Melukote + Shravanabelagola in one day with a 60+ mother – good idea?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a day trip this Thursday from Bengaluru with my mother, who is in her early 60s.

I was thinking of visiting Melukote (Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple) and then heading to Shravanabelagola on the same day. My main concern is whether this itinerary is practical and comfortable for a senior citizen.

A few questions:

  • Is it realistic to cover both places in a day without rushing too much?
  • How physically demanding is Shravanabelagola, especially the climb to the Bahubali statue?
  • Are there any facilities/rest points for elderly visitors?
  • If you've taken parents or senior family members there, how was their experience?
  • Would you recommend any alternative places near Melukote that might be more senior-friendly?

For context, my mother can walk normally but I would prefer not to make the trip too tiring for her.

Would love to hear your suggestions and experiences. Thanks in advance!

26M, 2-3 years away from marriage. Where to keep my marriage fund ?

This is 26.5 year old M, currently single. I have dependent mother and father is no more.

I will be marrying anydate post 2028 March [i.e 100% sure not before that]. Budget is around 10-12L. I have kept 7L so far, for this. Remaining amount [i.e 5L] mother will be arranging. Currently, for my 7L, I have kept it in arbitrage fund. But I am wondering if this is the right call.

Given that I will not be required this amount in next 1.75 year, what's the best place to keep this money ?

[Please note : Lets stick to finance aspect of this. I would to like stay away from engaging from any conversation [about how I should get married, how much I should spend, with whom I should marry, should I marry in arranged marriage market or not etc] that isn't about personal finance here].

Confused about moving into my uncle's house.

Here I am confused. Let me give brief intro of myself : Okay let me tell the story briefly. 26M, working in chipdesign field in Bengaluru, living with single parent [mother]. I lost my father when I was 12 due to cancer. I studied well and I have decent MNC job now. But here is what happening. Since I am fatherless, and my mother lost her husband, my maternal uncle [mother's brother] is empathetic towards us. He has special place in his heart for us, compared to my other cousins, because I lost my father. [Like how for Bheeshma Yudhishtira mattered a lot, because Yudhishtira is fatherless kid]. My father asked him repetitively to take care of his kids. My uncle, I think, remembers it everytime.

This uncle of mine, has recently constructed a house in Bengaluru. It is 3 floor standalone building. He is inviting me and my mom to stay in one of the floors [1st floor]. In 2nd floor he will stay. In 3rd floor he gives it for rent. Thats his plan. So he is asking us to stay there. I am really confused here.

Pros :

-> Me and my mother's relationship with my unlce, aunt and his only son, so far is good. They all are good people. Boomers yes, but good hearted.

-> My mother may feel less lonely I think ? She is okay to move there.

-> I will save rent. My uncle wants me to save and buy my house in Bengaluru.

Cons :

-> My uncle is not my father, no matter anything people say. He is still my uncle. Staying in his house for free doesn't look good. But I am sure he wont accept any rent. Asking it can be offensive.

-> I am living in his house. Will it create obligation towards him ? Will I forever be owing him something ? Even though he is reluctant to accept anything and wants me to buy house.

-> Going to office from my current is only far. From his house it will even be far and I need to change metro also.

-> Everything is good when we live far. We start fighting when we live together. Will this be applied to me as well ? Will I loose good bonding with my uncle ?

Currently he is asking me to stay in his house for 1 week and asks me try going to office from house. He's asking this to make sure commute is also workable. I am thinking to give commute as the main reason to decline his offer. But at the same time, I am afraid also, will I be hurting him ? Guys I am totally totally confused.. What to do ? Yen maadodu maga.. Gotttagtaa illa..

Living in Kathriguppe, office near Seetharamapalya metro — am I overpaying? Where should I shift?

Namaskaara Ellariguu!

I live in Kathriguppe, BSK 3rd stage. Currently the rent was 24K for 2bhk with car parking but owner is asking for ₹25K from next month. I'm 26M, Kannadiga, living with my single parent, have a car.

My office is near Seetharamapalya Purple line metro station. Daily commute is around 1.5 hours one way. It is daunting but at the same time, since Kathriguppe area is good and have Kannadiga dispora I had decided to continue.

Two questions:

  1. Am I overpaying for Kathriguppe? Owner is claiming market rate here is 27-28K. Doesn't feel right to me.
  2. Thinking of three options for shifting:
  • Move closer to office (near Seetharamapalya) — What are the good options I have ? Rent should be 25K-26K.
  • Stay in Kathriguppe — familiar area, mother is comfortable. But owner is increasing rent 1K every year and I am already in 4th year.
  • Move to Vijayanagara or RR Nagar — Purple line metro access, still ~1.5 hours, but good areas with Kannada dispora.

What would you suggest? Is option 3 a sweet spot?

Genuine advice welcome. Thanks.
