Understanding time management and deep calculations in classical chess

Hey, I am going to play my first classical chess tournament ever in 10 days. I am 1900 rated on rapid on chess.com and I have played rapid OTB tournaments before. But now I will play an actual classical tournament (90+30).

I am too used of playing rapid chess and cannot really see myself calculating a move for 20 minutes or more. Today I played some 30+20 on lichess and it already felt slightly too long. Every time I calculated several variations and really tried to spend my time, I had only calculated for 5-10 minutes max. I really feel that, when I think for long, I lose my train of thought and spiral remembering the moves and variations I had calculated.

What am I missing? How should I think while playing classical chess? Thank you

Self-learning a closely related language to your native language

Hello. I will move to Italy in September and I am already trying to learn the language. Went there for the first time last week, and I could understand the vast majority to what was being said to me, and I even improvised well in dialogues in appartment viewings.

Since my native language is closely related to Italian, I find it hard to find useful learning materials, since they all feel too basic for me. I've been watching Italian series with Italian subs, and bought a book in Italian. Has anyone experienced a similar experience to me (maybe with another language, doesnt have to be Spanish vs Italian), and if yes, what would you recommend to do? What are useful resources for learning a language based on a very similar language? How do I avoid confusing the vocabularies of both languages? Thank you in advance

What's the idea behind this theoretical exchange sacrifice in the Queens Gambit Accepted? I'm finding it difficult what's the compensation behind it.

Hey. I was looking at lines for the Queens Gambit Accepted and I came across this variation. It has been played 98 times, and players like Hikaru and Andreikin have played it. Its this:

  1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e4 b5 4. a4 c6 5. axb5 cxb5 6. Nc3 a6 7. Nxb5 axb5 8. Rxa8

Does any of you regularly play this line? What are the ideas behind it?

How did you improve your winrate as black? Am I doing something wrong?

Hey, I've been wondering about how to improve as black: My winrate from the last 90 days for white is 55%-40% (which I am quite happy about), but for black its 45%-49%.

I guess that this could be due to opening choices; but I feel like I have an okay repertoire as black. vs italian I play the 2 knights, vs ruy lopez I play the modern steinitz, against d4 I switched recently from the Dutch because I felt I couldn't play it accurately and now I go for the Albin or Budapest gambit (still can't really decide).

Apparently I lose more games vs e4 than d4.

My question is; If you've had the same issue as me, what was your solution?

Free water heater at FPN/Randwyck Library?

Hey, i was wondering if there is a water heater around here. At FASOS there are some small kitchens that have a water heater; theres also one at the Tapijn Learning Spaces.

I was wondering if theres something similar here, i am not too familiar with this faculty. Thanks

i cant with this game anymore

help. i am losing game after game for two weeks now, I was 1960 and now i am below 1800. I forgot how to play chess. Just blundered a queen on move 8, i feel so stupid and angry i want to hurt myself. I really cant with this, what happened in order to be such a bad chess player from one day to another. I feel worthless and stupid when i play the game now, I am kind of considering quitting this game because of anger management issues. Maybe this is not the place to rant about this, but really really i feel so worthless, stupid, dumb when I play.
