Back pain

Just got the mini potty and started placing LO (4 months) on the potty. How the heck do you do this without your back and neck aching??? Babe is squirming and pushing off the floor with their feet attempting to stand or falling sideways/backwards and I’m hunched over trying to keep her on and steady. Any tips??

PoA Firebolt Confiscation

I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I can’t seem to find a post.

I’m currently re-reading Prisoner of Azkaban and am at the part where McGonagall confiscates the firebolt.

Couldn’t they just contact the broom shop and confirm that they delivered it? Or were they worried that the package was intercepted? As far as I remember, Sirius gave the note to Crookshanks, who sent an owl, and then I would imagine the quidditch shop then sent the broomstick directly to Harry.

Numnum Gootensils vs Munchkin

Are the numnum gootensils really that much better than the cheaper munchkin alternative? Has anyone used both?

Two Lord Voldemorts?

Hypothetically - if Voldemort was still alive and someone had gotten hold of the diary (like Ginny did) and young Tom Riddle took possession of that person and came back to life, would there be two Voldemorts? Or would the diary/horcrux be unable to create a body like it attempted to with Ginny if the original Voldemort was still around?

Supported sitting potty recommendation

I would love to start EC with our 4mo. LO was almost 10 lb when born (now 17 lb) and quite tall and it was difficult for me to hold LO over the sink or potty due to her weight/my lack of strength.

Now that LO can do supportive sitting, I’d love to start implementing EC. Does anyone have potty recommendations that are good for this age and low to the ground? Are there any that are ergonomic to not affect hip development negatively? I’m probably overthinking this.

Any other advice or recommendations is welcome as well! Thank you!

Spectra alternatives to plastic parts

We’re trying to reduce plastic in our lives where we can. Does anyone have any non-plastic alternatives that are compatible with the spectra?

I’ve seen a few glass bottle recommendations, but I worry they will be too heavy. I often have to keep working at work while I’m pumping so need them to be relatively hands free. Has anyone tried anything stainless steel or silicone? Bonus points if it can be used in a breast milk chiller for storage at work.

Thanks!

Pumping Advice Needed - pain and low output

I am really struggling with pumping pain and low output and keeping up with LO’s intake. I currently have a spectra, Elvie, haakaa, and the medela hand pump and I’ve tried the medela symphony at the hospital once.

The spectra gives me a couple of ounces each session (3 if I’m really lucky), but it is so painful. I’ve tried flange sizes 12-17mm, maymom pano flanges, Pumpin’ pals, lacteck, and silicone inserts. The 12-13mm were definitely too small and rubbing. 15 mm were okay. The 17mm seemed to do the best, but it’s still painful and at the end of my last session I had a bump on the side of my nipple (skin colored, not blood or fluid filled). Does this mean the 17 mm is too big? Still too small? I don’t know what to try next. I’ve tried with and without coconut oil. Half the time I’m pumping on vacuum level 1 just because it’s all I can handle.

I tried the medela symphony and it didn’t hurt at all, but I got less out than the spectra, which seems to be the opposite of most peoples experience. Am I doing something wrong?? The hospital I work at is also remodeling the lactation room soon, so I don’t even know if I’ll have access soon and how long the remodel will take.

And the Elvie makes me want to cry. I have to work by myself in the hospital sometimes and can’t leave my unit, so I really need a portable pump to work for me. But half the time when I try it I don’t get anything out. The other half of the time, it’s like 0.25 ounces. And the rare instance when I get one or two ounces, it hurts so much.

The haakaa - also hurts (you’ll see a theme here). I’ve tried all the tricks (press lighter, don’t fold it back, use it in the shower, etc). And the medela hand pump works (still only an ounce or two), but I can’t fully press the lever either or it also hurts. Half the time I just use the stimulation lever and forget the actual expression lever.

I’m not even sure what my question is. Maybe advice on where to go next? I feel like I’m out of ideas and I’m feeling very down about pumping in general and don’t know how I’m going to keep it up for a whole year. Do I use the hospital symphony and deal with an even lower output? But then what do I do when I can’t use the lactation room? Try another flange size for my spectra? Any advice is appreciated.

Lighthearted book that immediately grabs your attention

I’m struggling to find a book that will get me hooked. I work in the medical field, so reading a bunch of medical literature has made reading for fun more difficult. I used to read alllll the time growing up and really want to get back into it.

A coworker recently suggested “Behind Closed Doors” by B.A.Paris and it was just too creepy for me, started affecting my sleep, and I couldn’t finish it. I went to re-read the hunger games books, and that was also too much for me mentally and started giving me bad dreams, even though it didn’t used to affect me. Maybe becoming a parent has softened my tolerance.

I think I need something lighthearted, but grabs your attention in the first few pages. I used to like romance, but lately can’t get into them and don’t really want to read heavy smut. I just re-read all of the Harry Potter books and enjoyed that.
