One of my fave local technical trails for mountain biking: Sawmill in Soderberg Open Space

One of my fave local technical trails for mountain biking: Sawmill in Soderberg Open Space

Sawmill is awesome. Not a long trail, mind you, but rugged and fun. When you start at the Stout Connector, go up Stout, down Sawmill, and back to the Soderberg TH via Nomad and Stout Connector again, it's just a blast. This is the techiest part.

La Plata Mountain scenery over Kennebec Pass, July 18th of 2010

How I miss you, Durango! Living on the Front Range reminds me of how spoiled I was to be just surrounded by wilderness and far fewer people.

Oh, Arapaho Pass, how I love you (Indian Peaks Wilderness, Colorado, USA). August 2025. [2160x1440] [OC]

The controversial academic psychologist Julian Jaynes coined the term "Bicameral Mind" in a theory about how auditory hallucinations (authoritative voices in particular) stem from the 'forgotten' / 'neglected' right brain, whereby most all people used to hear them thousands of years ago.

What do we think about this theory of consciousness of self or others? His seminal book on this is summed up on Wiki here @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Origin\_of\_Consciousness\_in\_the\_Breakdown\_of\_the\_Bicameral\_Mind), for a nicely formatted and digestable primer. I, for one, have done a ton of academic research and find the theory fascinating and also pretty darned cogent.

Azalea flowers in dappled sunlight

Shot with my Nikon D850 and Nikon 50mm f/1.8 @ ISO 800, f/10, 1/320th of a second. It was very windy, so these flowers were moving a bit, as were the tree leaves above that were causing the dappled light. It took many photos to capture the focal point flower in a ray of light that accentuated it, as the lit elements shifted nonstop and very quickly. I do feel that even with my patience making it happen, that I got lucky anyhow!

Milky Way over Peak 1 and Dillon Reservoir, Colorado (from Heaton Bay campground)

Shot with my Nikon D750 and a 50mm f/1.8 lens. f/1.8, ISO 1600, 20 seconds. This was literally the first time I tried an astro photo with this lens. I had zero clue that the Milky Way was right in front of me, let alone aligned like this over the peak. The result blew me away and made me actually jump for joy.

Ohhhh ho ho ho this was perfect. Close game on the real, but this play capped it for us since we took the flag back at the last few seconds of the match after the hammer spree (One Flag), and we won.

Back when the lake shores were more vegetated due to less trammeling caused by the rise of social media making the place a Disneyland of sorts. Scanned with a meek Kodak Scanza (12MP sensor).

Made this one over a couple days in Adobe Fresco using my iPencil (the symmetry mode is awesome). No AI assistance.
