Merci :)

Acid Disco

Last weekend I was in a festival, and they played some good acid music, and sometimes they included sample from various well known disco music. It was great.

From here I got the idea of a new music style which is yet undefined (from what I know). The idea is only a name so far: Acid Disco.

Do you know something that would sound like acid disco? What would be acid disco for you? Anyone motivated to try to make an acid disco sound (in their own interpretation of course)?

I'm gonna browse a bit the Internet and look for tracks, but I wanted to post here first to get your thoughts :)

Cube Nuroad Race FE accessories

I've already spent a lot of time to find something for the rack/trunk, but now I'm looking to put some water bottles on the fork and what I see is a single bolt. Do you have any idea where I can find accessories for that? Or even some key work I should look for? Thank you :)

Cherche partenaires pour développer des idées tech/business

Salut,

Je me présente rapidement.

I am looking for a weather station to install on my balcony

The main goal is to monitor the outdoor temperature, bearing in mind that my balcony gets full sun; so, I need something suitable for that scenario.

It needs to run on batteries or operate without an external power cable (solar?), as I cannot plug it in; there is no outdoor power supply

And (of course) it must be compatible with Home Assistant. Any candidate you would recommend?

Micro-influencers for app marketing: where do you find them and is it worth it?

I've published an app, and I know the drill; you get 5 downloads and that's it. That's to be expected (based on all the posts I've seen here talking about it). ASO doesn't move the needle anymore.

So we all have to take the next step: active marketing. Not a problem for me; I'm willing to put some dollars into it and see if it's worth it. But my budget isn't extensive, so I'm leaning toward micro-influencers.

By micro-influencer, I mean people with decent reach (not thousands of followers, but something meaningful). My question is: where do you find them?

  • Are influencer marketplaces worth it? Some ask for subscription...
  • What's the best strategy; find someone in my niche sure; but my app is quite general (music app)? Or go for app reviewers?
  • What are your moves? Where/how do you hire micro-influencers?
  • TikTok, Instagram? Both?

Looking for advice from anyone who's done this successfully.

How I failed to overcome Guideline 5.2.3 Rejection - Legal (after weeks of fighting)

Hey fellow devs, I want to share my experience with someone who's been stuck in a rejection loop for weeks. Maybe some of you have faced this too, and want to talk about it. Because it's rather exhausting, almost depressing.

About the App: It's a native iOS media caching browser (I mean it is now, but it was more of a media download manager when I started). It works 100% with local processing. So, no servers, privacy-first. Find it here: MVO Media Cache Browser

The obvious problem: Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal.

Of course, I was not naive and knew that I will have to fight for it.

Here's the timeline of what I tried:

Attempt 0: Send it like that to get started.
→ Rejected with "Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal" and not explanation, no detail, no human text. Only the basic

>Issue Description The app contains content or features that may violate the rights of one or more third parties. Specifically, the app provides potentially unauthorized access to third-party audio or video streaming, catalogs, and discovery services. The app and its contents should not infringe upon the rights of another party. In the event the app infringes another party’s rights, you are responsible for any liability to Apple because of a claim.

Attempt 1: Technology Neutrality Argument Argued that my app is a neutral tool. Like selling knifes, if someone cuts meat or harm people, that's on them.
→ Rejected with "Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal" and not explanation or details.

Attempt 2: Tried the GDPR Article 20 data portability approach. Talking about EU private copying exceptions. Even submitted a formal signed legal certificate (PDF).
→ Rejected with "Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal" and still not explanation or any details.

Attempt 3: Onboarding Disclaimer Then I added a 3-screen onboarding flow. Explicit text: "Do not use this app to download copyrighted content. You are responsible for your actions." Made the UI super clean, no hint of downloading functionality.
→ Rejected with "Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal". No text.

Ho, no, I'm lying, they put some text: "Upon further review, we identified additional issues that need your attention." and gave me the same 5.2.3

Attempt 4: Complete Pivot Rebranded entire App Store presence. Changed description, screenshots, keywords. Presented it as a "standard web browser with aggressive media/page caching for low-connectivity environments." Removed any reference to "downloader."
→ Rejected with "Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal".

I was not that much surprised, but the main problem for me here was that the review does not give any clues about what I could do to make it pass. At this point, I spent weeks going back and forth. Each appeal took 3 to 5 business days.

I got frustrated by the lack of feedback, almost gave up on publishing entirely.

The "Workaround"

The only thing that finally worked: Hardcoded blacklist of litigious commercial domains : the obvious one YouTube and many others.

Now, if a user tries to cache media from these, they see an explanatory message: "This domain is blocked for legal reasons." What a sad twist.

I've sent it to review again not waiting for much at this point. It passed. So, you could say that's success, and yes the app is technically published, but it doesn't work the way users will probably expect. Many will go for this app hoping to download from YouTube/etc. They won't find that feature and may let bad reviews.

Honestly, I'm tired enough that I've kinda abandoned the whole fight at this point, it is so restricted that I'm still hesitating to invest marketing into it.

Has anyone else dealt with 5.2.3?
- What worked?
- Is this "blocking everything dangerous" strategy sustainable long-term?
- Should I push back harder, or accept this limitation and work my marketing message around?

Happy coding everyone!

MVO: Offline media browser with 100% local processing

Developer Disclosure: I am the creator and developer of this app

Answer

Native SwiftUI app for offline access to web video/audio 100% local on-device processing. No ads, no tracking, no remote servers.

Better

Unlike cloud-based downloaders that route your data through shady third-party servers, MVO processes everything locally inside the iOS sandbox via a Swift + yt-dlp engine. It has AirPlay compat, Background audio, all the cool Apple things are supported. Storage toggle between full video or audio-only to save space.

Some commercial streaming domains are hard-blocked at code level. This was required after fighting App Store Guideline 5.2.3 rejections for weeks. Works fully with open-content platforms like TED (CC licensed), podcasts, openly licensed media, tbh a lot is still accessible.

Cost

Freemium: 10 saved favorites free so you can test, or even live like that if you delete thing on the go. Or $1.99/mo to have it unlimited and support my work.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6771783869?pt=979843&ct=r2&mt=8

Happy to answer questions about the tech stack or the App Store review journey (that was not fun, and I almost dropped it).

Also, I wanted to thank everyone that helped me during the beta! Almost 100 persons 🙏

Soundcloud problem

Hello, I have bundled yd-dlp into an iOS app and most of the websites work except SoundCloud.

I mean, it may not even be related to the app thing as it does not work on my desktop either.

The command I have tried is:

yt-dlp
  --verbose
  --no-check-certificates
  --no-cache-dir
  --user-agent "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/147.0.0.0 Safari/537.36"
  --write-info-json
  --no-playlist
  --playlist-items 1
  -f "bv*[height<=720][vcodec^=avc]+ba[ext=m4a]/b[height<=720][vcodec^=avc]+ba/bv*[height<=720]+ba/b[height<=720]/bestvideo[height<=720]+bestaudio/b[height<=720]/best"

and it gives the error:

MVO: Bookmark your favorite media links, and enjoy offline background playback from any media URL

Hi everyone,

MVO (Music Video Offline) is a native, ad-free iOS app designed to let you build, organize, and play your favorite media links offline.

🎁 Beta Tester Perk:

I hate ads, so the final app will eventually be a paid model (limited to 10 bookmarks for free users). However, all TestFlight beta users will get a forever unlimited free version as a thank you for your help.

🧪 What to test & look for:

The app is currently awaiting full App Store review (it’s a touchy subject with Apple!). I need your help to:

  1. Stress-test the link-processing engine with various public video/audio domains.
  2. Report any UI bugs or layout issues.

I've made an iOS version of Redactle

Hello, tbh I love Redactle, and I've made my version called Wikireveal a long time ago. But the problem with those (Redactle included) is that it's quite hard (let's say not ergonomic) to play on mobile.

So I've made an iOS version of wikireveal, you can test it here: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6766313023?pt=979843&ct=it&mt=8

If enough people like it, and it does not backfire, I'll add features like streaks and other languages. Have a good reveal!
