Supporters packed into and gathered outside the Collin County courthouse Wednesday as Karmelo Anthony returned to court, and his defense walked away with an important victory.

Visiting Judge Sid Harle granted the defense’s motion to recuse Judge John Roach Jr. from Karmelo’s post-trial proceedings.

The defense had challenged Roach’s ability to preside over the next phase after his public comments following the trial, including agreeing that the jury “got it right,” as well as raising concerns about restrictions on public access during the trial.

Dozens of Karmelo supporters showed up inside and outside the courthouse. After the ruling, supporters celebrated outside and chanted “Free Karmelo!”

I mean communities where racist jokes, stereotypes, slurs, dog whistles, and other race-based content are routinely left up because the moderators consider it humor, acceptable discussion, or simply not worth removing.

Why doesn’t Reddit require some kind of visible warning or community label when a subreddit’s moderation standards regularly permit that kind of content?

Reddit already uses labels and warnings to help users understand what kind of content they may encounter. A similar system could give users meaningful notice before they participate in a community where racist content is commonly tolerated.

This wouldn’t necessarily require Reddit to ban those communities. It would simply give users transparency about the environment they’re entering.
