What is my maintenance?

What are signs of a calorie deficit for you? I am a 5’5 male, decent muscle mass, bike 8 miles a day, & strength 4 days a week. I move around a lot in the day usually along with my workouts. I also do yoga 5-6 days a week. Anyway, I am currently eating around 3k calories a day. I feel HUNGRY. All of the time. I feel weak in the gym and hungry. It’s to the point where the food noise is so bad I’m willing to just get fat and live more peacefully. Any advice? I eat mostly Whole Foods.

Malabsorption

Has anyone had issues with malabsorption on a vegan diet? What are your symptoms? I’m pretty positive this is happening to me so I’m going to go ahead and eat some fish

Meal frequency/schedule

I’m having a hard time fitting in all of the protein & calories that I need for my activity level. As of right now I eat 3 meals a day and sometimes some yogurt after dinner. How often do you guys who have high calorie and or Protien goals eat?

why am I so hungry?

Every since going vegan I have been extra hungry. I track my calories and I know that I’m eating more than before. Mostly Whole Foods, high fiber & protein , good on fats. I’m doing everything right. What am I missing? Does my body just need to adapt? Anyone else experience this? It’s really discouraging because I feel like my body is sabotaging my efforts to feel healthy as a vegan! Example of what I eat
Breakfast: large oat bowl with Protien powder, chia seeds, hemp seeds, nut butter, soy milk, & fruit
Lunch: tempeh blt on whole grain bread with vegan mayo
Dinner: some sort of hearty meal with beans &/or tofu, tempeh

Hitting around 3k calories & still hungry

Protien

How much protein do you aim for? I have been trying to hit around 150-160 grams a day (my body weight). I’m digesting it fine, but I feel extremely restricted in the meals I’m having. Is this a skill issue? Or am I aiming too high? I’m focused on Whole Foods so this amounts to a lot of tofu & tempeh. It’s worth noting that I am also an aspiring plant based chef. I feel like this Protien goal is kind of keeping me from creating more satisfying meals.

Fiber

Is 60 grams of fiber absurd? My maintenance is around 2500-3000 & I eat mostly Whole Foods. I feel a little gassy but but nothing too crazy. Should I lower it to a more recommended range?

Intuitive eating

How do you approach intuitive eating (if you do) as a vegan and athlete? I know it is the next step for me. I am tired of controlling my food and I just of just want to let go and focus on performance/ longevity. I know how to eat lots of Whole foods & Protien & I just want some tips in regard to bodily cues. I am autistic, I have tried intuitive eating before and it never seems to “work” for me. I always feel like I am either under or overeating.

How many workouts a week?

How many workouts are you guys doing a week? I’m currently doing 4, 15 sets per body part. My sessions are coming to be almost two hours long and I simply do not have the time. I don’t want to cut down on my volume so I’m considering splitting it into 6 days instead. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I feel like 4 days is a pretty average amount but it just doesn’t feel doable to me?

What are signs of overeating

Hello! I am newly vegan and just want some advice on portioning. I don’t track my calories but I know that I might need bigger portions than what I am used to on a vegan diet. However, I’m feeling an extra bloated recently and wondering if that advice is wrong? What are some signs that you guys get when over eating? I don’t want to track or weigh myself because I have a history of anorexia. I genuinely just want to feel good and fueled adequately.

Protien

How much Protien do u aim for? I am newly vegan but not new to fitness. I haven’t done much research but I’m getting the feeling that the massive pressure to eat 1gram per pound of body weight is a marketing scheme to push more dairy and meat consumption. The amount of animal products that I used to force feed myself is humiliating.

Advise from life long vegans

Vegans who are older and wiser than me, what is some advice that you have for young and new vegans? I am vegan with a couple months under my belt and I just want to know that it gets easier or more peaceful. I feel constantly isolated from the world due the prevalence of animal exploitation in our culture.

Supplements

What supplements do you take or recommend? I have been vegan for only a couple of weeks now. I eat mostly Whole Foods with the exception of one serving of protein powder & fortified plant milks (& vegan ice cream for balance) I track my food and have noticed that I literally double my targets in things like b vitamins & iron. Do I still need to supplement?

Cardio

Has any body cut down their strength training volume to incorporate more cardio? I have noticed I have been feeling sluggish & out of breath and I hate feeling that way, but I find it hard to fit in everything along with having a life/down time..

Whole Foods?

Hello! I am about two weeks vegan & I have questions abt what is going to make me feel my best. I’m currently eating mostly Whole Foods (besides a serving of protein powder). However, my life is very busy sometimes & it’s hard to prep consistently. Before veganism I sometimes relied on deli meat & yogurt to hit my Protien goals. Do you guys ever consume packaged proteins such as tofurkey? Or should I just keep on with my tofu, tempeh, lentils & beans?

Culinary school & veganism

Hello! I am a new vegan and also a chef. I have been doing my basics in culinary school and have one week left of these basic classes. After this week I will be switching over to the plant based classes that my school has to offer. I talked to my advisor about my decision and got scolded for “limiting my opportunities” focusing solely on plant based cooking. I thought this was just entirely inappropriate and I feel so angry. He also ignored my messages about switching over so I will be reaching out to the school today to ensure this happens. My original goal was to be a personal chef and that is the reason he gave for being so critical over my decision. He basically told me I’m going to ruin my career because I don’t want to cook with animal products? And that veganism was just a fad diet… I know these things aren’t true but I just wanted to share about this extremely frustrating experience. If I do not find success being a plant based personal chef, I will simply change my career path and find something that works. Vegan food truck, restaurant, possibilities are endless. People can be so extremely close minded.

Newly vegan, food ideas

Hello everyone! I am new to veganism and I have been into fitness for many years now. I’m having a hard time hitting the same Protien targets on a vegan diet so I’m just looking for some recs. Honestly, I miss my Greek yogurt so much. I am autistic, adversed to meat for awhile, and it was a massive safe food for me that aided me in hitting my Protien goals at the end of the day. I can do pretty well with my main meals as far as protein, but I would love to know what you guys are eating as far as high protein snacks or sweet treats ??
