 30s so that is nowhere near enough sleep for me these days.

Yesterday on the train to my university I noticed I felt like my gums were bleeding, and that my teeth hurt.. before I took my medication. Which was confusing. I assumed it was because of sheer lack of sleep and stress. But I took my dose anyway.

I spent all day chewing gum, because as soon as I stopped my mouth hurt, and I had partial involuntary jaw snapping whilst chewing which bit my cheek badly three times. When I ate food my mouth felt dry and awkward. I was obviously extremely tired anyway and the pills masked this, but I needed to do my performing monkey routine and run the game, which I did successfully. But after this on the train home I have rarely felt so uncomfortable- my teeth hurt, I was overthinking, my jaws ached from chewing. I got home made food and ate ice cream, as that felt safe then slept a good 8 hours.

And now today, not wanting to risk a repeat of that horror I am drinking a half pint of water every 15 mins, took a leftover 50mg pill (not 70), but my mouth is watering and I feel like I might be involuntarily sort of sucking on my tongue, but that might be normal, I don’t know - as I’m overthinking. I went to the pharmacy this morning for some mouth wax, but they didn’t have any. Anyway, I'm going to wear my gumshield thing I normally wear for grinding my teeth all day whilst I work..

Is this Elvanse or something else? This is fucking awful.
