Cb550 rusty vs painted

On my last post an overwhelming majority of you said to keep the tank on my cb550 rusty, happened to have another bike that I could borrow a black tank from. What is the consensus now?
Completely changed the bike and I have to be honest I really like it…

will borrow the side covers next

What I saw vs what I reviewed

Bought an exhaust off marketplace and got it shipped. Is it fair that I am a tad bit annoyed about this. Seller said there was a small dent, and the photos made it look minimal. Seller seemed pretty cool so I would like to think the photograph wasn’t intentionally hiding the extent of the damage. And it’s right on the surface you see when it’s mounted 🤦🏻‍♂️

First I was positive it got damaged in shipping then I took a second look at the photos.

Looking for dog trainer

Hello København,

Could someone please recommend a dog trainer for our little boy here. He is generally very well behaved but unfortunately deals with separation anxiety, and can’t be left at home for even a few minutes while we run errands.

If anyone knows a good trainer specially for this it would be great.
There are many online and of course everyone claims to be the best. It would be great to hear from your experiences!

Thank you in advance :)

Question about valve cover install

Hello everyone quick question for my peace of mind. I managed to get the valve cover seated with the rocker arms that were loose aligned on the valves that, the cover side (assuming) where the cam is applying pressure on the rocker arms wasn’t sitting flat and to get it down I had to bolt it down not forcefully just for it to compress and sit, Is that normal and as expected?

My little understanding says yes but wanted to double check. Thank you for the help

Bonus question, installing the chain guide was a pain and I couldn’t really see if it fell into its pocket it was very difficult to see what was going on down there, but I tested that the bottom of the guide was fixed and it would pivot with the bottom fixed, my assumption was if it didn’t fall into it’s pocket it would have movement at the base? Is this correct way of checking?

Thanks in advance for the help! 😬

looking for a small workshop space where I can store and work on my motorcycle

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for a small workshop space where I can store and work on my motorcycle. I live on Amager and don’t have a car, so ideally somewhere in Copenhagen or reasonably easy to reach by public transport.

I’m 26 and work full-time as an engineer. I’m originally from Zimbabwe, where I grew up spending a lot of time in workshops with my dad and uncle, so I’ve always enjoyed working on mechanical projects.
At the moment I’m rebuilding a Honda CB550. I’ve been doing pretty much everything myself engine work, electrical, welding, fabrication, etc. and I’ve accumulated a decent amount of tools along the way.

I’m mainly looking for somewhere I can work on the bike and store it, but it would be a plus to find a small community of people who enjoy working on motorcycles and are happy to help each other out.

I tried getting in touch with some shared garage ads with no response just hoping there are more out there.

If anyone knows of a workshop, motorcycle community, shared garage or even someone with a bit of spare space, I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks 😊

To paint or not to paint

I have a dilemma, after rebuilding my bike I learnt the head gasket was leaking decided I will rebuild the top end. Now I never liked the way the flakey black engine looked. And knew eventually I would repaint it back to silver when I decide to repaint the bike ( tank, wheels, forks) and side covers for a more finished look.
Since I was going for ratty/ hot rod looking bike to begin with it didn’t matter and look fine. Now I had the opportunity to clean throughly and paint the engine or part of it for now. After cleaning and striping most of the old paint I thought maybe leaving it as is could work with the look better. Now I am not sure what to do. What do you guys think? I will eventually paint it and not sure if I will have the parts this thoroughly degreased and cleaned again.
So that’s a plus for paint now, a plus for not painting is that I can get away with not painting the rest of the engine too.

CB550 paint engine in frame?

Hello, I am rebuilding the top end of my engine and thought it was good opportunity to repaint the parts because it was poorly done by previous owner (or looks bad now) also because I think silver is the best look. I realize it will probably look terrible if I paint half the engine with the bottom end looking so crummy. I don’t have jacks or stands to take the engine out traditional way. I have two options: lift the bottom end out by hand place it on card board or wood to clean and paint, or just do it in frame. The idea with leaving it in is that the more visible parts would be paint out of frame and just the bottom end is cleaned and painted in frame, maybe I will remove the clutch cover to paint separately as for the other covers I have stripped the paint and maybe polish them. Any tips or recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Please help: 1976 Cb550 Battery charging system

Some context: My setup currently uses a m unit, a new Lithium ion battery and a new rectifier/ regulator to go with it. My battery isn’t charging, (Voltage does increase with revs) issue is the stator 3 phase has no VAC output or at the very least it’s too low.
Usually this would indicate the stator is faulty but this bike has a field coil instead of a permanent magnet which gets power from the RR, and I suspect the field coil isn’t getting enough power, as the bike idles the signal going to the field coil ( white cable ) is 0.5V not sure what it should be, couldn’t find anything online on a standard range.

The RR has a black wire which I have wired into the Munit lock so it gets 12v input when ignition is on. White wire goes to the field, 3 yellow go to the stator, a green ground and a red wire connects to the munit battery terminal.

Not sure how to determine if the issue is wiring, the alternative ( stator or field coil) or the RR. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

I am only trying to better my knowledge, I don’t have an opinion on this but I was curious to why the x20 seems to be so popular. I am saying this based on the specs and the fact that I see the used prices to be twice as much as the x10 at times and usually more expensive than the x30 too. Is the x20 more popular and demand is higher or are these prices a result of fewer x20s?( I do see less for sale than the x10 and x30). Is there something I am missing?

I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking, but I ended up bidding on a pretty rough-looking Fujifilm X20 that appears to have been dragged across asphalt. I won the auction… and then the reality of that decision set in.

For context, I restore vintage watches and have recently started getting into photography. When I saw this camera, a little voice in my head said, “I can fix this.” In hindsight, that confidence might be more enthusiasm than actual experience, I have no background in camera repair.

So I’m hoping to get some input from people who know these cameras better than I do. Based on the condition in the photos, does this seem realistically repairable? Or is there a good chance the internals are beyond saving?

From what I’ve researched so far, I feel reasonably confident I could replace the screen, clean out debris, and swap external parts like the panels and viewfinder cover. Of course, I’ll properly test it once it arrives but I’m curious whether anyone here can look at the photos and give a gut check on whether this is worth attempting, or likely a lost cause. Also there was no description to indicate if it turns on or not.
