Research poster acknowledgements - Doctor MD vs Doctor PhD

Working on a poster to present at a Canadian medical conference in October, what do I do for titles/designations both in the authorship and in the acknowledgement section?

I have my masters, and another author has her PhD, do I put our qualifications behind our names on the author line or not? And would it be just our degree qualifications or also our designations (RN, NP, etc)?

In the acknowledgment section we have a mix of medical doctors and PhD’s. Do I use Dr. First Lastname for everyone, or just the MD’s and use First Lastname PhD for those that it applies to?

I want to make sure I am being respectful while also following the rules!

Grafting lace

Knitting friends - I Kitchener stitched some lace together!
Can you see the line? A little bit.
Did I possibly twist some of my stitches? Also yes.
Do I care? Not enough to redo it!
Grafting itty bitty lace weight alpaca on itty bitty lace weight needles (2.25mm/sz1) while relatively maintaining tension is a win I will take 7 days a week.

I had cast on both pieces using a provisional cast on with my interchangeable needle cable, and some of the stitches were loaded imperfectly. And then the first row in both directions involved some k2t/ssk which made the live stitch below look twisted when it really wasn’t so I think I ‘fixed’ twists that didn’t really exist. But this is a test piece for a possible larger Shetland lace project in the future so some good learning!

Going to block the whole thing before deciding how much longer to make it. Hoping to wear it on my trip to Scotland in a few weeks.

Support for my little kid

My daughter is 8 years old and has had never had a dry night despite potty training her at 2, but then started having bladder leaks too when she started kindergarten. It has gotten worse despite many different toileting strategies and pelvic floor physio. She never complained of burning or weird fevers so a UTI never crossed my mind. Sent a sample off in May just because we had tried everything else and it was positive. Within three weeks she was positive again. We were recently referred to a pediatric nephrologist who specializes in bedwetting and bladder leaks. He thinks she’s had a uti for years based on her bladder wall and symptoms. She did a 10 day course of keflex and wants her to stay on a daily dose for 3 months at least (3 weeks into that so far).

Please help my mom guilt for letting this go for years without treating her. I feel absolutely terrible that if this had just been managed she could have been saved from so many complications and embarrassment. I’m a nurse so I feel like I should have known better. I also know that this will be an ongoing issue she is now going to need to manage for the rest of her life which is just super unfair and I feel devastated.

She’s also started having diarrhea from the antibiotics and since her pelvic floor is an absolute disaster this has led to bowel leaks too which she is deeply embarrassed by. I worry about her going to the pool or the splash park - she’s supposed to go to sleepaway camp in two weeks and I am so anxious about it. Just left a message with the doc to see if she needs a req for c-diff.

Anything you all can point me in the direction of to help support her, or any strategies you have to manage this would be greatly appreciated.

Where is this from?

Out at my uncles farm in rural Canada and came across these rounds in an old tobacco tin. I know they are British 303 but is there anything else anyone knows about them? I can read 1943, VII, and some other weird symbols. One of the bullets is painted red, maybe a tracer? There were family members who fought in the war so definitely could have been from them.

Investing on behalf of kids

My parents want to give each of their grandchildren a sizeable chunk of money (100k) to help with post-secondary, or a down payment, etc. when they are older. They do not want to tell the kids that this money is coming as they don't want them living expecting this windfall when they turn 18, they want it to be a nice surprise and trust us as the parents to decide when is the right time to give them the money. Obviously it makes sense to invest the money between now and when they get it, as my kids are still in elementary school. They want to give us the money now as they are facing some health challenges and don't want it to be part of the will/estate.

From a tax perspective, what is the best way to do this? A formal trust seems expensive, and the cost of management may eat any investment returns. An informal trust account will pass over to the kids when they turn 18 from what I've read. I don't really want to be paying tax on this account as the money is not really for me, but that might need to be the best option to meet my parent's criteria? My TFSA's are currently maxed out. The kids already have healthy RESP's, but how does it work if I put the money there and they end up not needing it for school?

Any thoughts on the best way to go about this? Any other options I haven't thought of?

Merge with Banff Subreddit

Petition to merge the Banff subreddit with r/Redditlake:

Seeing as 4 of the first 10 posts in the Banff subreddit are photos of Redditlake, and two additional posts are asking/complaining about how to get to Redditlake, I think they should just merge at this point. Because we all know the only thing worth seeing in Banff National Park is Redditlake! 😆

In all seriousness, I love Moraine Lake and go up the road multiple times a year (usually on skis). I was watching some family video from a visit in the 90’s and there were only about 15 cars in the parking lot, despite the time stamp saying it was noon in mid-July! It’s a little weird knowing that this lake is now internet famous and not just a local gem anymore.

Obligatory photo of the lake, and one from a cross country ski on the road this past winter (you can’t actually go all the way to the lake due to a big avalanche zone)

Tiny crochet hook brand for beading

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation on what hook brand is the best for beading with 8/0 beads. I got a set of really small ones off amazon, and despite saying they are size 0.5mm hooks, only one of them works for my miyuki 8/0 beads (I like having a few hooks loaded with beads at a time so I don't have to keep dipping into the pot which slows me down). My favorite thing to knit is beaded lace shawls, and usually I use 6/0 beads, but sometimes will use 8/0 beads for contrast (little burgundy ones in the photo).

Smallest research poster font size in PowerPoint

Making a poster for presentation at a conference later this summer in PowerPoint. If I want my finished poster to be the usual 36x48, and the smallest font about 22 on the finished poster, what does translate in font size according to PowerPoint? I know I could probably do the math but I’m an arts major doing qualitative research so forgive me 😆

My 12yo is starting dryland soon and this year they want them to have a GPS and HR watch. Any suggestions on what would fit a very skinny wrist and not cost me two arms and a leg?

Doing my annual P&P read through and was struck by how insightful Lady Catherine is when in the garden with Elizabeth.

“I have not been used to submit to any person's whims. I have not been in the habit of brooking disappointment.”

She is (likely unintentionally) very self-aware in this moment. The shock of someone not being immediately obsequious to her every demand has rattled a bit of truth out of her mouth.
