Photo guy takes video (Bus stop)

Video is nothing special, just cool seeing the different lines and some cars jumping the curb. Bummer the Valkyrie was gone by this point.

Mostly a slow-pan photo kinda person, but tried a quick video. I figured it would be shaky without a monopod and handheld, but it’s not too bad. Setup was a d500 and 70-200 2.8.

Sat in two more cars this year at Watkins

Been a couple years, but I added two new ones to my list this year. AMG GT3, and LMP2. Might not be for everyone, but it never gets old to me sitting in these machines. Lighting inside the cars isn’t best, so these photos aren’t anything special. Just wanted to share how cool some teams can be.

Previously I’ve sat in an LMP3, Porsche cup, Lambo cup, and Mazda cup….and also an FR/F4 at another event. The LMP2 is my favorite so far.

(I have some videos from inside too, but not sure if I can add them as comments or not?)

Flyover for the Glen? Also, any special liveries announced yet?

With the flyover at the Rolex, and being the close to the 250th, does anyone think we’ll get a flyover this year? Really hoping so. Been going to the Glen and IMSA races for a while now, and this year’s Rolex is the only flyover I can remember.

Hoping we get some cool liveries too. It always seems like the Glen just has the normal ones. I’d just love to see Turner with their normal livery. The last year or two they’ve run the white/orange one.

Either way, hyped to be camping trackside in less than a week. Temps are looking great for the first time in a while.

My best single day haul: 7 Westclox, and one other

Already posted the Big Ben Style 1a, but here’s the rest of the haul from that day. All found at local-ish antique stores: 7 Westclox, and one electric: Big Ben style 1a, Big Ben style 7, Westclox America II, Westclox roll top travel, Westclox style 5 Pocket Ben, Two red Westclox folding travel clocks, and a Saks Fifth Avenue electric clock.

Notable things:
-FINALLY found red folding travel clocks. I almost roll my eyes when I see them because they’re never radium. Two in a day was awesome. The Travel Ben is a typical German low reader, but the square red one is my highest reading German clock.

-First Westclox America I’ve found. The style 7 is a different color than my other 7, so a nice addition.

-The pocket watch was $9 and decently hot at 10 uSv/h

-The Saks Fifth Avenue electric clock is my first electric clock with painted numbers. Need to repair the cord end, but that’s an easy fix.

Small frosted mug and large ceramic bowl, plus a clock

Looking for clocks and thought these uranium pieces were decent deals. $7 mug and $8 bowl. Didn’t expect the frosted glass to glow, let alone be uranium. The orange bowl is unmarked, and seems much older than my other orange glaze uranium. Photos don’t do it justice, but it’s one of the larger orange ceramics I’ve seen. All radiacode confirmed.

Clock is a Westclox Moonbeam.

Westclox Moonbeam, and a marching compass

Still need to share my haul from last weekend, but got two more yesterday while out running some errands:

-Westclox Moonbeam style 1. Only ever seen 2 in the wild, neither were radium. Was happy to find this one at my local antique store where I’ve never found a single radium clock before. Still works, including the bulb for alarm.

-Marching compass, from WW1 I think. Not a big fan of these since they don’t glow much and have exposed radium on the outside sights…..but still a very cool piece of history. All my compasses are different styles and types, so this is still a nice addition to the collection. Straight into a jar, and out to the garage with my other liquid compasses it goes.

1950’s HP 150a oscilloscope

This belonged to a friend’s grandfather. The friend didn’t know what it was or what to do with it, so that’s how it ended up with me. It’s been sitting in my garage for a few years, but I have plans to restore it. Wanted to share it in the current condition first. Not sure the last time it was actually used, or if anything was wrong. Although I’m not an electronics expert, my background is electrical so I feel pretty comfortable with a project like this.

Any suggestions on where to start, tools to have, or places to look for info/parts? I’m pretty sure there’s a decent YouTube series where a guy restored one of these, and I have some local sources for tubes, but that’s about it. I can get more photos if needed.

(Sorry if this is better suited for another sub)

Westclox Pocket Ben parts

I collect radium clocks and things, and found this Westclox Pocket Ben recently. It’s missing the knob to change the time, and maybe something else? Tried comparing to another pocket Ben I have, but I’m not too familiar with these. Any suggestions on where to find a replacement knob? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

I believe this is a style 5, 1946-1960. Decent condition, a little cloudy, but no paint dust. Included dose rate photo for anyone who is familiar/interested:

Hamilton beach mixer

I thought $35 with two mixing heads was a decent deal. What do you guys think?

Had a nice radium haul yesterday, but saw this mixer and couldn’t pass it up. Not really what I’m after, but I’ve seen quite a few similar ones and they usually go for much more. It’s missing the beaters, but I’m pretty sure they’re not too hard to find. Any additional info would be cool.

Pivot head moves nice, both mixers work in all speeds, and the bowl movement seems nice and smooth. Only initial thing I see, is one mixer needs the cord repaired. That’s an easy fix for me.

Pretty clean Big Ben style 1a

Had a nice haul of clocks yesterday, but had to share this style 1a real quick. Already have one but it’s a little beat up, so I couldn’t pass on this one. Almost missed it too, was basically on a bottom shelf. This is now my hottest clock at around 20 uSv/h. $30 ain’t too bad either.

Had to bring out the DSLR for the first couple photos.

National watch and clock museum radium

Finally stopped by the National watch and clock museum in PA. Been nearby at a few antique stores before, but never set aside the time for the museum. Really cool stuff.

The old clocks and history is fascinating, but I couldn’t help but look for radium too. Here’s a few I saw (one might be uranium). Obviously I didn’t take any spectrums to confirm, but I’m pretty confident these were radium. The navy boat clock was accessible enough to take a distant radiacode reading. The photo is about a foot away, still showing 3.0+ uSv/h.

My favorite was airplane clock with so many dials and all being luminous. The Desoto steering wheel with a radium clock in the middle was also really cool.

Small variety haul….uranium, cadmium, and radium

Decent haul of things last Friday. Didn’t find much radium, but still a decent variety…..Square shaped UG, Vaseline cup and saucer sets, cadmium goblet, orange uranium ceramic rooster, one radium clock and one radium compass:

-The cup and saucer sets are my first Vaseline pieces. I’ve seen a lot of Vaseline glass, but it’s always too expensive. These were $10 a set. Didn’t have any crackle glass either, so that’s a nice bonus.

-The orange uranium ceramic is a rooster shaped ashtray. It’s by far the strangest orange ceramic I’ve found yet. When I saw it, I jokingly held up my radiacode, and was shocked when it was actually uranium. Hotter than a fiesta plate too.

-Typical low reading German clock, but the spectrum is definitely radium. See through case is kinda cool. The remote, electric, ww2 compass is my favorite grab of the day though. Nice glow with all the markings being luminous, and pretty mild dose for military stuff. It was only $25, which is also pretty cheap for military stuff.

Two interesting finds last Friday

One clock and one compass. Couldn’t be more opposite ends of the radium world:

Typical low reading German clock, but with a clear blue acrylic case. Cool being able to see the clock mechanisms working. Definitely an odd one.

Remote indicating compass. Electric, not a typical fluid filled compass. Cool tech for the time. Pretty low reader for military radium, and was only $25. Nice glow with so many numbers and marks being luminous.

Road trip finds

Had a trip last weekend to Summit Point, and stopped at two antique places on the way back. Was a bit hungover and really didn’t feel like stopping anywhere, but I’m glad I did. Been busy lately and haven’t had time to hit any local places.

FINALLY found a roll top style Westclox travel clock. Only ever seen one before, but it was modified with a themed dial, so I passed. The minute hand on this one doesn’t glow anymore, but the painted numbers more than make up for it. For $16 I didn’t hesitate to buy. At 15+ uSv/h, it’s my hottest clock too.

Second one is a Telechron electric. My 3rd one, but this has some sort of marble style case. My other two are the plastic ivory. A bit cloudy and the paint isn’t the best condition, but still cool.

I collect radium clocks, and found this odd one last weekend. Church themed, and the alarm actually moves/rings the tower bell, and plays a tune. Generally I don’t run my radium clocks, they’re just displayed in a cabinet….but I would like to get the chime functioning correctly on this one. Seems to keep time well, and I can manually make the chime work, but I can’t seem to make it function off the clock/alarm by itself.

I’m guessing I’m just not setting it correctly, or the time and alarm aren’t in sync. I’m pretty good with mechanical things, but not very well versed in fixing clocks. I can see the alarm gear has an “arm” that will engage or disengage the chime. The alarm knob will pull out and kinda stay, which I would think sets the alarm, but doesn’t seem to work that way.

I included some photos of the backside. I’m hoping someone here can look at it, and guide me on how to properly set and/or adjust things.

(yes I’m aware of the dangers of radium)

Some recent finds: Clocks, a gauge, and a compass

Westclox Spur style 1, Baby Ben style 7, Small Concord clock with case, very odd Church themed clock, flap gauge, and a compass. Have quite a few more I might share soon as well. Sorry if this is too many photos:

Happy to finally find a square Westclox, and a different style Baby Ben….even though a chunk of paint broke off one of the hands. The church clock is very odd. Didn’t expect it to glow, let alone actually be radium. The alarm actually rings the church bell at the top too. Just need to get it working 100% again.

The flap gauge is a very low reader, but it is radium. Said to be ww2. Usually military gauges are really hot, so it’s nice to find a mild one. The compass is also very mild as far as compasses go….although it may not be military. If anyone knows anything about it, or any other item I’d love to know more.

Mostly looking for radium things, but sometimes I’ll grab other stuff. Got a little bit of everything on Friday….uranium, thorium, and radium.

1 uranium glass tray, 1 uranium ceramic gravy boat, 1 thorium cup and saucer set, and 4 more radium clocks. All radiacode confirmed. Total radium clocks over 30 now.

Gravy boat is a nice addition to my orange glaze collection. The square Westclox is my favorite from the bunch though. Painted numbers are always cool. The thorium set was $6, and also glows under 395 and 365. It’s likely contaminated with uranium…but I still need to do a spectrum. The church clock actually rings the tower bell from the alarm too. Probably the strangest radium clock I have. Weird haul.
