Working DT while trying to get your voice back is soooo difficult sometimes.

Oh, and I was even more peeved when some of the drivers were too far away from the speaker so they couldn't hear me, forcing me to speak louder and hurt my throat more 😡. On the bright side, the other girl was nice enough to take the busier lane for the day because I couldn't imagine how much my throat would've hurt otherwise. I feel a lot better than I sound, but I can also use any tips to help clear my voice if any of you have been through similar.

In lieu of my previous post about my perspective as a former deli employee, I just barely learned that one of the storeside managers is a sexual abuser.

Would anyone here know of any organizations that can help me transport clothes & food I need to donate soon?

I don't own a vehicle and I have a large amount of clothes, a couple of light furniture pieces (I still have the assembely instructions that come with them also), and some non-parishable food. None of the few friends I have own a vehicle either. I just don't want to toss any of it in the rubbish if someone else can still use it.

A Perspective From A Former Deli Employee

First off, I was slightly surprised how easy it was to get hired at the location I was at. Sometimes, that can be a red flag. I started working with 3 other deli employees. Before I left, it was just me, one other deli worker, and two new hires who were not consistent with attendance. I'll touch on that later.

The severe communication inconsistencies with management negatively affected my objective of my job. Store side management was very disconnected with food management. SS management would tell me one thing and food management would tell me completely different ways to do my job. Even the two food managers I mainly worked for were not on the same page. One thing I hated about the deli kitchen is that there was a desk and computer in there. The food managers would spend hours behind that desk scrolling social media on their phones instead of helping their employees. It really upset me when they would DoorDash food and they would practically spend a significant amount of time shooting the shit with some other Subway employees while few of us were working as hard as we could to stay on top of things. Management would also have the nerve to tell me I needed to work on time manangement when I would often work the deli alone, prepping 120-200 food items per shift, doing 3-4 bakes, completing the daily backstock count on prepped food, doing dishes, sweeping and taking out 4 to 6 bins of rubbish in an 8 hour shift. I also got a write up for being over hours so I'm sorry for not only doing my job, but also picking up slack from storeside. There was this one younger girl who was scheduled as an overnight retail MOD and she was terrible. She would never waste food expired from the previous day in the cooler and the condiment station. I've also seen her commit so much health violations that OSHA would've shut us down if they reviewed our cameras. She is also responsible for deliberately not taking her younger sister to work. Her younger sister was a new hire for the deli and I did most of her training. Mind you, I'm wasn't even a manager but I have no issue training new hires. But it's the first time in my 9 years in the workforce I've had a trainee tell me, "You have taught me more than anyone else here." I really wish I would've had the courage to give her older sister a piece of my mind but I just ignored her whenever she wanted to talk to me about whatever. Her older sister would be intimidated by me whenever I had to correct her on stuff. She also liked to hit on some of the truckers she was ringing up and would spend hours talking to the security guard instead of doing her job.

Another new hire we had right before I left also didn't show up to her shifts. I only saw her twice. It really sucked when I looked forward to finally having new workers to help take the load off only to know at the last minute that they weren't coming in.

Back to the management. One of the food managers would always be passive aggressive whenever she wanted me to do something instead of just telling me to do it in a mature manner. Another food manager shared a security cam video to me of her slapping an old lady in the face when she used to work storeside. I've also seen both of the food managers get into a intense verbal arguement in the deli kitchen which gave me anxiety. One of the food managers went on vacation without placing any Sysco food orders in advance so while she was on vacation, we often were out of fruit, ingredients and plastic containers for the prepped food. I even worked two 11 hour shifts during that time she was on vacation, one of those 11 hour shifts without a break. One of the storeside managers who was also passive aggressive and didn't want to compliment employees because he believed, "You'll get a big head if I say too many good things about you", tells me and the other deli worker that our open air cooler looks bad. Well, that's because our DM gives the food managers 65 hours overall for deli employees and we have barely any ingredients. So me and the other deli employee were evenly split so we were working 32 hours a week, often going over hours because we spent most of our shift working deli by ourselves. I couldn't stand the DM because she always had a cold personality and never acknowledged any of the employees during her visits. Just plain rude vibes from her.

Now on to the day where I left. I took my lunch break from my job. I overheard one of the food managers complaining about the deli workers being over hours and that we need to get the entire prep list of 300+ food items, dishes, 3-4 bakes, backstock count, sweeping and mopping all done in an 8 hour shift, regardless if we were working back there by ourselves or not. I confronted the other food manager and asked her what the other manager was talking about. She raised her voice and said, "You guys need to clock out on time and not be over hours!" Well, now you don't have to worry about that anymore because that will be the last thing you tell me. Now let's see how you like being back there by yourself with all of the responsibilities. Maybe see if you can do better even though the product you put out on the sales floor is way more sloppy than mine. I hope you fail the scheduled inspection I no longer have to worry about and you struggle more than I did. I couldn't work for a worse Love's location. I've seen 18 ex-employees leave in the 6 months I was there. I wrote a 3 page letter to the store manager about the current state of affairs and nothing happened. The previous older overnight manager that switched to the new store as a food manager agreed with everything I said and even told me she will never work at the store I was at ever again. There was constant homeless people in and out of the store. Some homeless men sexually harrassing me while security was distracted. Never again at that location!
