Viking console restomod

Inherited a 1960s Viking stereo console (old Canadian brand sold out of Eaton’s, a big department store). I love the look of the furniture piece and want to equip with more modern equipment (turntable, amp, and Bluetooth functionality).

I’m not an audiophile so don’t need top of the line, but I do enjoy listening to great music loud.

I really want to diy this as much as possible but I know nothing of nothing when it comes to audio equipment. A local shop can do it but ball parked me at $1000 over the phone.

Curious to get the group’s thoughts on what your recommendation is. I’m comfortable learning new things and trying, but I need resources to help me do it right.

Viking Console

Previous owners of home left this behind. I have zero knowledge of electronics. Doing research, this seems to have been a brand a Canadian big box retailer sold back in the 50s-70s.

When I plug in the turntable, the platter spins. Haven’t tried playing anything on it yet.

What am I in for here? I love the look of the console, would love to restore the electronics if possible but also considering retrofitting more modern tech if that will lead to better quality sound at marginal cost difference.

Please help a noob out.

Backwater valve

What’s everyone’s take on installing a backwater valve? I’ve spoken to a few contractors and I’m getting conflicting recommendations on them. Some have outright said: “it’s a non issue in Pickering”.

Im unsure how to validate other than asking here. No wet basement issues whatsoever but contemplating doing it before finishing my basement.

Load bearing wall? How dangerous is this

Water proofing contractor needed to install dimple board on walls. He cut through what I think was part of a load bearing wall. Given that studs are mostly still there and it was just a section cut out, can I diy this fix?
