Which is your favorite non single from the second album?
Mine is Never Give Up On The Good Times. I also really like Do It and Denying.

Northern Star is so good. And Mel C did every genre and pulled it off. I also give her props for choosing a heavy rock song as her lead single.
Heard that everyone was doing the dance during school breaks back then
EDIT: Let me try make this more clear as literally NO ONE seems to have interpreted the question like I meant it. I know that they got their nicknames in a magazine. I want to understand how it grew beyond that. What other examples are there from that late 96-up to the Brits 97 window exists that show how the nicknames grew so much in a short space of time.

I understand they originated from a music magazine. But only people in the UK/Ire had that magazine, right? And not everyone is going to have read it? And even so, it was just a joke article. Tons of other articles like it have been long forgotten.
So how did the use of those names grow to become universally known?
So well known that they were introduced by those names at the BRITS performance (less than a year after their debut!)
It's really striking how well-crafted posts, with good information, facts, invitations to participate, etc., get practically no engagement. But if someone posts a photo, or asks questions like "What's your favorite Spiceworld song?", they get tons of comments. Curious, that's all.
my top 5 would be:
Emma Bunton - Free Me (Full Intention’s Freed Up Extended Mix)
Melanie B - I Want You Back (MAW Remix)
Victoria Beckham - Not Such An Innocent Girl (Robbie Rivera’s 3AM Dark Mix)
Melanie C - I Turn To You (Hex Hector Club Mix)
Geri Halliwell - Look At Me (Terminalhead Remix)
like i said..these are in no order and they all are fantastic mixes on their own. they just happen to be some of my favorite solo Spice remixes. do you have a top 5? what are yours? i’d love to see some lists! 😊
Mel C is constantly brought up as the best singer but I always found her voice so nasal. She always sounded like she needed to blow her nose.
Emma has a sweet, honey-like voice. Always sings on key, her ballads are the best and Emma has done West End. Maybe is a vocal explosion.
I always think that Was a swimsuit or a Thong inside hahahaha
They looked so comfy.. I always wanted Geri’s color.
Peep the second page towards the bottom. Makes me sad that this album meant so much to her and it didn’t do well. Music is still her passion.
Went into a merch shop at the o2 with my SO. The shop is selling all types of merch from metal to pop bands. Noticed this tee and i swear this isnt Mel B. Am I wrong?
So you can have an idea about the SpiceMania in the 90s:
Spice (Album)
In February 1997, Spice Girls' debut album Spice entered the Billboard 200 at No. 6, breaking the record for the highest-charting debut first career album by a UK group in the US, held by The Beatles in 1964 with their debut album Meet The Beatles!, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 92.
Spice Girls held that record for 15 years until One Direction's debut album, Up All Night, became the first debut album by a UK group to debut at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200.
Little Mix broke Spice Girls' record for the highest-charting debut album by a UK/ international girl group in the US in June 2013 with their debut album DNA, which entered at No. 4. In 2022, Blackpink broke Little Mix's record when their album Born Pink debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Spice is still today the only album by a UK girl group to reach No. 1 in the Billboard 200 USA, the best-selling album of 1997 in the USA, and the only girl group album to end the year as the best-selling album.
Note: Spice eventually climbed to No. 1 for 5 non-consecutive weeks.
Wannabe (Single)
In January 1997, their debut single "Wannabe" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 11, breaking the record for the highest-charting debut first career single by a UK group in the US, held by The Beatles in 1964 with "I Want to Hold Your Hand", which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 45. Spice Girls still hold that record.
Note: Wannabe eventually climbed to No. 1 for 4 consecutive weeks and is the 10th best-selling single of 1997 in the USA.
The record for the Highest debut by a UK group on the US singles chart was held by the Spice Girls for 15 years with "Say You'll Be There," which entered the chart straight at No. 5 in May 1997, previously held by the Beatles in 1964 with "Let It Be" No. 6, was broken by One Direction's single "Live While We're Young", which entered the Hot 100 at No. 3 in 2012.
Even today, Wannabe is still the highest-charting debut first career single by a UK group in the US, and the best-selling single by a girl group in the US.
Say You'll Be There is still the highest-charting debut by a UK girl group in the US.
Extra: 2 Become 1 is the 5th Highest debut by a UK group on the US singles chart, which entered at No.6 on 16 August 1997.
