Fixing up my high school yeti. Need advice on drivetrain.
Hi,
I've got my old yeti cross country hardtail from high school that I want to put back on the road as a gravel cruiser, cross country, light mountain bike with the family.
The chain is skipping which I'm assuming is a good indication that my drive train needs some replacement. Its never been replaced as long as I've owned the bike (that I remember).
Right now its a 3x7, and I wanted to get some recommendations/advice on what I should replace.
From what I can tell is:
Option 1, replace with a new 3x7 system
Option 2, replace with a 1x9, 1x10, 1,x11, 1x12 system.
Once I figure that out, then I need to get parts.
My initial thought is to keep it simple and stick with the 3x7,
If I go that route, what I think I need(Prices in CAD):
- Front chain rings I think its a black spire, which is now defunked (it is bolted so maybe I can replace the old rings, although I'm guessing its not worth it.) and crankset. - replace
- FC-M361 $80
- or FC-M311 $50
- Front derailleur looks pretty beat up - replace
- Shimano FD-M310 $25
- Chain - replace -
- Shimano CN-HG71? $40
- Cassette - replace -
- Shimano CS-HG200-7 (12-32T) $30 CAD
- New cables - replace
- I think the rear derailleur is newish - reuse
- Thumb shifters are still ok as far as I know - reuse
Total cost - $175
These part picks are basically me chat GTPing and googling, I'm totally open to suggestions.
$175 bucks seems very reasonable to me, so if there are suggestions on slightly more $ options I'm open.
Thanks
