Did anyone's Haribo battery ever blow up?

They sold like hot cakes and then stopped making them but never had a recall.

Has anyone had or heard of an incident? I have the 10k and only use it within 15 miles of the trailhead out of paranoia.

SIHOO C300 Review & Hack

I've just gotten a C300 after having a M57 (branded as Massdrop Task Chair). I liked the M57 but the weld on the base broke and now it wobbles all over on the post.

The quality of the chair overall is immediately apparent, comparable to the M57.
One thing that I was disappointed by was the chrome on the legs, especially the plastic chrome on the castors. The simple matte black of the Massdrop version appears much less tacky and the castors also appear to roll better.

The lumbar is definitely nice, and reclining is comfortable. The headrest also feels nice, although the adjustment isn't terribly intuitive and I think the one on the M57 might be better for the simplicity.

The thing I can't get past is the seat. It has an Aeron-like plastic rim all around and the plastic flares up on the sides. This could be just how I like to sit but I like to fold a leg up or spread my legs and the hard plastic is uncomfortable. The M57 also has a gel bar on the front under the mesh which provides nice support while the C300 just sags.

The hack: the bolt pattern on the base of both chairs is the same. If you remove the arms from either the C300 (attached at the back) or the M57 (attached at the seat), you can swap the seats flawlessly. There are no issues with the adaptive backrest and I think this arrangement is strictly better than either of the chairs on their own. The SIHOO mesh seems to be very good quality, and despite 10 years of heavy use the old seat doesn't seem to have lost any tension compared to the new one so I have no concerns there.

Overall I would recommend either chair to anyone in the $200-300 price range, not everyone will share my quirks on seat preference. But it's a real joy if you have the opportunity to mix and match parts.

Heltec v4 single day battery life?

I'm between something like a T-Echo and a higher power Heltec v4 (meshnology N35 or muzi H2T) for a handheld node.

I know the ESP32 is a little more power hungry, but assuming I'm able to charge it nightly, would one of those be suitable for 24 hours in the field?

[WTS] MSR Pocket Rocket backpacking stove

$30, get out there.

Good condition, no funny business around the seal or valve.

I'll throw in a piece of copper for a Moulder strip if you want.

Tokina Opera 50/1.4 vs Sigma 50/1.4 Art

Anyone with experience on either/both of these lenses?

The adapted lenses db seems to indicate the Sigma might be soft around the edges, but I know the Sigma is more commonly used here.

I'm also debating the Viltrox and Fringer adapters. Any input on the value of the LaCA correction in the Fringer relative to these lenses is also welcome.

Mitakon Zhongyi 55/2.8 5x Macro?

Does anyone have info or experience on using this lens for digitizing film?

My interest in this is for the > 1x magnification for getting 35mm film to fill the sensor of a GFX camera.
TTArtisan makes a compelling 2x macro as well, but that lens has vignetting on GFX when used past 1x.

Helicoil for removable mount for bench vise

Any reason I shouldn't put 4 helicoils into my bench and use those to bolt a vise in and out? Then I can remove it when I'm not using it, and it has more stability than a clamp-on vise.

Natural live view ate my highlights?

I usually shoot with blinkies, pro neg std or eterna, and highlights -2. I recently switched to natural live view for fear of leaving too much headroom. But when I open the images up, I'm not seeing the highlights pull down like I'd hope. Any settings I should be checking? Highlight threshold configs for the blinkies?

eg.
