10 days trip to Jamaica

Hello there

We are arriving at Montego Bay Airport and thought going to Negril for a few days and then going towards Ocho Rios to do Dunns River Falls and Blue Hole (in the same day) staying one night in ocho Rios and then next day go to Blue Lagoon rafters (staying there in port Antonio or so)

but… seems like a lot of travel so I thought since we really like Negril (for what it says) maybe we skip Blue Lagoon Rafters and go to Dunns River fall and blue hole one day from Negril? So we can stay more days in Negril.

I’m not sure how expensive are the transfers from city to city …

Also, We are gonna do the last 3 nights at an all inclusive in Monego Bay but didn’t want to move from there ( I’m saying this bc could be a possibility to do that one day we leave the all inclusive to go Dunns river and blue hole)

What do you suggest?
Thanks :)

What is the tipping culture in Jamaica?

When visiting Jamaica, I usually stay at an all inclusive hotel where tipping is expected but not mandatory. I always tip the hotel staff, but when I’m off the property, what is the tipping culture like? For example, if you get gas or dine out at restaurants, is tipping expected or required?

Royalton Negril Reopening Date

Heard it would be some time in late August 2026. Has anyone been by the property lately does it look like they're making progress fixing the hurricane damage?

Thinking about traveling in late September but don't want to roll the dice on it not being back up and running.

Any local intel on the status?

Weather in Negril?

We leave for our honeymoon Saturday and will be in Negril from Saturday to Friday. Our weather app is saying rain & lightening every single day. Is this their rainy season?😅 & if you’ve been to Jamaica recently has it rained almost every day?

Our travel agent recommended Jamaica but did not inform us that it would be rainy season, if that’s the case.

Where to go in one week

Hey Guys! Im going to be solo travelling to jamaica for one week (June 13 - 20) and am looking for tips on where to spend my time and things to do. I like to get out and do local things, dont plan on staying in an all inclusive. Where should I go? Negril? Ocho Rios? Down to Kingston? Very into outdoorsy adventurous things as well. Thanks for the tips!

Montego Bay Full Day Driver

Hi, I am looking for a driver for about 9 hours who is able to take me/my wife from my resort to a few places (all within about 30 mins) like Scotchies, Doctors Cove, Rose Hall Plantation, cocktail bar, and eventually back to the resort. How much does this typically cost? Does the driver stay with you the entire time?

Riu Montego Bay - Guide Recommendation

Hi,

I am heading to Riu Montego Bay mid June for 7 days.

Looking todo something 5 of the 7 days, and wondering if there are any tour guides who can help book everything?

I’m researching on my own and create an itinerary but would trust a local to know better than my googling and planning and booking.

Any referrals will be helpful! And opinions on tour guides vs doing it all on my own.

Thanks in advance

Air b n b question

As tourists, returning residents, or local, If there was a private cabin where the White River runs right through the property, swimming holes included, security on site, walking distance to all attractions, would you book it and what would you pay?

Does this really work?

Maybe I'm thinking too deep or expecting a gush of energy after drinking just this. But I don't feel anything after drinking this Boom drink.

What exactly does this do?

Or maybe it's just a regular drink, and you apply your own energy like normal, and the drink is just for hype??? I don't know.

Does it work for you?

Solo F looking to recover under the Jamaican sun

Hello all!! I visited Jamaica for the first time last April, and fell in love! I stayed at the Grand Palladium Jamaica side, & loved the entire experience. I was wondering if there were any other resorts that are recommended for a nice, relaxing stay with a good lounge/ bar area that stays open late with good music. I'll be solo F,30s again for this trip.

Thank you!

Someone tried to break into my room

Just got back from a 7-day trip to Negril, Jamaica through Sunwing. We stayed at Legends Beach Resort first and then later got moved to Samsara Resort. Overall, the trip ended up being memorable and we still enjoyed parts of Jamaica, but there are some things I genuinely think people should know before booking.

When we first arrived at Legends, the beach side looked beautiful and the food throughout the trip was honestly amazing. Jamaican food was probably one of the best parts of the vacation. The jerk chicken, patties, oxtail, rice and peas, everything was great. The beach sunsets were also unreal.

We stayed on the garden side of Legends initially, and this is where I think people need to manage expectations a bit. The garden side did not feel secure at all compared to the beach side. There’s visible security around the beach entrance, but around the garden side there were constantly random people hanging around outside the property offering marijuana, mushrooms, brownies, taxi rides, etc. Most people leave you alone if you firmly say no, but some can definitely be pushy or aggressive with trying to get your attention.

One thing I really want to warn people about is transportation. Personally, after my experience there, I would strongly recommend only using transportation arranged through your resort, Sunwing, or Nexus Tours. There are a lot of unofficial taxi drivers around the resort areas and some of them gave off sketchy vibes.

The biggest issue happened on one of the nights at Legends. Around 10:40 PM, while we were asleep in our room, someone started knocking on our door and windows. At first we thought maybe it was confusion or someone drunk, but it continued for around 15 minutes. The person was checking the windows and slowly trying to open the door while we were inside the room pretending to stay quiet.

We called police multiple times and honestly that experience was frustrating too because the dispatcher kept hanging up on us and seemed like she didn’t believe us when we said someone was actively trying to break into our room. Eventually police did arrive, and when they showed up, the suspect ran away from them.

That night was honestly terrifying. We ended up barricading our hotel room door with furniture because there was no way to directly contact security overnight and the front desk was closed at the time. We barely slept.

Now, to give credit where it’s deserved, the way the resort owner handled the situation the next morning completely changed my opinion of management. The owner personally came to speak with us, apologized sincerely, reviewed CCTV footage, cooperated with police, and offered to move us to Samsara Resort free of charge along with transportation.

After moving to Samsara, the trip got way better. Samsara felt significantly safer, quieter, more private, and much more relaxing overall. We were finally able to enjoy the vacation properly after that. If I ever returned to Negril personally, I would choose Samsara over the garden side of Legends without hesitation.

A few honest tips for future travelers:
- Bring mosquito spray because we definitely had mosquitoes in the room at Legends.
- Bring around $300-$400 USD cash because Jamaica is very tip-oriented and a lot of smaller vendors only take cash.
- Expect people to approach you often around tourist areas selling things or offering rides.
- Stay polite but firm with vendors.
- Be careful with transportation and avoid random taxi offers outside the resort.
- If security and peace of mind are important to you, I’d strongly recommend staying somewhere with more controlled access/security presence.

Overall, Jamaica itself is beautiful. The beaches, weather, food, and scenery were amazing, and most of the actual resort staff were friendly and welcoming. Our trip had a really rough and scary moment, but I do think the resort owner handled the aftermath professionally and genuinely tried to make things right afterward.

Is Kingston dub club cash only?

My debit card is discover and haven’t been able to find an atm/ bank that takes cash out in Montego Bay. I was really looking forward to going to this club but have heard mixed things about if they take card or are cash only. Are they cash only?
