Peyton Watson will make more than Cedric, GG, Jaylen, and OMax combined next year

The Peyton Watson deal has me thinking about the value the league is assigning to lanky 3 and D Wings.

As we’ve all pointed out, between Jaylen, GG, Ced, and OMax, we have a lot of these types of guys.

I like Watson a lot, and his breakout in December showed that right now, in this exact moment, he’s better than the guys I listed above. He’s taller than all of them besides GG, has a wider wingspan than Jaylen and GG, and has a better ppg than all of them.

But this is a year where all of those guys are out prove something, and there have been moments for each of those players that have shown that with a little bit of pressure any one of them can produce equal, if not better stats than Watson for a fraction of the price.

Peyton Watson ($22 mil): 14.6 ppg / 4.9 rb / 2.1 ast / 49.1 FG%

Cedric Coward ($6,001,080): 13.6 ppg / 5.9 rb / 2.8 ast / 47.1 FG%
OMax Prosper ($2,497,812): 10 ppg / 3.5 rb / 1 ast / 54.9 FG%
GG Jackson II ($2,406,205): 12.5 ppg / 4.3 rb / 1.5 ast / 49.6 FG%
Jaylen Wells ($2,296,271): 12.5 ppg / 3.2 rb / 1.6 ast / 43.1 FG%

Who do you think from these guys could get a payout similar to Watson on the open market?

A Declaration of War on Clankers | Flair up by Oct 1st to Defeat the Bots

TLDR: IN ORDER TO REDUCE BOT ACTIVITY IN OUR COMMENTS, ALL USERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE FLAIR IN ORDER TO POST/COMMENT STARTING OCTOBER 1st.

You may have noticed comments popping up on the sub over the past few months that sound a little off.

These strange commenters are easy to spot largely because they are eternally stuck in the 2024-2025 season and typically their account was created within the last 200 days.

Here’s an example of one of these comments from the past week:

“If Ja plays 65+ games they clear 45 wins without breaking a sweat. The west is a bloodbath but a healthy core with Smart added to the mix changes the whole dynamic.”

Once again this is a comment talking about the Ja-less, Marcus Smart-less 2026-27 Memphis Grizzlies.

These are comments made by cogsucking, chromedomed, clankers and tinskins. It’s not enough for these bots to come for our jerbs, but now they’re coming for our humble online fan community.

Idk what the bots are here to accomplish or what nefarious multinational entity is behind them but your handsome and powerful mod team is dedicated to keeping our subreddit real.

In an effort to reduce bot spam, on Thursday October 1st all posters and commenters on r/memphisgrizzlies will be required to have flair in order to post or make comments on the sub.

Bots are too dumb to flair up, so this should curb bot traffic for the time being.

We set Bot D-Day so far in the future to give normal people a chance to flair up before the preseason begins, because if we’re being real it’s only the real Grizz sickos hanging out here this deep into the offseason.

In the meantime, you can add user flair in the toolbar on the righthand side of your screen on desktop (hit the three dots on the banner on mobile). If you don’t like any of the options available to you, our sub offers customizable flair for all users, so you can make your own.

If you see any suspicious comments that look bottish, call them a robophobic slur and alert the mod team, and we’ll be happy to eradicate the clanker scum.

If you have any other suggestions on how to reduce bot activity on the sub, we’re all ears.

Thanks for understanding and helping us fight back against the Dead Internet Theory.

Go Grizz,

The Mod Team

Does Kris Murray stick around?

Seeing the Grizz PR post this is the first time I considered Kris Murray being on this team next season, but it seems a little weird to assign a number and take promotional photos of a guy they plan to waive. I like his defensive upside, but there's not really anything else in his game that impresses, and with him turning 26 today I figure that if he were to take a leap then it would have happened already.

Do y'all think there's anything to read into here or is it safe to assume he's still a likely roster casualty?

26-27 Season streaming

Does anyone know what the plan is for streaming the games this upcoming season? I saw where the Predators are doing OTA games on their local news networks. I am hoping the grizzlies do something similar.

If you could build a point guard for this roster, what would they be like?

I don’t think I need to rehash the whole guard situation for this roster but the simple version is Jerome is gonna be 30 soon and nobody else has shown starter potential/execution to set themselves in stone for the future. Not saying a guy on the roster cant develop into that, but we haven’t seen it yet.

So if you could fill that hole with our roster in mind, what is the playstyle, physical tools, premium ability, etc would you want to see from a point guard for this roster?

What game(s) did you circle on the schedule?

Home or away, driven by love or hate, on a Wednesday or holiday, because of JJJ or because of Trip -- whatever the reason, which game(s) did you circle on the calendar at first glance?

New fan

Yo so I’ve been wanting to get into basketball for quite some time now as a person from the UK I haven’t ever really been able to do that. But the time is now and because I support Everton in the premier league I’ve heard the grizzlies are quite similar so I’ve decided to start supporting the grizzlies so, if anyone has any highlights or anything that they would recommend me it would be much appreciated.

Damichael Cole Interview with Jaylen Wells

For those stuck behind the paywall:

“Jaylen Wells is growing up fast in NBA years.
After two seasons in the league and several Memphis Grizzlies roster changes, Wells is already one of the longest-tenured players on the team.

The 6-foot-7 wing has played more games with the Grizzlies than any member of the current roster. Third-year players aren’t often expected to vault into leadership roles, but Wells is carrying himself like a player prepared for increased expectations.

It’s been a busy summer for Wells, who has averaged 11.4 points while making 143 career starts. He’s traveled, continued working to refine his game, got engaged earlier in August and hosted two basketball camps.

After hosting a basketball camp in his native Sacramento, California, area, Wells brought a two-day camp to the Memphis Sports & Event Center from Aug. 15-16.

A Jalen Wells camp will be 'a Jaylen Wells camp'
Wells walked from court to court with a microphone in his hand and a whistle around his neck, engaging with children of all age groups.

Sometimes when players host camps, they’ll make an appearance for an hour or two and let their staffs handle the rest. Wells remembers that being the case when he was younger, so he wanted to make his presence.

“It’s really important for me to be here every single hour of the day,” Wells said. “… I don’t take lightly putting Jaylen Wells camp on a shirt. If it’s a Jaylen Wells camp, it’s going to be a Jaylen Wells camp.”

Wells is also the co-founder of Sleep Nation, an organization he uses to shine a light on players who may go a little more unnoticed than others.

Sleep Nation has been something Wells has been vocal about since entering the league. Many of its roots were planted in California, but Wells wants the organization to become more involved with Memphis athletes.

“I think Sleep Nation’s goal is to not only work on the athlete, but to build a better person,” Wells said. “Basketball can lead to so many different avenues in life. Being a good person not only on the floor but off the floor.”

Support from Cedric Coward, GG Jackson, Javon Small
Teammates Cedric Coward, GG Jackson and Javon Small made appearances during the camp. Coward addressed the group on Aug. 15.

Jackson was asked to do the same thing on Aug. 16, but he ended up doing that and more. He coached drills and even started refereeing 5-on-5 games.

Small arrived after Jackson had officiated a few games. Once Jackson saw his teammate, he asked Small to help him officiate. Like the point guard he is, Small was there to give him an assist.

“It kind of just shows what kind of team we have and what type of team we are building,” Wells said. “It’s a lot of young great guys that are hungry to win.”

Maximizing the offseason for Memphis Grizzlies
Wells is taking an all-around approach to improving his game for the 2026-27 season.

He mentioned becoming a more consistent shooter, getting more athletic, becoming stronger and developing as a secondary ballhandler. All of those are areas Wells has mentioned several times in the past as points of emphasis, but there was another notable addition to his offseason regimen.

“I think the one biggest weakness that I had was reading the pick-and-roll,” Wells said. “I think that’s something I really wanted to work on, and it’s something I’m kind of attacking.”

Wells has been tasked with taking and making pressured shots during his time in Memphis, but none compared to the process of proposing to his fiancée, Kaili Spooner, he said.

He managed to secretly plan the engagement without tipping his hand.

“It’s like fourth quarter, one minute left for the whole three weeks before (the proposal),” Wells said. “… It was a lot of pressure.”

Does 2k even try anymore?

Hard to figure out what the most ridiculous rating is here.

  • Spencer's 3pt rating < 90

  • Ced has a lower 3pt rating than Stewart

  • Ced has the same 3pt rating as GG

  • Omax has a better 3pt rating than Ced, Wells, and Grant

  • Edey has a 70 dunk

  • Edey has the same 3pt rating as Ced

[Hunterbrook] A group of Ukrainian civilians who were injured by Russian attacks have now filed a new federal civil suit against Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera’s company, Ubiquiti:

Hunterbrook:

> Update: A group of Ukrainian civilians injured by Russian attacks have filed a federal civil suit against Ubiquiti in the Southern District of New York.

> Ubiquiti is accused of ignoring warnings about their products in Russian military service.

DiCello Levitt

> U.S. Tech Company Ubiquiti Sued for Allegedly Supplying Russia’s ‘Human Safari’ Drone Kill Zone in Ukraine

> Communications Network Used to Hunt and Kill Ukrainian Civilians

> NEW YORK – DiCello Levitt LLP today filed a human rights lawsuit against Ubiquiti Inc., alleging the New York-based technology company helped power the battlefield communications network Russia uses to hunt, target, and kill Ukrainian civilians with drones.

> Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the lawsuit is brought by Ukrainian civilians and family members of civilians killed or injured in Russian drone and drone-assisted attacks. It alleges that Ubiquiti’s long-range wireless radio bridge antennas and airMAX technology became critical infrastructure in Russia’s command-and-control network — connecting drone pilots, reconnaissance feeds, commanders, and attack units in real time across a roughly 100-kilometer “kill zone” that Russian operators have turned into a “human safari.”

> “Russia’s occupation of Ukraine runs on networks. Without battlefield communications, drones cannot hunt, commanders cannot coordinate, and an invading army cannot turn civilian roads and neighborhoods into a kill zone. Ubiquiti’s technology provided Russia the bridge — and Ukrainian civilians have paid the toll,” said Scott Gilmore, a partner at DiCello Levitt known internationally for his work in human rights and lead counsel for the plaintiffs.

> The complaint alleges Ubiquiti’s products did not merely appear on the battlefield by accident. It alleges Russian forces rely on Ubiquiti radio bridges to extend communications across destroyed or degraded infrastructure, transmit live drone video, coordinate attacks, and sustain the digital “kill chain” used to identify and strike civilians.

> “This case is about corporate accountability for enabling crimes against humanity,” Gilmore continued. “A U.S. company cannot look away when its export-controlled technology is helping an invading army hunt civilians — especially when the company can see where that technology is operating and has the ability to restrict or disable it. Ubiquiti had notice, had the tools to act, and instead helped sustain the network behind Russia’s human safari.”

> According to the complaint, Ubiquiti was repeatedly warned that Ubiquiti devices were being smuggled into Russia and deployed by Russian forces in Ukraine. The complaint cites U.S. export-control restrictions, Russian import data, public reporting, Russian military statements, battlefield images and videos, and Ubiquiti’s own device telemetry. It alleges that after Russia’s full-scale invasion, exports of Ubiquiti products to Russia surged by more than 60%; Russian state media showed soldiers installing Ubiquiti antennas in occupied Ukraine; Russian military-linked sources described Ubiquiti equipment as essential to frontline communications; and Ubiquiti had location data showing where its devices were operating.

> The lawsuit further alleges that Ubiquiti continued providing firmware updates and technical support that helped sustain devices operating in Russia’s battlefield network. It also alleges the company could have disrupted the pipeline and disabled devices used by Russia — including through geofencing, terminating distributors tied to sanctions-evasion routes, and building a remote-disable safety feature into airMAX firmware — but failed to do so.

> The plaintiffs include Ukrainian civilians who were maimed, displaced, or forced to live and travel under drone surveillance, as well as family members of civilians killed in Russian drone attacks. The complaint describes attacks on families, first responders, and people using ordinary roads in civilian areas of Ukraine.

> In one attack, a Russian drone chased a married couple’s car in Kherson and dropped an explosive through the windshield, killing the husband and maiming his wife. The complaint alleges the Russian drone unit later published the attack video online. In another attack, a firefighter responding to help a colleague was hunted by a drone and grievously wounded. In another, an energy worker was killed in a double-tap drone strike as colleagues tried to rescue him.

> The lawsuit asserts claims for negligent entrustment, public nuisance, strict products liability for design defect, negligent product design, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and aiding and abetting assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

> The case is Kovalenko et al. v. Ubiquiti, Inc., filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Case No. 1:26-cv-06838. The complaint is available here.

> The DiCello Levitt case team is led by Scott Gilmore and includes Ken Abbarno, Bobby DiCello, Greg Gutzler, Mark DiCello, Adam Levitt, Emma Bruder, and Nicole Arenth.
