Peyton Watson will make more than Cedric, GG, Jaylen, and OMax combined next year

The Peyton Watson deal has me thinking about the value the league is assigning to lanky 3 and D Wings.

As we’ve all pointed out, between Jaylen, GG, Ced, and OMax, we have a lot of these types of guys.

I like Watson a lot, and his breakout in December showed that right now, in this exact moment, he’s better than the guys I listed above. He’s taller than all of them besides GG, has a wider wingspan than Jaylen and GG, and has a better ppg than all of them.

But this is a year where all of those guys are out prove something, and there have been moments for each of those players that have shown that with a little bit of pressure any one of them can produce equal, if not better stats than Watson for a fraction of the price.

Peyton Watson ($22 mil): 14.6 ppg / 4.9 rb / 2.1 ast / 49.1 FG%

Cedric Coward ($6,001,080): 13.6 ppg / 5.9 rb / 2.8 ast / 47.1 FG%
OMax Prosper ($2,497,812): 10 ppg / 3.5 rb / 1 ast / 54.9 FG%
GG Jackson II ($2,406,205): 12.5 ppg / 4.3 rb / 1.5 ast / 49.6 FG%
Jaylen Wells ($2,296,271): 12.5 ppg / 3.2 rb / 1.6 ast / 43.1 FG%

Who do you think from these guys could get a payout similar to Watson on the open market?

Damichael Cole Interview with Jaylen Wells

For those stuck behind the paywall:

“Jaylen Wells is growing up fast in NBA years.
After two seasons in the league and several Memphis Grizzlies roster changes, Wells is already one of the longest-tenured players on the team.

The 6-foot-7 wing has played more games with the Grizzlies than any member of the current roster. Third-year players aren’t often expected to vault into leadership roles, but Wells is carrying himself like a player prepared for increased expectations.

It’s been a busy summer for Wells, who has averaged 11.4 points while making 143 career starts. He’s traveled, continued working to refine his game, got engaged earlier in August and hosted two basketball camps.

After hosting a basketball camp in his native Sacramento, California, area, Wells brought a two-day camp to the Memphis Sports & Event Center from Aug. 15-16.

A Jalen Wells camp will be 'a Jaylen Wells camp'
Wells walked from court to court with a microphone in his hand and a whistle around his neck, engaging with children of all age groups.

Sometimes when players host camps, they’ll make an appearance for an hour or two and let their staffs handle the rest. Wells remembers that being the case when he was younger, so he wanted to make his presence.

“It’s really important for me to be here every single hour of the day,” Wells said. “… I don’t take lightly putting Jaylen Wells camp on a shirt. If it’s a Jaylen Wells camp, it’s going to be a Jaylen Wells camp.”

Wells is also the co-founder of Sleep Nation, an organization he uses to shine a light on players who may go a little more unnoticed than others.

Sleep Nation has been something Wells has been vocal about since entering the league. Many of its roots were planted in California, but Wells wants the organization to become more involved with Memphis athletes.

“I think Sleep Nation’s goal is to not only work on the athlete, but to build a better person,” Wells said. “Basketball can lead to so many different avenues in life. Being a good person not only on the floor but off the floor.”

Support from Cedric Coward, GG Jackson, Javon Small
Teammates Cedric Coward, GG Jackson and Javon Small made appearances during the camp. Coward addressed the group on Aug. 15.

Jackson was asked to do the same thing on Aug. 16, but he ended up doing that and more. He coached drills and even started refereeing 5-on-5 games.

Small arrived after Jackson had officiated a few games. Once Jackson saw his teammate, he asked Small to help him officiate. Like the point guard he is, Small was there to give him an assist.

“It kind of just shows what kind of team we have and what type of team we are building,” Wells said. “It’s a lot of young great guys that are hungry to win.”

Maximizing the offseason for Memphis Grizzlies
Wells is taking an all-around approach to improving his game for the 2026-27 season.

He mentioned becoming a more consistent shooter, getting more athletic, becoming stronger and developing as a secondary ballhandler. All of those are areas Wells has mentioned several times in the past as points of emphasis, but there was another notable addition to his offseason regimen.

“I think the one biggest weakness that I had was reading the pick-and-roll,” Wells said. “I think that’s something I really wanted to work on, and it’s something I’m kind of attacking.”

Wells has been tasked with taking and making pressured shots during his time in Memphis, but none compared to the process of proposing to his fiancée, Kaili Spooner, he said.

He managed to secretly plan the engagement without tipping his hand.

“It’s like fourth quarter, one minute left for the whole three weeks before (the proposal),” Wells said. “… It was a lot of pressure.”

Yaxel after getting followed by a user named CamBoozerFan on stream

I think we have a new rivalry for this generation between us and GSW. This one carries over from college like magic and Bird but this time it’s a bitter 25 year old hating on a 19 year old

Jared Kushner’s brother Josh buying the Lakers with former Disney CEO Bob Iger

Relevant to us because fuck the lakers, but also because they were originally going to make a move on the Vegas expansion team. So I wonder if expansion is going to be delayed or if some other sketchy billionaire is going to take over that franchise.

Theres been talks of us and/or the Wolves moving east post expansion so these moves matter to our rebuild timeline, especially once an expansion draft occurs.

What do you think are the immediate impacts of losing these two?

Hey, not a wolves fan, so don’t crucify me for asking, but Ant is my favorite player in the league and I’ve watched tons of games over the years.

I think you guys have the biggest question mark in the west next season. Like this could be the year the wolves win it all and Ant averages 30+. But as frustrating as Randle can be, he had some great moments defensively and offensively. Same for Naz.

Can you explain to me like I’m 6 years old what the immediate impacts of two pivotal players like them moving off the roster will be?

What are you the most nervous about next season?

Obviously we should all have optimistic but low expectations about this season and the next few or so, but with all the mystery box hype for next season, I want to hear what the real concerns are for the future of this team.

Southeastern Teams only for Preseason Schedule

This would make for a decent up and coming divisional rivalry in the event we were moved east following expansion.

I know the twolves would be moved east before we would but still

Kenny Beecham defends the new look Grizzlies from Bleacher Report ragebait slop slander

This was from a recent video he did on the Kenny for Real channel reacting to the BR list ranking the starting 5 lineups this upcoming season.

I’m seeing it more and more but it seems like every basketball nerd online from Kenny to Zach Lowe to a Funky Diabetic and even Bill Simmons are pulling for the Grizz to be their favorite not very good team.

I guess that’s the Cam Boozer and Edey effect

Cedric Coward ranked #6 Most Interesting Sophomore in new ESPN List

As crazy as the incoming draft class is, this past one has some amazing talents and Ced is undeniably one of them. If that shot starts falling and the defense and rebounding keeps up he will definitely see an All-Star selection at least once or twice in his career

Future President of the United States announces plans to win a Championship

Everyone roasting Ced for a summer league game that he still put up 23 pts in and had a nasty block that resulted in points on the other end. The coaches are pushing him to build confidence in his shot same as they did with Wells last year. It’s gonna be ugly but unlike Wells he’s got what it takes to be a 20 ppg guy.

Don’t worry we’ll see plenty of Boozer takeover games in the regular season and across the next decade.
