Plus size women, share your tonsillectomy experiences please!

Hi! I am getting the surgery one week from today. I am female, 32, 5’1, 183 lbs. I am having the surgery done because my tonsils are literally ginormous. Every single doctor and nurse that has looked at them has audibly gasped and asked me if I can breathe and swallow, because one side is completely blocking the uvula. Like not even kissing, but crossing over 😳 I also have severe sleep apnea and snore. In addition to that, I get sick all the time. I had tonsillitis twice in the month of May, which has prompted me to move forward with getting them out.

I understand weight affects snoring. I am hoping that having them out will help somewhat and make my snoring at least a little quieter. I’m at the point right now where my husband and I sleep in separate rooms most nights. I do have a CPAP but I absolutely hate wearing it 😅 so most nights I just sleep in our guest room.

Just curious if anyone experienced a positive change in their snoring. I know it’s not going to be a magic cure, like I said, I know being overweight can make you snore as well. But would love to hear any positive stories, mostly everything I hear is that the recovery is awful. I’ve never had surgery before and I’m very scared lol

In need of a new lash tech!

My lash girl who I have been seeing for 5 years is moving to Florida :( so I am in need of a new tech. I do full volume extensions. I am in North Tonawanda, so it would be great if it were close to that area, but my current lash girl is in West Seneca, so I don’t mind driving if she’s great. I prefer to go to someone with their own business/home set up if possible instead of a nail salon type of place that also does lashes. Thank you!

Boots and Hearts

Has anyone ever gone to boots and hearts festival before? If I get there before/around noon to try to get a good spot close to the stage for the Jonas Brothers, do you think I’ll be okay or will people be getting there much earlier? 🤔

Private preschool teacher

Has anyone here ever been a private preschool teacher? Basically like a home school teacher in someone’s home working with their child/children on a daily basis. Or, any parents here ever had one work with their child? I am going through the interview process for a private preschool teaching position. It seems like a cool opportunity, would love to hear other people’s experiences with it. Good, bad, all of it!

How do I help this student?

Hi all, I am currently a SEIT (special education itinerant teacher). I work with 3 and 4 year old students and travel around to different daycares and preschools.

One of my kiddos (age 3, will be 4 at the end of the month) has VERY extreme behavioral needs. Without going into too much detail, him and his twin brother have gone through extensive trauma before they even turned 1 year old. They are in a wonderful adopted family now and the parents are incredible and literally angels on earth, no lie.

I began working with him in September. He is now at his 3rd daycare center due to behaviors (he was removed from the first center) and staff negligence (at the second center, he needs to be watched at all times, he will put things in his mouth and ingest them and he was being ignored).

In the classroom, he is extremely self directed. If the class is doing a craft or activity at the table or doing circle time, he is wandering around the room, pulling things out, climbing on furniture, trying to eat things (he has PICA), trying to elope out of the room, etc. I try to push in while I am there, but if he becomes too overstimulated I pull him out to the gym or an area where we can work and play 1:1. Even in a 1:1 setting, he is doing the same behaviors. I have also seen him at home, and he does slightly better at home, but still will leave the table, elope, put things in his mouth, etc.

I have noticed progress as far as his social skills with other kids. He has gotten better with using his words to ask to play, ask for toys, sharing, etc. But as far as other areas, mainly behavioral, I am still at a loss. I try to use visuals with him, I have tried token boards, star charts, first/then boards, etc where he can earn things that motivate him, which is usually a lion king song/video, a special snack, etc. He is VERY food motivated due to past food insecurity and will literally dig in the trash and eat out of the trash, take from other kids, etc. The visual things are hit or miss, sometimes they work in the moment for a minute, he earns the token or sticker or whatever it is, he will be rewarded, and then he goes right back to the negative behavior.

He is very attention seeking and loves getting a reaction. When he is doing these things, he will look at myself and the staff and laugh. When we give him a clear direction, he will tell us “no”. When we physically move him if he is not being safe, like pulling him off of a shelf he is climbing, he will hit, bite, pull hair, etc.

He likes sensory activities like kinetic sand, but then will start putting things in his mouth and trying to ingest them, resulting in them being taken away. He likes to be a helper, so I try giving him special jobs to do. He likes putting on a show for people, if he is getting a reaction from staff or other kids, he will continue and laugh and laugh.

Today was the start of the summer program for me. He also started with a 1:1 aide today from a different agency, which is great and he literally needs all the support he can get. So for the summer, he will have a 1:1 aide with him at all times, plus me for 9 hours a week. I am seeing him for increased hours over the summer (9 hours a week is what I can do, he was approved for 10.)

Ideally, he needs to be in a self contained setting, like a 6:1:1 or 8:1:1. Mom and dad aren’t against it, they have toured different places but haven’t found one they love, they want to keep trying “regular” daycare programs and the waitlists for self contained placements are long. He has another year before he will enter kindergarten.

Any suggestions are appreciated! I feel like I’ve made minimal progress with him. Sometimes I feel like I’m a trigger, when I arrive to the school, I feel like his behaviors amp up. His goals are to participate in a teacher led activity and minimize negative and aggressive behaviors in the classroom.

He loves the lion king, music, dancing, and food lol. He also likes books (most of the time). I’ve tried social stories with him as well. Help 😅😅😅 I really want to see him succeed and am just at a loss for what else to do for him.

I love this family and just want to help them. His twin brother has similar needs as well, but isn’t my student.

Assistant director-pros and cons

Hi! I am interested in applying for an assistant director position at a daycare/preschool facility. Would love to hear from assistant directors-what do you love about your job, what do you not like? My biggest hesitations are having to cover classrooms if the teacher is out and not being able to do the actual job because of staffing issues and having to deal with people calling out all the time (I’m not sure if that’s more the directors job or assistant director, or if that depends on the center). Any insight is appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone here have their PhD?

I’ve been thinking about going into higher education/becoming an education professor for awhile now. That or becoming an associate researcher/program evaluator for early childhood programs. I found an online PhD program that sounds awesome. Would love to hear from other educators that have their PhD or are currently working on it! Of course it’s a lot of time and money. I can give more specifics on my situation if anyone is interested in chatting and answering questions I have. Thank you!!

Snoring and tonsil removal

Hi everyone. Does anyone have experience with getting their tonsils out as an adult? I am going for a consult next week and I’m pretty positive they are going to have to come out. They have gotten bigger over the years, my right tonsil is now completely covering my uvula and my left tonsil is basically touching the uvula. I am also sick all the time (I work with preschool kids too so that doesn’t help).

Just wondering realistically how much it would help my snoring if I got them out. I was diagnosed in 2024 with severe obstructive sleep apnea and I know I snore badly. I do have a cpap but tbh I don’t use it regularly. I absolutely hate it. I’m 32 F, 5’1, about 180 lbs, and I know that weight also plays a factor.

In my adult life, I feel like my tonsils have gotten worse. I believe I still snored back when I was in college 10+ years ago and 60 ish pounds ago. It’s hard to remember but I feel like I remember my boyfriend at the time telling me I snored and I didn’t believe him 😂

I also have a deviated septum. Has anyone had that fixed along with their tonsils, and noticed a difference in their snoring? Any of this will be worth it to me if it helps even a little bit with my snoring. Thanks!!
