Please Support a Great Local Reptile Shop in Columbus

I wanted to give a shoutout to DK Reptiles & Exotics (3408 E Main St, Columbus, OH).
I stopped by today, and the owner mentioned he’d recently been in a car accident that set him back. He also said he’s meeting with his landlord and isn’t sure what the future holds for the shop.
I’ve always appreciated having a local reptile store where you can get honest advice and see that the animals are genuinely cared for. It would be heartbreaking to lose another small business that’s been a resource for the reptile community.
If you’ve ever shopped at DK Reptiles & Exotics, consider stopping by to pick up feeders, supplies, or anything you’ve been meaning to buy. Even sharing your positive experiences in the comments could help bring more people through the door.
Small businesses like this depend on community support, and I hope we can show them some love during a difficult time. 🦎🐍❤️

Trans person assaulted for being Trans.

On July 4th around 2:30pm my sister Sakuna Latham was trying to put out a pile of mulch that had caught fire behind her house. While trying to put it out 6 men called her a, "faggot" and verbally berated her as she tried to put out the fire. Upon trying to put out the fire they threw her to ground and physically stomped her out. I've taken her to urgent care and helped them gather information.

The following day July 5th, after we spoke to the police we walked behind the house to see the same people who accosted her and got them on camera admitting to it continuing with the homophobic slurs and threw rocks at us.

Shit like this isn't okay and people like this need to be held accountable. The video is of the people in question.

Discussing a genuinely hard question tomorrow at Honest Friend Brewing: why do we believe things we can't prove and how do we decide who to trust when we can't verify the facts ourselves?

Not a rhetorical question. It's the topic for a Sip Salon tomorrow in Columbus.

Here's the thing: pretty much every belief we hold: in scientific consensus, in institutions, in religious or spiritual ideas, in our own gut feelings requires us to trust something we haven't personally verified. We can't replicate the climate studies ourselves. We can't personally confirm the germ theory of disease. Most of us take on faith that the earth is roughly 4.5 billion years old because the people who study it say so.

So what actually separates reasonable trust from blind faith? And how do you know which one you're doing at any given moment?

The Sip Salon format is: read two short articles at the event, then gather for a discussion. No lecture, just a facilitated group conversation. The articles for this one are genuinely interesting one covers the cognitive science of why religious belief may be a byproduct of ordinary brain functions rather than pathology (turns out the same wiring that helped early humans detect predators also primes us to see "agents" behind unexplained events), and the other is a philosophy piece on the difference between something being false and someone being dishonest, which matters more for how we navigate information overload than most people realize.

It's at Honest Friend Brewing on July 6 from 6-8 PM. Two hours, drinks available, about 10-15 people usually. The format consistently produces the kind of conversation most of us don't get to have nearly enough.

Register here, it's free: https://www.simpletix.com/e/sip-salon-why-do-we-believe-things-we-can-tickets-276022

The Quarry Apartments

I wish I had paid more attention to the negative reviews before signing my lease.

I moved in recently and have already had one of the worst renting experiences I've ever had. I've dealt with major maintenance issues, including my A/C not working during extremely hot weather, leaving my apartment around 90°F. Getting updates or even reaching the office has been incredibly difficult, and I've repeatedly been told repairs were coming only for nothing to happen.

The lack of communication has been just as frustrating as the maintenance problems. Calls often go unanswered, and getting clear information has been nearly impossible. Instead of feeling like my concerns were taken seriously, I felt ignored.

I'm sharing this because I don't want someone else to make the same mistake I did. If you're considering renting here, read the recent reviews carefully and do your research before signing a lease. My experience has been that once you've signed, getting issues addressed can be far more difficult than expected.

Hopefully this helps someone make an informed decision.

"Planet 7 Smoke Shop" (S. High St.) Raided by Franklin County Sherrif's, Columbus Police, and Drug Taskforce earlier today.

Sorry for the poor quality images, took em from a distance.
Roughly 20 uniformed officers from varying agencies made entry into the building, contained all the staff and zip tied them to be held outside. Numerous boxes of merchandise were taken out, including large bags of weed, edibles, pre-rolls, drinks, and general smokewear (bongs, pipes, papers, etc).

White red and boom!

Hi Columbusions!

My family has lived in cbus for almost a decade and this is the first time we are watching the fireworks in downtown. I am so excited, def scared for the heat and the shenanigans that *could* go down.

I am not big fan of crowds.. is there any restaurants or areas that have good view to fireworks?

Happy 4th!

**UPDATE**!:
Ended up going! Found a sketchy lot, paid $4 and then walked to scioto for 10mins!
As soon as we got there the fireworks started. It was so pretty! 🫶🏽
Thanks guys!💙🤍❤️

From Westerville Progressive Alliance

WPA Friends:

Sherrod Brown and MS NOW are coming to Westerville Monday, and we’re invited to be part of this national exposure for our crucial Ohio Senate race!

MS NOW will be hosting a Meet & Greet with Sherrod, along with State Rep. Beryl Brown Piccolantonio (and likely other candidates) from 6-8 pm Monday, July 6.The location won’t be officially announced until 24 hours before the event, but we can tell you that it is on the Delaware County side of Westerville. In other words, right in our back yard.

So here’s the challenge for all of us: We want to pack the event with WPA members coming out in support of a race that truly could flip the entire U.S. Senate to Democratic control this November.

Here are the details we can share right now, along with a link to sign up:
What: MS NOW Meet & Greet with Sherrod Brown and Beryl Brown Piccolantonio
When: Monday, July 6, 6-8 pm
Where: The signup form merely says “Columbus, OH,” but we happen to know that it’s on the Delaware County side of Westerville

Signup: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8XwUWdiUCMPsR0M74...
This event is likely to reach capacity very quickly, so sign up now, and we’ll see you Monday!

Looking for advice on how to be a safety coord. From the pros !

Hi Redditors ! I have a question on how I get in a project management I come from a call center or data entry background and I would love to get a certification and doing something administrative wise on a construction field. I don’t have any background in construction and I wanna know how to get my foot into the door on being a project manager , or a safety coordinator role . It doesn’t have to solely be in construction. It can be anything but safety coordinator is something that I’m looking forward to. I am in the central Columbus Ohio area.
