Data recovery companies are expensive… but now I understand why

I used to think recovery services were overpriced until one of my drives failed with years of family photos on it.

Spent two days trying recovery software before realizing the drive had physical issues. That’s when I started looking into professional labs like Werecoverdata.

After reading more about clean rooms, damaged platters, donor parts, and recovery processes, I kind of understand why these services cost what they do. It’s definitely more complicated than running basic software scans.

Anyone used WeRecoverData for a failed external hard drive?

My 2TB external drive suddenly stopped showing up yesterday and I honestly thought all my work files were gone. Spent hours trying random YouTube fixes before realizing I was probably making things worse.

Started searching around and saw a lot of people mentioning Werecoverdata for serious recovery cases. Their process actually looked more professional compared to some sketchy recovery websites I checked.

Still deciding what to do, but curious if anyone here has used them recently for hard drive recovery?

Are we overestimating how quickly AI capability turns into real productivity?

I’m not questioning whether AI models are powerful. They clearly are.

But I’m starting to question whether people underestimate the distance between “capability” and “productivity.”

A model can produce a good answer. But productivity in the real world often requires persistent context, judgment, tool access, process knowledge, responsibility, and integration into messy human systems.

This seems especially important in the AGI discussion. Even if a model becomes extremely intelligent, does that automatically mean it can function as a productive worker inside a company, team, or market?

Maybe the missing layer is not intelligence itself, but something like:

- workflow ownership

- reliability

- memory and context

- tool integration

- accountability

- ability to handle ambiguity

- economic alignment with business outcomes

So I’m curious: are we overestimating how fast AI intelligence becomes real productivity?

Where do you personally see the biggest gap?

i think people misunderstand what ClarityCheck actually is

ngl i originally thought ClarityCheck was just another sketchy “random charge” site after seeing people complain about it online 😅

but after looking into it more, it actually seems more like one of those ongoing reverse lookup/background info services where you check numbers, emails, spam info, public records stuff, etc.

i think a lot of people (me included at first) assume it’s a one-time lookup thing, then forget they signed up for a subscription after the cheap trial ends

i even checked the signup flow myself because i expected it to be shady, but the pricing/subscription part was there during registration and they emailed the account details afterward too

honestly thought canceling would be a nightmare, but it was pretty simple. just went through their help page: https://claritycheck.com/help/

answered a couple bot questions, canceled it, got the confirmation email, done

feels like a lot of the “they scammed me” posts are honestly just people forgetting about the subscription later on rather than actual fraud

An AI paid video tool thing. Open to everyone

Hey. I made this tool that generates videos of people talking using AI. You type some text and it gives you a video of a person saying it. Kinda wild honestly. Just opened this up as a little project. How you make money. You can earn by doing some tasks. Up to 200 bucks a day. This tool is useful for content creators, marketers, people who need videos but don't want to be on camera. That's the pitch. You just need a Reddit account that's not brand new. Or a few followers somewhere else. Dashboard shows your clicks and earnings live. No hidden fees. No minimum payout. Open to anyone anywhere. Not US only. Check it out here https://deepundress.app/affiliate Everyone is welcome to join

Why I haven't taken profit on $EUV yet

$EUV is performing well since launch and I think the thesis is still early innings.

The equipment layer of the semiconductor supply chain is the cleanest way to play the AI buildout without picking chip winners. ASML has a multi-year backlog. Every new fab announcement is another order for EUV machines.

Still holding the full position.

Quietly added $EUV to my portfolio - sharing the supply deficit angle

The export control angle on $EUV doesn't get talked about enough.

ASML was already restricted from selling advanced EUV machines to China. That makes their technology even more strategically valuable for western-aligned fabs. US, European, and Japanese fab expansions all run through ASML.

Structural tailwind that isn't going away. Long $EUV.

I spent a week convinced MyIQ scammed me. I was wrong and embarrassed

It turned out that there is a recurring charge from MyIQ, but it took me a minute to figure out what was going on.

In a hurry to pass a couple of tests at the site, I completely forgot about this, saw that the subscription got renewed automatically, and said to myself, ""Oh great, another scam site.""

But in fact, I did not check out anything on the website before going to various forums and convincing myself that I have been scammed.

But after returning to the website, I realized that all information about subscription and renewal processes is provided openly there. The deal I signed up to was a $1 trial offer that automatically turns into a $14.99 monthly subscription in case of further usage of the service.

There is also a help/cancellation page on the website that I have not checked earlier: https://myiq.com/help/

Moreover, they have a helpful bot that will guide you through the entire cancellation process.

So, as it turns out, nobody scammed me there, I simply did not manage to pass my own reading comprehension test before taking an IQ one 😅

X430 handles my lawn really great. Now need some customization advices :D

I received my Navimow X430 few weeks ago, i bought this one mainly because I have quite a bit of thick grass, and also a couple sloping parts in my garden that always upset me when using the old setup. It has been doing better than I was expecting so far. It grips the slope preceptively, and so long as it is not digging up the grass when turning. Now I thought it'd be amusing if I turned it into a mini race car. Maybe something like this image. I made AI mockup to see if the idea looks good on screen. Has anyone here wraped a robot mower before?? Mostly just curious if they cause any problems with sensors, heat, cleaning or durability over time?

Use.AI - what exactly is it, how much does the subscription cost, and how do you actually cancel it?

But everyone kept referring to use.ai without any information on what exactly this product does, aside from being AI platform.

Finally, once I noticed the billing process started after subscription expiration, I decided to explore what is this product.

The thing is, there is no actual single AI tool. Rather, it seems to be a subscription-based workspace, where one gets access to multiple AI services.

Having got this figured out, I started understanding the pricing scheme.

The plans available are:

  • about ~$1 trial plan
  • $29.99 each 28 days for the monthly plan
  • $129.99 each 28 days for the power plan
  • $49.99 each 84 days for the quarterly plan

This looks more like a recurring SaaS payment than any product one could buy for $X amount of money.

Speaking of cancellation, it seems to require a series of steps. One goes to help center: https://use.ai/help/

After that, a bot will ask a series of questions regarding the cancellation procedure and send you an e-mail confirmation.

On the whole, after grasping the positioning of the product, the entire service became more recognizable as an AI space subscription system.

New home, settled in, and someone already approves

So we finally moved into our new home after getting all the deep cleaning and setup done. It's been suuuuper satisfying seeing everything take shape. My husband and I put a lot of thought into picking out the furniture and finishes — we really wanted the space to feel warm, grounded, and one of a kind. Looks like he approves too! He's just been chilling in that room like it's been waiting for him this whole time

Hey guys. i am trying to figure out which exchange is best for perpetual futures. My current setup is split between different exchanges for spot and futures. I've find one for spot, but still looking for another for perps. my main priorities are strong security and reasonable fees. decent liquidity and no history of locking people out are also needed. I've researched a few exchanges that are good at this, like okx, bydfi, and mekc. do any of you have experience trading perps on these places? or are there any better options out there. tia!

i’m officially done with international shipping. waited 5 weeks for my last order only for it to get snagged by customs at the last minute. it's just not worth the stress anymore.

i’m looking at staying domestic from now on even if it costs a bit more for the convenience. i found opticlabs au while searching through some old threads and their shipping times to melb seem pretty solid from what i’ve read. does anyone have a preferred domestic source they’re using lately or are we all just using the same 2 or 3 local vendors now?"

I’ve been looking more closely at how small businesses set up their online presence, and something feels off. A lot of setups end up using a mix of tools for: hosting website building email basic automation and then Google Business Profile separately Individually, each tool makes sense. But combined, it often turns into a fragile system. The issues I keep noticing aren’t even advanced problems just things like: email randomly breaking due to config issues unclear ownership of domains/DNS tools overlapping in functionality but not actually integrated business owners not knowing which platform to troubleshoot when something goes wrong It feels like we’ve taken something that should be straightforward and turned it into a mini stack that needs ongoing maintenance. I’m curious how others here are thinking about this: Are you leaning toward more all-in-one setups, or still prefer stitching together best-in-class tools? And for those building SaaS do you think there’s still room to simplify this layer, or is fragmentation just the tradeoff for flexibility?

Feels like everyone and their cousin is reselling the same few panels now. You see the same names everywhere, MoreThanPanel, JustAnotherPanel, and a couple others. Which makes me wonder… if everyone’s using the same backend sources, how do you even stand out anymore? At this point it almost feels smarter to find some smaller hidden panel with solid quality before everyone jumps on it.

If you were starting from zero today:

  • low budget
  • need decent margins
  • stable delivery
  • long-term growth potential

Would you go with the big trusted names or try to find an underrated hidden gem early? Curious what people here would actually do.

came across the Hint app and it pointed out a few personality traits related to communication. Nothing too deep, but it got me thinking about how I might be perceived by others without realizing it.

Since then, I’ve started noticing small habits in the way I talk and react that I never paid attention to before. Now I’m not sure if the app actually knows anything meaningful, or if it just triggered some self-reflection.

Has anyone else tried something like this? Curious to hear your experience.

ravin sits at the top of the crossbow price tier and the accuracy and speed claims are impressive on paper but in a category where marketing tends to run well ahead of real-world performance I want to know if the experience matches the spec sheet. The HeliCoil technology sounds genuinely different but different doesn't always mean better for a hunter's actual use case. For people hunting with a ravin, does the accuracy advantage translate to real confidence at distance in field conditions, and how is the maintenance situation compared to something like a TenPoint or Barnett?
