lost cause bingo in tennessee

just got back from a civil war road trip thru TN. my girl got bingo, but it continues to elude me.

this version isn’t exclusively lost cause. i had to make the game a little more general when the first couple trips didn’t yield enough lost cause (pleasantly surprised). my trip thru mississippi, however… oof.

yall got any ideas for my next version?

Turns out using too many fonts in a single design is a tale as old as time

An illustrated version of Robert E Lee’s surrender in 1865 - I came across this monstrosity while reading a book about the Civil War.

I usually love the slightly crowded look and calligraphy of the late 1800s/early 19th century, but this hurts my eyes.

swag survey - which one do I print?

I'm making swag for my friends who are joining me on a trip to Shiloh and Vicksburg. I'm thinking tote bags. Which of these should I finish and print?

Category is buddy comedies / action movies.

I'm wondering...

  1. Is the movie's poster instantly recognizable? (despite the re-casting)
  2. If someone didn't know the movie, is there any way they could misinterpret it to mean something problematic / offensive?
  3. Any artistic notes? (thematic mismatches, don't read as Grant / Sherman / Porter, put Bad Boys in uniform, etc)

my friends know all these movies, and their sense of humor is solid. I just wanna make sure some random passer-by doesn't think I'm saying something I'm not (happened before). I mocked up Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, but the guys looked like they were doing drag (which I love, but didn't want to get into it with a stranger who doesn't).

thanks for weighing in!

1st time hiring a writer. Apologies if I’m violating a rule - promise I read that whole wiki.

I’m seeking an experienced writer to hire in my capacity as a private individual (I’m not a company) for a one-off personal project. If I offer you the job, I will ask you to review and sign a Writing Services Agreement and SOW, which specifies the assignment timeline, deliverables, payment structure, and our mutual obligations.

Below is a summary. Additionally, I’ve prepared the following resources, available by request:
* Job Rec - how to apply, addl details.
* Creative Brief - details the project.

Overview: Seeking a writer to create cinematic, modern, approachable voiceover scripts for a self-guided boat tour about the Combahee River Raid. Research materials provided; no research / fact checking required.

Project Objective: Spotlight a lesser-known Civil War story to encourage interest and engagement.

Deliverable: Stop-by-stop voiceover scripts for the tour based on provided materials, plus transitions / hand offs between stops.

Scope:
* up to 12 tour segments (stops)
* each stop <= 5min spoken and/or <= 1k words not including quotes from primary sources
* total length target ~8400-12k words
* participation in kick off meeting
* participation in story architecture review and input
* 3 drafts total including final
* up to 3 revision rounds included (feedback is 1 consolidated pass /round, addl rounds available at hourly rate)

As a layman, I cannot estimate how many hours the assignment will require. Hoping mods will permit this exception. 🤞

Tone: heightened stakes, everyday language. Cinematic sincerity with modern, conversational delivery - inspiring and honest, but approachable. The accessibility of The Princess Bride narration over an Ocean’s 11 plotline with the gravitas of The Shawshank Redemption.

Timeline: up to 44 business days (approx 9 weeks / ~2 months) if we both take the max turnaround time for our deliverables.

Budget: $4k-$5k (btw .33¢-.60¢ per word) depending on experience and sample fit. Add ons (ex, revision rounds exceeding the included 3) billed at the writer’s hourly rate.

How to Apply:
Please DM me for the Job Rec link, which has instructions on applying. It’s a pdf (sorry).

Finally: This is a passion project. Although not a requirement, enthusiasm for this area of study will serve the work. If you have also been nerd sniped by this event or a related one, don’t hesitate to let it show.
