Picked up this sassy little queen today

She's a hypo Morelia Bredli, she's gorgeous and wants to murder me and I love her so much 😭

I said I was going to focus on just the one snake when I got back into keeping with my imperator, but I've always adored carpets and had to have her. She is named Misty!

Adult BI enclosure size

Hi all, hope you are well.

I have a boa imperator that is currently around 7/8 months old. It’s living in a 3ft wide vivarium right now. The snake itself is about 3ft long already and quite an active explorer at night. So I’m thinking it’s time for an upgrade.

But rather than faff about with another temp vivarium I’m thinking of diving straight to an adult sized enclosure, however the room the snake is housed in I am limited for space. The biggest size vivarium I can get made up is 6ft wide, 4ft high and 2ft deep (I want to offer some height for climbing opportunities).

I don’t know the gender of the snake (plan to find out), so ofc I’m worried that the vivarium may still not be wide enough especially if it’s a female. I want it to be able to stretch out fully in its home!

If such a vivarium isn’t going to be big enough then we will put snakey in another room that can accommodate something larger. But ideally I’d like it to remain in the room it’s in as there is less traffic walking past it to disturb it.

What are your thoughts please? Should I get it sexed first then make the decision? Would you go for another inbetween viv before an adult one? It will be decorated to the brim with lots of hiding spots.

Also, whilst I’m here, how the hell are we heating up huge enclosures effectively 😅

UK heatwave

As it’s currently sweltering in the UK (it’s not the same heat as other countries, we’re more humid, our houses are designed to retain heat and none of us have air con blah blah blah). I am concerned about my boas temps. It’s reading 32c across the whole tank, shall I even bother to have the ceramic heater on right now? Obviously I don’t want it getting too cool when temps drop at night but I think I’d rather have a slightly cold boa than one that has nowhere to escape the heat! I’ve been misting the tank more frequently and the lil’ guy doesn’t seem to be in any distress, it’s chilling in its usual spot and ate yesterday without issue.

Appreciate any guidance!

Just bought a house, the loo fell off the wall

Sooo yeah, our new home came with a floating wall mounted loo, my fella rang me this morning to say it fell off the wall whilst he was sitting on it.

He’s turned the water off as he had to leave for work, I haven’t had chance to look at it as it happened whilst I was already out.

Looks to me the frame was bolted straight into the wall and I am guessing the holes will now be crumbly little caves that we won’t be able to screw back into.

I imagine we are going to have to rip the backsplash panel off to be able to remount it (it was shagged anyway and I don’t like the colour of it so happy to replace that!).

What would be the best course of action here? How can we treat the wall to be able to screw back into the same spot? Or would you perhaps mount some wood to the wall instead and use that as the anchor point?

Do I need to be concerned that the waste and water pipes may have been displaced? The toilet is resting on the floor so it hasn’t fallen far, but I want to be certain it’s ok. Though I suppose if we are taking the back panel off we’re going to have to remove the whole toilet anyway…

If it’s beyond the amateur DIYist then tell me to book a plumber 😅 my plumbing skills are limited to changing taps and the odd sink waste pipe, but never tackled a toilet!

Luckily we have another toilet we can use whilst we wait for repair.

Thanks all!

Edit: thank you all for the helpful replies and the ones that gave me a chuckle, I’ve decided ‘in for a penny, in for a pound’ - I want to replace the toilet with one that also stands on the floor so the next time my boyfriend is curling one out we can be certain the loo is staying put

My BI is approx 6 months old, feeding on small, thawed rat fluffs edit: I weighed the rats and the smaller ones I’ve been using range from 13-16g, but there’s some whoppers in the bag weighing over 20g I’m not touching yet!

It has a great feeding response when presented with its meal, but it strikes and never coils up around the food. It often snatches its meal and drags it under its hiding spot. Tonight, it dragged it as usual and I could see it eating, but it gave up halfway through.

I think the issue is the front legs of the rat, as they don’t bend easily the snake struggles to get past them, especially when it’s not using its body to press the meal against.

Today however, I picked its rat up after it gave in and held it out again - it grabbed it and I continued to hold, it began eating immediately and was able to get the rat down easily using my grip (with tongs ofc) to fight against those pesky legs.

So my question is, do I continue to hold the food whilst it feeds (until it gets bigger and figures it out?) or do I start chopping the front legs off these rats to help it swallow unaided? Or should I change to mice for a while? I realise in the wild they wouldn’t have this assistance but I imagine a freshly killed rodent is a bit more pliable than a thawed one.

Maybe I’ve just got a lazy, spoiled boa…
