New to Monsters & Memories? Here’s a Beginner Guide to Help You Get Started

With more people discovering Monsters & Memories, I wanted to put together something that could help new players get through those first few hours without feeling completely lost. If it wasn't for other community members guiding me (shoutout Evildragon, Legs and Healium just to name a few) it would have been a completely different experience. Community and help is king.

So.....I decided to start curating a beginner guide series....in fact....I've uploaded the very first M&M New Player Guide this afternoon. No ridiculously long videos, my goal is to keep them short and sweet 10 minutes, or 5 minutes or less to teach but not giveaway the game.

Our first video gives a brief overview of the basics:

  • What kind of MMO Monsters & Memories actually is
  • Server distinction between PvE/PvP
  • Character creation, races & classes
  • Leveling and grouping
  • Dying in game
  • Some of the BIG differences from modern MMOs

Beginner Guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mq9KbTbB3M

The plan is to keep building these into a series that new players can reference as they get into the game, so I'd love to hear from the veteran M&M players here:

What do you think every new player should know?

Here's what I'll be working on next to add to the new player guide; starting areas, class breakdowns, class specific starting quests, crafting/professions, grouping, and what happens when you die in game.

If I'm missing or overlooking anything, please throw it in the comments too. The more information we can get in one place for new players, the better.

Hopefully this helps a few people survive their first adventures, maybe it wont, but darn it, I'm going to try to keep it simple.

PvE but what about PvP?

I’m a long time enjoyer of PvP in MMO’s I know…I’m special. All that to say I love the constant community feedback on all the PvE aspects because let’s be honest…that’s the real game. But I digress.

I’m reading through the forums I noticed there seems to be a considerable smaller contingent of PvP player and it shows on the beta opt in…345 people…

Numbers don’t concern me. The game is still in its infancy stage, so many things can happen.

here comes the but…..I feel like the beta window is missing some additional bodies and PvP testing so more feedback can be obtained. I’d love to test and provide that feedback to help anyway I can.

All that to say, I of course don’t have access (I know I know, I’ve opted in and am in the discord) but boy I’d really love the next batch of friend links to access to beta to be geared to some PvP players….shamelessly I’d love to start playing before early access.

So, to the PvPers out there, how are things? Enough bodies to test, enough class exposure when fighting in the open world?

Cheers all, so exited for this game and your two cents! Light me up! Love you all.

EDIT:

WoW!!! I was lucky and received a PvP key to join in on the fun! I cannot wait to dive in, test, report bugs and try to help shape and provide feedback for the community. I hope all of you out there wanting to play get your opportunity too!! Love you all and this community.

One last note, if there’s anyone out there that wants to see what the PvP server is like or doesn’t have access yet and wants to see first hand what it’s like from the start, decided I’ll stream all my activity, bug reporting, PvP ideas, fails, losses, etc. ill be streaming on twitch at the handle “QuivoTV”

The Last Tribe

EDIT/UPDATE 6.21.26:
First and foremost, happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. But...wow.....this community kicks butt. It's barely been 24 hours and we currently have 109 members with 29 online....and yes.....a few deaths too too soon.

But no big deal over here, we'll keep plugging away...eveyone in the guild is leveling. Heck, I'm only level 7 but I've traveled to Deathknell, Brill, Razor hill, Senjin'Village, Org, UC....and maybe to the cow land soon. So, you're all welcome, but will you be a part of the Tribe? Here's to sharing what incredible things we do next. Cheers, Hexangel.

P.S.P.S - I'm working super hard to make a killer discord, tips welcome <3

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So.....I'm a lurker on the HC page, I admit it. I've got a few Alliance characters on Doomhowl (Paladin 34, Warrior, 28, Rogue 24). Haven't died in hardcore but never really got into like I have now for a multitude of reasons (season of life I was in, kids, travel, time to dedicate, whatever...). But that's not why I'm posting......

For the greater part of my WoW career (not paid or sponsored) i've played Alliance. Now, It's time to give the dark side some love. So, I logged on Doomhowl horde, scoured the reddit posts and saw the same answers over and over when the notorious questions are asked: "is HC still alive?" or "Hordes dead on Doomhowl" or lets be honest, Alliance usually just has more people online and players at peak, and that's okay, but both can be active. So...why does this even matter...this isn't new news!

But what I'm about to drop is! Tonight...I created a new hardcore character on horde and scraped up just enough cash to start a guild. "The Last Tribe"

No grand promises. No established raid team. No level 60 officers. Not created by a group of people. No giant discord....yet. Just a level 1 Troll Priest named "Hexangel" (edit now lvl 2) with a guild charter and an idea.

If you're rolling fresh, coming back after a death, rerolling from Alliance like me, looking for people to level with you, or just want to play at your own place, you've got a home at the "The Last Tribe".

The goal isn't to just collect as many people as we can, it to build a home, something that will stand, a real tribe. Made up of dungeon runners, serial questers, crafters, self found addicts, hardcore veterans, first-timers, parents, night owls, and everyone in between. Maybe...we'll have enough 60's to raid one day and elect officers!

We're not self found focused, but self-found players are welcome....EVERYONE IS!

If you've been waiting for a reason to give Hardcore a try, or want to help pump the pop up on Doomhowl Horde...whisper me in game or drop me a message here. I'll be setting up the discord in the next few days...but know most of us will be busy with Father's day tomorrow.

Cheers All! - You're Hardcore friend, Hexangel. (Doomhowl, Horde).

1st Tank Ever

So…been watching MDfishtanks for months…finally built up the courage to start my own 10 gallon tank. Spent countless days and hours researching methods, substrates, proper stocking, plant types, proper care, tank options and let’s just say….as a newbie…there’s a lot of information out there. But that’s a good thing! I find the hobby therapeutic and just downright fun. Sharing a few photos of my jungle tank to help encourage others starting new!

For beginners or those struggling, please, please take a minute to research your problems. I can’t stress enough the importance of an API Master Freshwater Testing Kit. Many times little water changes and daily testing will save you from ever having to use chemicals. Once you start doing that you’re just messing your water and ecosystem up.

I hope this encourages others who are starting like me because you can do it too. Be patient, test frequently (every day or every other) and watch your fish and you’ll start to get a feel on how to manage your setup. More plants help!

Any questions, tips to what I can do better, are all welcome! Cheers! Looking forward to growing in this hobby and helping others! Working on a 2nd and 3rd tank now, the addiction kicked in!
