Dolores Mock-up round 2: Wrinkles gone! :D

Huge huge thanks to u/Shalrak , you were absolutely right!

I followed the advice and seam ripped the seam boning channels, down to just the seams holding the shell together.

I then took in ~0.5cm from each seam (not included the busk or grommet seams) to total to ~1 inch taken in. Finally I put the channels and bones back in place and viola! Also got flat steel in for the back grommets.

It fits so so much better. The wrinkles still slightly appear when I hunch over a little (my default pose 💀) so this should help me keep my posture in check 😅

Any other critiques? Do y'all think I'm ready to move on to coutil? Thanks!!

First mock up of Dolores! Any diagnosis for the waist wrinkles?

Please excuse the wrinkles on the left bust, the boning poked through 😅 also the messy threads and sewing

This is made out of duck canvas I had lying around using Aranea Black's Dolores pattern. I'm pretty pleased with it so far but I want make this mock as wrinkle-free as possible before moving on.

It's all 6mm spiral steel because don't have access to flats yet for the back. I did use safety pins to close one end of the boning channels so the puckers on edges are probably because of that.

I suspect that the waist line is too high or something about the grain on the panels are off? Or possibly even because the two sets of boning in the back grommets are not flats? Maybe I laced it wrong?? What is life???

Very new to corsetry, so would like some expert opinion on this 🙂‍↕️🙏 Any other fit advice is more than welcome also!

Bust lines not matching up while walking seams. Aranea Black's Dolores pattern

The pattern has been height altered to the same length across all pieces and graded by following Aranea Black's tutorials. But the bust lines are not lining up consistently when walking the seams. Underbust and hip lines are fine. Picture is the front center and front middle pieces

Her walking seam tutorial doesn't seem indicate what to do in this case, from my understanding. Do I have to go back and alter the heights then grade again? 😭

Aranea Black's Dolores pattern using Mikado and cotton flannel fabric?

Hello! I was thinking about using the Dolores pattern using sewmii's method of construction. I really like how smooth and seamless her method looks and that it hides the boning (pictured on the right).

How she did it was Mikado fabric for the fashion layer, cotton flannel for the strength/boning layer, and another layer of Mikado for the lining. I believe she uses a mix of metal boning and plastic boning.

I know Dolores pattern suggests tightly woven, heavy duty fabrics for the strength layer, are the fabrics I intend to use too light? I don't have experience working with either 😅

Can a cobbler put this bag back together?

I just bought this really bag listed for really cheap as scrap material. I feel like it it's not unsalvageable though, the only major problem I see is possibly a missing strip of leather for the flap and some screws

I'm not a cobbler though so I'm here to ask would it be possible to put this bag back together? Would the cobbler be able to provide the extra strip of leather or would I have to source that myself?

I don't have the pieces in my possession yet but the seller has noted its flaws in the description (last slide)

Real leather backed by faux leather?

Was conditioning this bag and discover a lot of peeling on some of the back braided details. It seems like faux leather used as a backing for real leather? Is that a thing that bag manufacturers do?

I am fairly certain the outer shell is real leather because:

  1. It's an Isabella Fiore bag, a brand known for using real leather with intricate bag designs.

  2. I don't think it was popular enough brand for people to develop fakes

  3. I bought it from an older couple that have a lot of real leather products of their own.

  4. It looks and feels real on the outside, tho I'm no expert.

I just purchased these two beautiful leather bags on the left. The top is Coccinelle and the bottom is Isabella Fiore. But I would like to make the colors a bit darker.

Ive done a bit of research and found that for purses it's best to avoid dyeing. So the question is how dark can oil/conditioner/sunlight get these two?

I usually hunt around for sheet masks packs that are $1 or less each. These are the cheapest ones I've found yet!! 🤯🤯
