Cleaning out flooded basement by

Yesterday my parent’s basement flooded with about 3 feet of water. They are on high ground and there’s storm drain in the back yard so normally it’s ok. Sometimes during heavy rain a small “river” forms on the backyard but the water kept rising. It eventually got to the window wells and just poured in. This never happened before.

Im going to see them today and assess the damage in person. Fortunately everyone is OK and this is just stuff but I’m totally at a loss about what to do or even where to begin.

Like many people the basement is a a storage area. My parent’s life was down there. A lot of my life was down there.

There was an oven and second refrigerator and chest freezer, both were floating on their side, door open spilling contents everywhere. Books, photos, Christmas tree and holiday decorations. Shelves were knocked over and stuff was just floating around.

Can anything be salvaged? How do you do it?

Do you get a giant dumpster and just throw everything away?

Those store your bike outside, how are you doing today?

Pretty wild weather last night. Saw pictures of trees blown over, fallen branches, etc.

If you store your bike outside, is it OK?

D3O Diablo vs Klim Rogue

Looking to replace the armor in my Pando Moto Commando with something a little lighter and more flexible, breathable, but still level 2.

I’m considering Diablo armor, which I put in a pair of jeans and like a lot. However Klim makes good stuff but I haven’t seen it in person yet.

One slight edge for the Klim is they do both T+/- ratings where I don’t think Diablo is tested for heat/cold.

Thoughts?

It’s the Sears Tower

I was watching the replay of Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue and in the clip of President Trump discussing the reflecting pond vs tall buildings he called it the Sears Tower.

It might not be much, but there’s at least one thing the President and I agree on.

How do you keep your rims clean?

It’s been quite a while since I washed my bike, a blue 2024 Yamaha MT-07. It’s garage kept so free from the elements but I didn’t realize how dirty some places got, especially the rims.

How do keep your bike clean? I used a rim brush for a car but it might be worth investing in something smaller to get in the nooks and crannies of the rims and suspension.

County Farm Bagels

Fantastic weather so out on a Sunday ride. Grabbed a bit for breakfast at County Farm Bagels.

Got the bacon egg and cheese on a garlic bagel (you can choose your bagel). About $8 and change.

I walked in and there were 2 customers in front of me. Then I turned around and the line was practically out the door.

I’ve driven place all the time but never stoped. It’s amazing how many awesome restaurants are tucked away in small, nondescript corner strip malls.

Probe end got a bit discolored.

Any ideas how to best clean it?

Favorite breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito, quick-ish bite?

The weather is picking up and it’s time to take the motorcycle out and explore the area. It’s fun to ride to a new area.

Since I’m riding in the morning breakfast sandwiches are perfect. I also love breakfast burritos and tacos but they seem harder to find.

Sit down restaurants with a full leisurely breakfast are nice and all, but I can’t eat all that food or take leftovers. They also usually take longer.

I don’t care the location. The goal is to get out and explore.

It doesn’t have to have a 5-star rating, just one that you like. It could even be a chain. I quite like Einstein Bagels and they have a few locations spread around the area.

Thanks in advance!

USB on the bike or a battery in the pocket / tail bag?

I have a few accessories I ride with that need power:

- Cardo

- Beeline Moto 2

- Cell phone

I normally keep my phone in my pocket and use either the Beeline mounted on the dash or audio directions on the Cardo. I don’t keep the phone mounted on the bike, if I did I’d go USB.

While I try to keep the devices charged up sometimes I forget or they just wear down on a longer ride. Especially the Cardo which I forget to turn off (I’d swap the PackTalk Edge for the Pro if I could).

Advantage of power on the bike is unlimited power, I don’t have to carry the battery or keep it charged. Advantage of battery is that I can charge devices when I’m off the bike at a restaurant, etc.

I’m not sure if there’s any advantage/ disadvantage to cord placement.

Talk me out of a Klim Induction

I was at the dealership yesterday and they had a light gray Klim Induction on sale.

It’s a really nice jacket. I’m tempted to pull the trigger with summer is coming up.

However I have a Klim Marrakesh (which is how I know the Induction has great quality) and also a Pando Moto commando. As much as I love the Induction it feels a bit redundant.

But… I’m willing to be convinced it has a spot in my wardrobe. :)

Edit: forgot to mention to mention, my Marrakesh is light gray. The Pando is black.

Crashing a bike on a test ride

I’m helping a friend buy a bike went to the dealership yesterday to look at some models. I got there early and it turned out they had a demo day.

So, with time to kill I handed the organizer my license to make a copy and signed the waiver. He joked “you can read all that if you want but if basically says you remove us from all liability and if you break it you bought it.”

I hop on my Triumph Speed 400 and off we go, about 10-12 people, riding in staggered formation.

We come to a part with a few gentle sweeping turns, a frontage road by some expressway exits, maybe doing about 30mph, and the guy in front of me goes wide in the turn and runs downward into a gentle grassy ditch.

We are at the back of the pack so I stop and a few others to check on him and make sure he’s OK (he was, thank God). The group rode on, unaware of what happened behind them.

There’s some minor damage to the bike — cracked fairings, a broken turn signal and a broken shift lever. Overall, not so bad, it was in some soft grass (spring is here and the grass is lush), but the shop had to come with a trailer because of the shifter.

I asked the shop what happens next but they couldn’t give a definite answer, they need to inspect the bike. Perhaps the guy will file a claim on his insurance or maybe pay for the damages, the bike isn’t totaled. The dealer said they try to be nice about it.

Anyone seen or experienced this and have any idea more insight about what happens next? I thought this might be a rare occurrence but maybe it’s not.
