Digital only future lessens the impact of every piece of art.

Imagine you work for a game for 5-10 years and after all of that painstaking effort you have nothing real and tangible to show for it to the people you care about.

Every night you browse aimlessly on netflix to find something to watch but ultimately give up cause nothing interest you.

On Spotify you put on some random playlist to fill the void, you don't really even care about the artists. Half of the songs are ai created.

You scroll aimlessly on Instagram just to kill time. Someone spent months to perfect their passion project digital art piece, half a second and you've scrolled passed never to be seen again.

Every media and art piece is just lost to the void for you to forget about.

Versus

You get to hand over a copy of the game you have been working on to your loved ones. You get to browse your shelf of your favourite movies and games that had a deep impact on you, there's always a perfect movie for you to watch and it's about time to replay that game.

You have another shelf for music from your favourite artist. You take out the vinyl and can see and feel how much effort they have put into that. There's a huge cover art, all the lyrics, credits to the makers and a personal thank you note to you, the fan.

You walk into a gallery a gallery and can see every brush stroke on the painting. On opening day you can spend hours talking to the artist about the painting that really spoke to you. And you can even buy the original work for your own, to keep and cherish forever.

Humans aren't meant to be robots to just mindless buy and consume whatever the digital algorithm puts in front of your face. We connect much more deeply to things we can interact in some way in the real world.

GOG is a DRM free digital gamestore from Poland, you get to actually own the games that you buy.

Since Sony has now decided to kill physical media videogames and we are forced to buy digital only why not support the only store that lets you own your games and support a European business on the side. Every other platform (to my knowledge), Playstation, Xbox, Steam, has drm. Meaning they can limit where and how you can play your games, and they can take away your purchases at any point with various means. So please support businesses that value consumer rights like GOG. Vote with your wallet, don't give your money to anti-consumerist companies.
