We all know earnings are dropping and that the platforms are constantly squeezing us. But as an economics student researcher, I’m trying to go a step further: I want to mathematically prove exactly how these apps use hidden trip destinations, opaque pricing, and short countdown timers to panic us into accepting low-ball orders just to protect our metrics. The companies use our own behavioral data against us to find the absolute lowest wage we will take before logging off. I call this the "Monopsony of One" where the app isolates you on your screen so you can't see what anyone else is making. I'm an economics student doing a research project to mathematically prove how these interface tricks force drivers to work below their baseline reservation wage and isolate us. The goal is to build an actual academic dataset exposing how these platforms use monopsony power to manipulate our choices.
