Intermittent fault on power circuit

Hi guys, I’m a newly licensed electrician looking for some advice on an intermittent fault.

Yesterday, I installed a new AC circuit and relocated a 15 A weatherproof GPO for a hot water system for my mates tiny home. Powered on all fine, no dramas.
He has a sub board in the tiny home and the MSB about 20m away.

This morning, he woke up to the POWER circuit RCBO tripped at the sub-board. After resetting it and the supply, it tripped again, and the 63 A three-phase main breaker at the MSB also tripped. The 63 A breaker has only tripped once; since then, it’s been the same POWER RCBO tripping intermittently.
The circuit supplies the kitchen fridge and laundry power points. I IR-tested active-to-earth and neutral-to-earth at 500 V DC and got over 5 MΩ, but after looking into it, the circuit neutrals were still connected to the neutral bar, not sure if that matters? Also the new AC circuit and relocated GPO aren’t supplied by the circuit that’s tripping.

After IR testing both the installation and appliances with results that pass, I decided to swap the RCBO of the power circuit that’s was tripping with a new one, just in case it was a faulty breaker, then put everything back together and left The washing machine and dryer running for about halfa without issue.
However, later the owner switched on the exhaust fan on a separate lighting circuit and the POWER RCBO tripped about a second later.

What would you investigate first? Could this be an intermittent appliance fault, a neutral issue, or something else? How much confidence would you put in those IR readings given the test setup? I’m at a loss here. Not sure what to test next.

Adding AC to tiny home

Hey guys,

Wanting to install AC to family friends tiny home. However sub board has no more room left. So they want to upgrade the sub board enclosure to a bigger size to fit another breaker.

Sub mains are run in 6mm underground.
They have:
- 9 double gpos
- 4 down lights
- 3600 w Hot water system
They also have a 15 gpo which is for the HWS, so I it’s not included in the calculation, just the hws.

According to my calculations that’s 33A max demand
The 6mm cable has a 50a ccc(20m run, excluding voltage drop)

I’m sort of confused about picking what size ac to recommended to them. As they only have about 7amps “left” if I upgrade the main switch for sub board and isolator to 40a. Even a 2.5kw splitty would bring the max demand up to 42amps, which would breach the In<In<Iz rule. Maybe I could upgrade the isolator to a 50a, but then the cable is at its limit with no buffer?

Freshly qualified so happy to take any advice onboard

Japanese whiskey

Hey guys,

Finishing up a Bikepacking trip in Japan. Will be in Tokyo for a few days before heading back to Australia. Want to get my father and brother in law a bottle of whiskey. We drink along the lines of gentlemen jack, makers mark and Woodford reserve.
Any recommendations similar to them or even ones that are a little out of that would be really appreciated! Thanks 🙏
Also would it be cheaper if I buy them in Sapporo?

Takayama to Matsumoto cycle

Hey guys,

Looking to get to Matsumoto from takayama. The norikura is closed to bicycles, only buses and taxes allowed. I really want to go this way. Is there any way i can take bus that stops at the summit and then goes to Matsumoto? I can pack my bike into a rinko bag, will that be fine on a bus with luggage storage?

Rear tyre is now hitting frame

Hey guys, I'm currently on a bike packing trip across Japan and I've always noticed that my rear tire has been closer to the left side of the frame than the right and then now it is starting hit the frame and rub on it. See pics attached. I'm wondering what causes this and how do I go about fixing it? The dropouts sit on top of the axle, so can’t move it to adjust.

Selling bike in Japan

Hey guys,

Currently Bikepacking across Japan with my 90s Nishiki Colorado. I will be finishing up around early to mid July in either Sapporo or Tokyo. Would anyone know where I can sell it in Japan? Or if anyone is keen for themselves.

Thanks

Strava activity not correct when sharing route image

Hey guys,

Just trying to share my recent Strava image on the socials but every time I go to save image. The route is just never in the right position and it just ends up in the water. See the attached pic of what I’m talking about and what it should look like. Any idea how I fix this

Hey guys, I’m planning to cycle across japan in the next few weeks. I might get absolutely rinsed for this but I’ve never done such a thing before, but im young and fit and love pushing my body and mind to depths of pain (it’s not a kink). I also have the privilege of time, so im in no rush once I start, other than the 90 day visa.

Originally, I was planning on just getting hotels/guesthouses to sleep in, but I’ve been weighing up camping. I haven’t got the gear for it yet nor done camping this way before. I’m trying to save as much money as possible while I do this but I know I wouldn’t camp 100% of the time. Maybe I would try aim for a 60/40 split, in favour of camping. The whole setup would set me back around $600 aud for a decent setup off marketplace. Do you guys think it’s worth it, with the price and extra weight, etc.

Thanks in advance, please don’t rinse me for doing this. I’m doing the length of Japan regardless. And see the pic for the bike I’ll doing he journey on (minus the equipment lol)
