Do you really need track access to get the shot? 🤔
Hey, everyone! Last weekend I was covering the Road Tourism (the highest category of race car series on the track in Argentina)
(TC) and a mini debate was set up in the paddock that I wanted to share with you.
As you may already know, there are two types of credentials for media: annual and career by career. In this event, only those who had annual passes could enter the track, while the rest of us were restricted. This divided the group quite a bit: some were in favor of the rule for safety issues, while others were totally against it.
Personally, I see both sides. Many times, people who have race-by-race credentials are new to motorsport and, if they do not have the right experience, they can easily end up being a safety risk when trying to cross or work near the track. Perhaps a better solution would be to filter access based on a proven track record of circuit experience, rather than looking only at the type of accreditation.
But beyond the rules, I was left thinking: is it really essential to be glued to the edge of the asphalt to take a great photo?
I feel that the event goes all over the place, not just on the track. If you know how to look, you can capture powerful photos that say a lot from other angles that tell an equally good story. What do they think?
