Theme: Stars and Stripes

Cover art by Simon and Kirby, Bob Montana and Alex Schomburg. Seems like there's another guy who wears the stars and bars, probably not as popular as these guys though 😉

Happy Fourth to those who celebrate, our kitties sure don't! Fireworks just a few blocks away 🙀

Concert ticket stubs, 1967-1973. I went to all except the Youngbloods (car trouble)

Personal faves for me were Pete Seeger, Donovan (from 1967, the height of flower power) , Moby Grape and Springsteen from 1973. Only our student concert coordinator, who was from Jersey, knew who Bruce was, and he spent the week before the show going from dorm to dorm insisting that this would be the best $3 we ever spent. He was correct.

Two Harvey Kurtzman paperback books, 1965 and 1961.

That Fun and Games is my original copy, bought at Cheap Charlie's drug store in 1965. Charlie may have been cheap, but he always had a superior selection of comics, paperbacks and magazines.

Wallace Wood, pride of Menahga, Minnesota, was born June 17th, 1927 (Pop. of Menahga was 486 in 1930).

These are my original subscription copies. I can't explain the excitement I got when these boys landed in my mailbox in 1966-67. Cutting edge comics (and more) from Wood and his gang. And RBCC was basically the ebay/Craigslist/HA/reddit for comic book collectors. I'd have to check, but I think the circulation for issues 54/56 was about 1200, not counting the other fans it got passed onto (after the subscriber went through it for a few days). I passed my copy to three other guys in my neighborhood. Always got it back though!

Just a note to add that Mr. Wood disliked being called "Wally"; He preferred Wallace or "Woody". He even signed some of his early comics "Woody". So in respect for my all-time favorite comic book artist, I'll call him Wallace.
