How do I make my own rose gold?

I need to make a tiny bit of Everose gold for microwelding to Rolexes.

The recipe is 1g Au, 0.3g Cu and 0.02g Pt

I snipped 0.3g of copper from a speaker cable. Put it in a ceramic melting dish with borax. But couldn’t for the life of me get it to melt the way I effortlessly can gold or silver. The copper sort of fused a little to each other but wouldn’t collapse to form a molten bead. Even when the dish was glowing red.

Is there a particular way to incorporate copper into a gold alloy?

I’m very familiar with melting gold and silver. First time handling copper

XRF results of my home-refined gold

I recently refined quite a lot of gold jewellery. Lots of 22k, and three gold-platinum 18k rings. The result is a 44.8g button.

Used heated aqua regia, urea, SMB, HCl rinse, three distilled water rinses. Decanting throughout.

I’m so surprised by the 9999 purity I got out of this humble process.

EPF could wipe out many

Most of the employed have either a very big or a majority portion of their wealth in the EPF.

The EPF has by law some 75% of its many billions in domestic fixed income securities. In other words, Malaysian government bonds. So actually, your retirement money has been loaned to the government.

It also means it will never be anything other than in ringgit.

The monies in EPF is vulnerable to everything that a currency is vulnerable to and MORE.

In particular it is vulnerable to hyperinflation. Just in recent years, various currencies have undergone hyperinflation. The Syrian pound has lost 98% of its value since 2011. In the last five years, the Turkish lira hyperinflated 578%. Lebanon had 171% inflation in one year alone.

With the EPF, the government doesn’t even need capital controls. You and your employer are forced by law to pay into it but you cannot withdraw it at will.

The government can change the law around EPF withdrawals at any time. They can change the age at which you can withdraw. They can change the rate at which you can withdraw.

It is captive money. If the Malaysian ringgit breaks, you can do nothing to save your EPF money. You cannot change it into other currencies. You cannot change it into gold or crypto. You just watch it die.

Sugar cravings mean (residual) insulin resistance

I’ve been keto, then increasingly more carnivore for the past three years. I’ve observed all kinds of things in myself on this journey.

In recent months I thought that maybe I’ve been too dogmatic about carnivore. It’s ok to have some carbs. I mean, 90% of what I eat is still meat. It’s ok to indulge a little.

I like dark chocolate for the indulgence part. And salty potato chips. I normally have them late at night, when my self discipline is eroded. I would be plagued by sugar cravings. I would give in and buy them at 7-11 and stuff them into my mouth the moment I got to the car.

Last week, I was inspired to do a 36hr fast. After the fast, I realised that I have lost my sugar cravings. I can look at a chocolate bar and be entirely indifferent to it.

My theory is that the 36hr fast erased some insulin resistance that had crept up. Now that I can produce ketones very efficiently again, my brain no longer needs the sugar to power itself. So it no longer craves sugar.

Sugar cravings could mean a brain that is undersupplied with energy. Restoring insulin sensitivity fixes this.

45M for F

The problem with being 45 is you’ve met and dealt with so many humans. You’ve also lived with yourself. For 45 years. Thus recognizing that humans are far from ideal.

I run a few tiny businesses for a living. All of them are/were hobbies which I commercialized.

Pretty broke for my age group. It’s something I’m actively figuring out.

I’m supposed to be pretty smart (IQ>130 on most tests) but I’ve found that I’m smart around some areas but profoundly dumb around others.

Was born Asperger but having realised this in my thirties, after much self observation, I now come across as normal. All the benefits of being Asperger remain (tremendous intensity in areas of interest, pronounced verbal ability, high cognitive ability, etc.) under a normal exterior.

Ridiculously fit. It took me forever to figure out how to be healthy.

I’m a pretty happy and almost totally self-sufficient person. Not sure what kind of crazy I’m looking for here.

PM me.

Could this be true? Why isn’t it taught in kindergarten the way they teach you to look left and right before crossing a road?

995.0 Gold

Apparently an old Turkish standard of fineness. Bought these two today. Nobody else buying them because of the odd purity.

The optimum alloy of gold for me

Is a 99.5% gold, 0.3% antimony and 0.2% cobalt alloy. As published in the paper “The Development of a Novel Gold Alloy with 995 Fineness and Increased Hardness”.

Once work hardened and aged, it has a hardness similar to 22k gold.

It can be made in any workshop without exotic equipment.

Anybody has experience with this alloy?

Jade + 22k gold

From tens of thousands of years ago, nephrite river pebbles were collected by humans. Around 8000 years ago, they started carving them. Then gold started being used, about 5000 years ago. A few hundred years ago, a very particular type of jadeite was discovered in a deposit in Burma. Its intense green colour displaced the less extroverted nephrite as personal adornment.

The real colour of 916 gold

I made this wire bangle out of scrap 916 gold. 35g. The alloying metal used around here is only copper, which results in a coppery look. To give it that saturated yellow colour, commercial jewellery is depletion gilded.

I’m not done with this bangle. I ran out of oxygen for my torch, so while waiting for new canisters to arrive, decided to just wear this to collect insights and impressions of how such a thing wears and looks.

I might burnish this with a piece of agate to see how I like the shiny look. Currently it looks dull and low key and more like brass than gold, which is a look in itself.
