Custom mouth guards for CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting?

Asking because old threads on this topic are 2-5 years old.

My corporate insurance covers mouth guards, and my dentist makes the custom molded kind made from a casting of your teeth and mouth that cost almost $500 (not your cheap store guard). Aside from the thin ones people wear when sleeping to protect against tooth grinding, dentists can make guards for sports. There are thinner guards for accidental impact for normal sports like basketball and thicker ones for real contact sports like rugby and kickboxing. Dentists also have fun with them, and they can order bright colors for kids or camo or multi-color.

Does anyone use these for CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting? (And if you do, what color and design?)

My understanding is these would be helpful for two cases.

First, if you're doing real powerlifting, you may grit your teeth and grind a lot. Especially for people who've chipped or ground teeth or already had an implant, this is cheap insurance.

Second, accidents can happen especially with overhead barbell or dumbbell movements. Or a bad fall during gymastics. Same thing, if the guard is not uncomfortable, it's cheap insurance if you've reached serious weight or intensity.

No one in my box uses them or has even mentioned them, so I'm curious if anyone uses these, especially on your employer's dime.

Told a guy sitting at a machine for 30 minutes I wanted to use it

A guy was sitting at the lat pull machine for 30 minutes playing with his phone, during peak hour when the gym was full.

I did my other sets, then went to the lat pull machine and said I wanted to use it.

He asked if I wanted to share.

I told him he had been sitting there with his phone for 30 minutes wtf.

He said he had to finish one more set.

He began doing lat pulls while I stared at him.

Then he left.

It can be done.

(Now you're all going to say this is AI fanfic.)

LSKD shorts (male) tighter in pelvis, too low rise?

I tried buying LSKD Performance shorts in the last sale. For a heavier or fatter male, they don't feel as good as other technical shorts, or even normal Adidas Own The Run training shorts.

The material and construction are very good, but I don't like the cut. It feels tighter around the pelvis, and it's too low rise that the distance between waistband and crotch is too short even for a shorter Asian male. It feels made for a slimmer male, even if the quality is good.

Anyone have similar experience?

Low-fat Greek yogurt in SG — anyone else find Farmer’s Union High Protein weirdly bitter?

I usually buy plain low-fat/high-protein Greek yogurt for breakfast, default used to be the 450g Chobani Light Vanilla from Cold Storage.

The problem is Chobani Light or Fit seems to be available only in single-serve cups, and it’s often out of stock. Stock seems worse in SG than other South East Asia countries, it's weird.

Recently I tried Farmer’s Union Greek Style High Protein as a substitute from Fairprice. But the taste was quite off to me. Not just the usual sour Greek yogurt taste — it had a bitter edge and a strange aftertaste, almost like a protein-powder aftertaste.

I don’t think it’s just me disliking plain Greek yogurt, because I find normal Farmer’s Union Greek Style Light perfectly fine. It’s specifically the High Protein version that tasted strange.

Has anyone else in SG tried the Farmer’s Union High Protein version and noticed this? Is this a common issue with the product, or did I maybe get a bad tub?

Also, what are people here using for low-fat / no-added-sugar Greek yogurt specifically? Not looking for sweetened yogurt, dessert yogurt, or full-fat options — just something suitable as a regular breakfast base with decent protein and low sugar.

Adsan Law / American Express: Oral only, no written breakdown for payment being collected?

Asking this credit card related question here because I wasn't sure which other sub might have people who encountered this situation.

Anyone here dealt with Adsan Law acting for American Express Singapore before?

I had a small missed payment on an Amex card, and the card was eventually cancelled. There was a small amount outstanding, to be clear.

I was later e-mailed by Adsan. The amount they gave was higher than the actual spending shown in the statement, probably because of annual fee / late charges / adjustments. So I asked them for a written breakdown.

The person who called me said they can only explain the breakdown verbally, and asked me if I had a pen and paper.

I was quite surprised. If you are asking someone to pay, shouldn’t the breakdown be sent in writing?

They said they are following their rules and asked me to call American Express directly if I wanted more details.

I’m not trying to siam payment. I just want to know if anyone else has encountered this, and whether this is actually normal in Singapore.

Best premium oversized weightlifting shirts for Singapore?

What are the best premium oversized weightlifting shirts for Singapore?

I understand this is a strange category because most lifters will wear some random old shirt or normal training shirt, but I actually can't find anything in this category.

If I look for a cotton shirt for training, there's LSKD or more typical Adidas, UA, etc. cotton shirts.

If I look for an oversized cotton shirt, especially 95% cotton / 5% elastane, you have LSKD and you have Gymshark for mid-tier quality. There's also a local indie gym brand Ferrous Mettle, $45.90 per shirt.

If I look for technical fabric, you have Ryderwear soft tech oversized. For premium technical fabric, you have brands like Ten Thousand, but the cuts are more athletic or slim/tapered not boxy or oversized. Same with the training shirts for Adidas, UA, etc.

I hate the feel of cheaper Decathlon and Taobao shirts and want to upgrade. (No, not SAF gear.)

So are there more premium weightlifting and training shirts, especially the oversized kind? Or did I already list all the good options?

Does anyone else think Chobani Fit Greek Yoghurt tastes like s**t, and is looking for 450g Chobani Light tubs?

Does anyone else think Chobani Fit Greek Yoghurt tastes like s**t?

For the longest time, my go-to greek yoghurt was half a 450g tub of vanilla flavor Chobani Light. Add some berries and nuts, maybe a spoon of honey, and that's a great breakfast or post-workout light recovery meal.

In the past weeks, the 450g tubs disappeared from Cold Storage and the 125g vanilla cups are always in short supply (unlike strawberry, which I like less).

Instead, Cold Storage has been stocking Chobani Fit.

The flavors are weird. The cookies and cream is disgusting, like tangy yoghurt with non-sweet microscopic cookie bits mixed in. It tastes like tangy paste. Clearly, this is the least popular flavor because half the display is cookies and cream and it looks like people grab the other flavors.

The tropical flavor is also weird. It's greek yoghurt with a fake, artificial vaguely pineapple syrup.

Does anyone know if the 450g tubs of vanilla Chobani Light have been discontinued forever?

Can any Chobani fans recommend their backup choice for low fat greek yoghurt?

Simplest home cooked onsen egg technique

I've come to enjoy onsen eggs at home and add them to everything from salads to quinoa protein bowls.

I have a very small tin-lined copper pot that's just big enough to boil a bowl of water or make a small amount of sauce, and it nicely fits three large eggs.

What I do is boil water in the pot, then shut off the heat and put the three eggs in for 15 minutes. This gets the whites perfectly silky and white, almost opaque and not just translucent with hints of that raw egg white taste.

The issue is any part of the egg that comes into contact with the hot metal overcooks, especially if there is yolk. I solve this without using a wire or strainer by putting three layers of kitchen towel on top of the pot and pushing the eggs down, with the kitchen towels in between the eggs and the bottom of the pot.

I think this is not a complete solution and the eggs still have too much contact with the bottom of the pot because the yolks come out semi-solid, not runny.

What's the simplest refinement here?

Should I just put folded kitchen towels on the bottom of the pot before filling it with water to prevent the eggs from touching the hot metal?

Leave the eggs in for 12 not 15 minutes?

Hard massage disrupts workout?

I had a very hard Thai massage the night before a morning Olympic weightlifting class. By hard, I mean the masseuse was standing on my back and digging into my back and shoulders with feet and ankles, and the masseuse also stretched me in various ways including lifting me up so I was lying on of her knees. It was a rejuvenating but genuinely deep and hard massage.

When I went to the class, I felt like my muscles were glitching and I scaled down to just a 5 kg plate on each side.

I asked my coach and he said massage before class is fine, but I don't think he understood what I meant by hard massage.

Can this kind of hard massage or deep tissue massage the night before (not after) a class interfere with performance like I describe?

How to dispute incorrect amount of refund from FoodPanda, customer service cutting and pasting replies instead of reading question

Does anyone know how to send complaints to FoodPanda about missing refunds/payment issues when their customer service refuses to read the actual question and keeps pasting cut-and-paste replies?

  1. I made a large order on FoodPanda (almost $100) from Cold Storage, containing only 2 kinds of items.

  2. Item #1 was marked not available, partial refund given.

  3. Later, Item #2 was marked sold out. Order was marked as still being delivered even after 10 PM (even after Cold Storage already closed).

  4. When Item #2 was marked sold out, the order was marked delivered successfully instead of being canceled. I took a screen shot of the order showing both "sold out" and "delivered".

  5. I discovered later that the amount of the refund was incorrect and was less than the amount of the total order.

  6. I wrote customer service 3 times, but the agents keep pasting they cannot process a refund if not reported in 24 hours. I told them it was reported but my issue is the refund amount was not correct, not to report a refund late. I told them I had an order marked both "sold out" and "delivered". They just paste a script again and again and refuse to read the screen shot or answer how to ask for review of an incorrect refund amount.

FoodPanda is clearly low budget and has bad customer service, compared to Amazon Fresh.

Does anyone know how to complain in this case, where there is no option for your case in customer service and they just send cut-and-paste replies instead of reading your question?

How to use bu and mba when talking to Indonesian women?

Bule here trying not to sound awkward.

I’m trying to understand the current etiquette around calling Indonesian women Bu/Ibu vs Mba/Mbak, especially in casual business or tech/startup/SME settings (not in a government office).

My rough understanding is that Bu/Ibu is respectful and safe for senior women, formal situations, directors/founders, government-facing contexts, or women who are clearly older. But Mba/Mbak may sound more natural for younger women in less formal settings.

For example, if someone is a female BD manager who looks mid/late 20s — not junior admin, but also not senior leadership — would Mba/Mbak [name] usually sound more natural than Bu/Ibu [name]?

I ask because an Indonesian colleague once told me that some younger women may quietly dislike being called Ibu/Bu in meetings, because it can make them sound older or more “madam/mother” than intended, even if the foreigner is just trying to be respectful. This person specifically told me to stop calling her and her immediate workmates Ibu in front of other people, although she was laughing when she said this.

On the other hand, I read somewhere that calling a younger woman Mba in business correspondence or a business meeting, even a less formal one, might not be appropriate unless you know her and enjoy some informality.

Which is true today, or does it depend on context? And in writing or WhatsApp, do people usually write Mba or Mbak?

Just trying to avoid sounding either too familiar or accidentally making someone feel old.

Buying SIM in Frankfurt airport or Colmar (40 day trip)?

Bonjour, sorry to post in English.

I am landing in Frankfurt in the morning but taking a train from the airport to Colmar. I am on a 40 day trip, half in France and half in Germany.

Is it better to buy a SIM card at Frankfurt airport, or wait until you reach Colmar (and use roaming or eSIM during the train transfer)?

I heard Frankfurt airport SIM options are limited and expensive, and activation in Germany as a tourist may be more difficult.

Also, is it simple to buy a 30-day plan and just top up, because my trip is more than 30 days?

Why is "cum" still used a lot in Singapore to mean and or with?

Serious question - Why is "cum" still used a lot in Singapore to mean and or with?

It's still seen in corporate and official documents in smaller companies and offices. It's not used anymore in Canada, Australia, and the UK itself.

Is this just a habit from the old Commonwealth or is there a more specific reason, like a lot of people who grew up in India working in Singapore and writing up notices and documents?

VFS France in Singapore - a VFS that actually works?!

Can people comment on VFS France in Singapore?

My friend just came from there and was very surprised that it is a VFS that actually works. She was helped by an older staffer named Shirley.
- Not crowded, you do not feel like cattle in a long queue
- Actually help you with small errors ($4 fee). My friend had errors in the form because the France Visas website does not let you choose "single" as a marital status, only "other - single", and she changed hotels after finalising the form.
- Actually help you print a forgotten document or tell you you can come back by noon to add something to the packet
- Have an efficiently set up biometrics room, with lights and stool set up in an idiot proof way
- Staff actually smile, act helpful and pleasant, and do not act robotic
- If you want to pick up your passport after processing, you can do it every afternoon (not just once a week).

This is insane, VFS can actually work and not feel like a trip to the dentist? Is this the consistent experience of Schengen visa applicants in Singapore?

Best brand/models men's shirts and shorts for CrossFit and weightlifting?

Are there any particular brands and models of men's shirts and shorts that are particularly good for CrossFit and for more specific classes like Olympic weightlifting? I need to upgrade and am not quite sure what makes for good training shirts and shorts.

I've come to like Saxx Kinetic briefs for CrossFit so will be looking for unlined shorts.

What travel insurance to buy if already insured by international health insurance?

What travel insurance do you buy if already insured by international health insurance, for the people working for a multinational company or have a personal expat health insurance plan that covers Europe?

The main reason for the Schengen visa travel insurance requirement is to cover hospital and medical expenses plus medical repatriation. The exact FAQ wording from France is:

"For stays not exceeding 90 days (unless exempt), trips for tourism or business require valid travel insurance covering any possible costs for medical repatriation, and emergency and/or hospital treatment. This is mandatory.

"This insurance must be valid throughout the Member States territory in the Schengen area, which fully apply the provisions of the Schengen accord and for the duration of your stay. It must allow you to access services in the Schengen area. This insurance must also provide coverage of €30,000 minimum including medical repatriation, and emergency and/or hospital treatment."

Company international health insurance typically covers at least US$500,000 and medical repatriation, so it already beats most travel insurance policies.

The non-medical coverage of travel insurance is trip cancellation (like prepaid hotel expenses), loss or damage of property (although this is small), and trip or baggage delay (although this is more restricted each year).

Does anyone who already has health insurance just buy the minimum travel insurance to comply with the visa requirement? Or is it useful to get stronger travel insurance coverage?

How to make corrections to France Visas application form before appointment?

I have a visa appointment for France, and filled in the application on France Visas.

France Visas no longer allows me to make corrections, it only allows retrieval of the PDF of the filled out application form.

What do you do if you need to make corrections? (In my case, there is a typo on my country of birth, I changed the hotel indicated in the form, and changed my itinerary (but still majority in France).

Do you make a new France Visas application and use that one?

Do you download the application form, fill it out again, and submit this corrected one at the appointment instead of the one on France Visas?

Copies of all passport pages with visas and entry/exit stamps for France Schengen visa?

Can I confirm that for a France Schengen visa application, you need to provide copies of your passport's identity page, annotations page, and every page with a visa and/or entry/exit stamps (including those outside Europe)?

The application form has this instruction: "Be sure to transmit (scan) the identity page of your travel document as well as ALL PAGES containing visas, entry and exit stamps or any other inscription."

And if you don't have a scanner, just take the best photos you can and print them all out, and black and white is fine?
