What to wear to an interview?

I have an in person interview for a production supervisor position next week. I’m a bit older, and was taught that you should always wear a suit and tie to an interview (literally did when I interviewed at a Blockbuster Video store when I was in high school and the store manager said it’s part of why he hired me).

Should I wear a full suit and tie? Should I ditch the tie and just wear a suit and nice shirt? Suit and a polo? Polo and khakis?

Forever pet

On a dreary, Tuesday, you awake to a thunderclap, only to see the ghost of Charles Darwin looming over you. In the most ethereal voice, you’ve ever heard, Darwin offers you a pet. No matter what you do, for the rest of your life, this will be your only pet. It will be of above average intelligence for the species, but still just an animal, albeit one with an unnaturally long life. What animal do you choose, and why?

S3:E2 Rainbow Bridge casualty count

After their marathon session in the OR, when Hawkeye, Trapper, Frank and Hotlips are sitting in the mess tent, Trapper says that in 36 hours, they had 473 casualties (he meant cases). He lists them…

18 laparotomies
21 busted femurs
16 bowel resections

Then Margret cuts him off.

They have 4 surgeons. That’s an average of just over 13 cases an hour, less than 5 minutes each case.

A simple laparotomy along would take between an hour and 2. Bowel resections can take up to 4.

Is this an example of the writers exaggerating / just throwing numbers out there? Or do we really think the 4077 was that good?

Ranks

One thing I’ve never understood is why Hawkeye, Trapper and BJ were captains and Frank was a major. I understand Charles being a major because of specialities and additional experience.

Any insights?

Taking the Lord’s name in vain…

Ok, so this isn’t a post about the ramifications or sins or anything. This is a language(?) post.

Obviously, saying things like ‘G** damnit**’ and ‘Jesus f*****ing Christ’ are examples of taking the Lord’s name in vain.

But what about things like ‘God bless it’ in response to something occurring when you’d normally say ‘G** damnit’?

Extending it further, what about things like ‘Oh Hell’?

What are some other ways the Lord’s name can be taken in vain (strictly for literary analysis purposes)?

A bit of reasoning: I’m doing some curriculum development for an ESL class. One of the instructors mentioned needing materials on how to teach students how to, and how not to, swear.

Convince me one way or the other…

The stars are aligning in an odd way and I need some input. There’s a guy locally with a built N54 for sale, with a built transmission, écu, and wiring harness. Another guy locally has a 4 door e30 for sale with a garbage motor and dirty af interior.

I’ve restored plenty of cars in my day, and even more motorcycles, so if there’s something I don’t know off hand, figuring it out won’t be too hard. I also have a garage full of tools.

So…do I hop on this?

Upgrading from cm4 to cm5…

I’m fairly certain I know the answer, but I want to get confirmation.

If I buy a cm4 uConsole, and then later acquire a cm5, do I need to change any other hardware? Or is it just plug, reflash/reprogram, and go?

Anybody run Windows 11?

Just curious. I was talking to a former colleague about the uConsole, and he loves the idea of using it in the classroom, but the district has a policy against ‘custom operating systems’ due to some archaic incident involving a student ‘hacking’ their Chromebook to use Linux.

I know it’s possible to run W11 on a raspberry pi, but have never seen it done in person…

Just getting into programming…what should I get?

I’m just getting into programming. Been building my own pcs for years, but never really got beyond loading Ubuntu and other Linux distros. My sister showed me a friend of hers’ uConsole and I thought it would be a good jumping off point.

What all should I get and where should I order from? I’m in Canada, but near enough to the border to have things shipped to the US if need be.

My end goal is really just learning. Eventually, it would be cool to play some retro games (even Pokemon Go if that’s an option), and to write and stream with.

Thanks!

Is Rocky ‘tough?’

Rewatching the movie since it’s now free on Prime. The scene where they first come face to face, and Grace grabs his wrench from fear. Rocky kind of jumps back and raises one of his arms. It made me wonder, is Rocky tough? Like would he win in a fight against Grace (assuming they could both survive in the same environment)?

Bad Catholic joke time: Who is the patron saint of emailing multiple people at once?

Saint Francis of CC.

I genuinely apologize, but I saw this on IG earlier and have been giggling ever since.
