Any others with chronic pain who are on PRN opioids?

Hello,
I just have a question. My provider is aware, that I’ve recently been prescribed one 5mg OxyCodone daily, for my severe pain. I take 1/2 of tablet as needed, up to the full dose most days. She informed me that it’s fine to take after SPRAVATO, but to not take 24hrs prior. I assumed it was due to sedation effects, but she actually informed me that it blocks the receptors and would make the treatment useless if I had needed to take less than 24hrs prior to my treatment. So, I make sure to not take it, but have had to cancel a few times due to not being able to handle the severe pain and needing to take my pain med. I obviously won’t be taking 24hrs before treatment, and will always cancel when I need to, but was just curious if other members who need to take pain meds also go through this? Thank you.

Stopping SSRI after 24 years… is this possible?

Hi, I’m 35 years old. I’ve been on dozens of different antidepressants over the past 24 years (SSRI, SNRI, TCA, etc. but never MAOIs). Also, ECT and IV Ketamine. Nothing has really worked. I’m doing SPRAVATO currently (have been for the past year). I asked to come off my antidepressant due to it not helping and to see what my baseline is off them after 20+ years.

I started my taper off 125mg Luvox 6 weeks ago. I’m currently on 25mg as of 3 nights ago. My provider had me go down by 25mg every 2 weeks. I’ll be on 25mg for the next 2 weeks, then go to 12.5mg for 2 more weeks, then stop.

I’ve had headaches and nausea during the process (which I had when I started and with every dose increase). My anxiety, OCD, depression have also fluctuated. But, they’ve been bad prior to the taper.

However, these past few days now I’m having symptoms of hands shaking, trembling.

Anyone else who has been on antidepressants for years and successfully gotten off, could you tell me what you experienced tapering off. I’m scared it’s not possible after never stopping an antidepressant once in 24 years…

Thank you!

Best latex free condoms for VERY SENSITIVE SKIN?

I’ve had a hysterectomy, and same partner.
Due to severe pelvic pain, vaginal atrophy and lichen sclerosis, I haven’t had PIV sex in years. I’d like to attempt again, but want to use a condom due to all those issues and being prone to UTIs (I also have a reaction to his sperm that unfortunately causes my skin to feel a burning sensation).
I used to use SKYN latex free, but heard that they’ve changed and there’s a scented material now? :/

Bad taste after permanent crown, going crazy :(

Hello dentists,

I had a root canal on #30 6 weeks ago (#29 and #31 were extracted a while back). This is my first root canal. I had the permanent crown placed 3 weeks ago. Since day 1 of crown placement I’ve had terrible gum pain around crown, and a bad taste in my mouth that won’t go away with brushing, flossing, mouth wash. I’ve been back to dentist twice. Had bite readjusted, then gums cut into around tooth to check for anything that may be under gums. Put on antibiotics, don’t think infection but gums very inflamed.

The pain and everything feels like the crown is digging into one area of my gum, but they took many photos and I’ve had a CBCT scan, and it all shows okay.

What could be causing this taste and ongoing pain?! I’m ready to just ask for the tooth to be extracted if I’m going to experience this pain and taste any longer.

Are Z packs effective for gum/tooth infection? Told it wasn’t by one dentist, and yes by another.

Hi dentists!

I was just prescribed the 5 day course of azithromycin for a possible infection in my gum, after my permanent crown placement of a root canal.

**RTC done a month ago, and was on a 7 day course of 200mg Cefpodoxime BID, prior to the RTC. The crown was placed 2 weeks ago, and been having 24/7 throbbing pain, even with bite checked and fixed.

The dentist who did the RTC said Z packs aren’t effective for tooth/gum infections. They aren’t in the office right now, so the dentist covering just sent this RX in. (I’m allergic to penicillin and sulfa).

So, I’m just confused. A quick google search said the Z pack works on gum and teeth infections, but just wanted to confirm with another medical specialist.

Thank you!! :)

Pain in gums 2+ weeks after permanent crown placed?!

Hello dentists!
I just need some help, reassurance. I’m no stranger to daily pain, but mouth pain is my limit, lol.

I had a root canal done last month on tooth #30.
2+ weeks ago I had the permanent crown placed. Since then, I’ve been having throbbing 24/7 pain in my gums in one area, and an off taste in my mouth. I went to dentist few days ago, they readjusted my bite. Said my gums were inflamed, but nothing infected. Said to take ibuprofen for the next 10 days. They also checked, no leftover cement causing it.
I’m getting so stressed and anxious. I’ve had mouth pain going on 2 months now from the pain before the procedure, healing from the RTC, and now this. (The pain had subsided a week before I got the permanent crown placed). It almost feels like something is pressing into a corner of my gums on one side of the crown, but my dentist said it’s not. I’m also seeing conflicting reports that I should be able to see the base of the tooth (which is the stained area). I’m also wondering if my gums are just super angry from the retraction cord that was placed while I waited 1+ hour for the crown to be created (they make them in office).

Anyone else take daily Ibuprofen & Acetaminophen?

I’ve been in chronic pain for years, and always took Ibuprofen and Tylenol. But, my pain has gotten severely worse the past 2+ years, and I keep a log of my daily meds. I’m basically taking the max daily dosage of both (sometimes less) almost daily. My bloodwork has been okay. I’ve read all the horror stories, and trying to get myself down on the daily use / off them.

Tried Tramadol but had horrible side effects (and I think was interacting with my antidepressant). Have muscle relaxers as needed. Doctor doesn’t want to prescribe narcotics yet (besides Tramadol or Suboxone?). I have zero history of addiction, don’t drink, and don’t smoke. Only relief I’ve had is 2.5mg oxycodone from ER.

I just need pain relief :( I’m sick of living like this.
Just had a nerve block yesterday (lidocaine only no steroids), that unfortunately didn’t work (was supposed to become numb and never did).

Three weeks ago I was eating a Brussels sprout, heard a crack sound, and started having jaw pain.

X-rays are normal, besides a tiny cavity on one of my top right molars, and bottom right molar.

My bottom right molar also has a tiny cavity (only one left - the other one was removed 6 months ago after a crack was seen). They did the endo ice test on the teeth, and on this one I barely felt it. I’m having jaw pain, and pain in cheek/temple.

Does this truly mean the nerve is dead? My dentist thinks it may be TMJ flare? But, the pain is pretty bad. Could the tooth that was removed next to it be causing me to not feel the cold test for several seconds?

▲ 2 r/TMJ

I’ve had TMJ for 20+ years. It flares up from time to time. It’s been pretty okay for a while.
Last week, I was eating a Brussels sprout, and heard a big crack sound. Thought the jaw pain was coming from a tooth. Went to dentist, x rays showed nothing. Having severe right side jaw pain, ear pain, temple and headaches. I’m also experiencing a salty, metallic, bad taste from that side.
Can this happen, and will it go away?
I’ve been taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen, and using ice for the pain.

Thank you.

I’m so sick of this. I’ve been dealing with this since a child, I’m 35 now. In therapy since 11. Have had a therapist and a psychiatrist since then. I’ve been on so many medications, tried basically every SSRI, been on SNRIs, TCAs, atypical antidepressants, mood stabilizers, benzos, etc… did 28 Ketamine IV treatments, 22 ECT treatments, and now 40+ SPRAVATO treatments.

I should be used to this. I have had thousand of panic attacks over the years. I’m 24/7 anxious. When I sleep, I’m anxious in my dreams.

I’m on a week + of a terrible flare of my panic. I’ve been dealing with a bunch of health issues that are causing severe, chronic pain. Endless doctor appts and specialists. I just needed to vent, and I just need one second of peace and rest. I just want to feel an ounce of relaxation for a second.
