Construction on Summit and Dale

This is just a rant, but WHY OH WHY would you rip up both the NW and SW corners of the sidewalk?! It makes it unsafe for pedestrians to get over to the west side of Summit.

Options for Swim Lessons - Not Foss

What other options have people used for swim lessons for children?

We've used Foss a few times now and the only good thing I can say is the class sizes are small. However, the things they are teaching my child seems deliberately done in order to try to get us to have to pay for more swim lessons and not necessarily to make him a better swimmer. I'll be happy to write out a detailed rant if anyone wants to hear, but for the money I'm paying, I can't say its worth it. I tried the free lessons the city gives and the class sizes are huge, my child got very little actual time with an instructor. It was good for them to get comfortable in the water, but they also made little to no progress. Just looking for any other options that people may know. Thanks in advance.

Best areas of St. Paul to live in?

Potentially moving to St. Paul this summer and I have 0 clue what areas of the city would be best to live in. Any suggestions would be awesome! Ideally somewhere with coffee shops and restaurants are a plus and that’s also safe. Thank you!!

Anybody tried the new pizza/cocktail spot in the new building on W. 7th?

It's called Pizza Maya. Seems like this place occupies one of three business spaces in the new building. Don't know much about the building but it's cool they built a brand new retail space on W. 7th and got a tenant quickly!

Expanding our downtown

Hi all,

I went to the Saints Game yesterday and when I was leaving, I did feel like there was a ton of folks out and about down town. I think there was prom nearby and then a concert at Amsterdam. It made me wonder, what would people like to see in Saint Paul to make it more lively on a regular basis?

I’ve been wondering this question a lot so I’m curious if anyone has ideas. My reason for this question as I’ve had a new interest in how we can increase revenue and help reduce property taxes for residents but still maintain our city.

“Clean up” organizations downtown?

Maybe a stupid question, but I’m a relatively recent transplant from Indianapolis and I’ve noticed a handful of things that got me wondering:

Where I’m from there’s a community volunteer initiative called Keep Indianapolis Beautiful that operates in a similar fashion to the street crew St Paul has in place already - picking up trash, cleaning up graffiti, painting trash cans, etc. but they also help out with landscaping in all of the public green space around the city that goes untouched because it “belongs” to abandoned properties or just isn’t kept up with very well by the city due to funding or staffing issues. They plant trees/flowers, help start up community garden initiatives, trim bushes, and even help plow sidewalks and rake leaves when the seasons change.

There are quite a few spots I can think of where it seems like the street crew and landscapers just… don’t really touch. I’m assuming that has a lot to do with the homeless population and decisions to utilize funding for upkeep & beautification elsewhere, but I’d really like to join up with a volunteer org that works to help maintain those areas - partly because I live in one of them and also more generally because I enjoy that type of work to keep my hands busy.

I’ve noticed a group of older ladies that tend to hang out around Mears park, helping plant the new flowers and clean it up. And I know there are a few “friends of” volunteer groups that help with the upkeep of various features around the city. But I was wondering if there was anything similar to KIB that works not only on the parks but also on more general areas of the city that I might be able to join up with?

Thank you!
