I built a free & open-source alternative to Connecter and Eagle for Archviz (.max, .rvt, .skp) – OpenDAM
Hey everyone,
Like many of you working in archviz and 3D studios, I was frustrated with proprietary asset managers forcing monthly subscription fees, running slow over office NAS shares, or Windows Explorer showing blank white icons for `.max`, `.rvt`, and `.skp` files.
So I built **OpenDAM** — a 100% free, local-first Digital Asset Management tool designed specifically for architecture and 3D pipelines.
Key Features:
- Visual previews for .max, .rvt, .rfa, .skp, .dwg, .vrmat, .exr, and textures.
- Spacebar Quick Look: Hold spacebar on any asset for an instant high-res preview overlay.
- Interactive 3D Viewport: Real-time orbit/inspection in the detail panel.
- NAS-Safe Architecture: Self-contained `.opendam/library.sqlite` directly in shared folders. Batch transactions protect network storage from I/O lockup.
- 100% Free & Open Source (MIT) — No per-seat fees, zero telemetry.
Tech stack: Tauri v2 + Rust + React + Three.js.
