New retrocomputing group in Northeastern PA!

Hey everyone!

If you're in or near Northeastern PA and have an interest in retrocomputing, I've set up the NEPA Retrocomputing Group to connect local enthusiasts.

Anyone is welcome if they're interested in restoring hardware, writing code, playing games, or simply feeling nostalgic about older technology.

We meet once a month to have a coffee, talk over our projects, display our equipment, and establish a local community. Our next meetup is:

  • Where: JivaJava Cafe (3427 PA-611, Bartonsville, PA)
  • When: Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 PM

If interested visit our website and sign up for our mailing list!

Hope to see a few of you there! 😄

So THRILLED! Modeling Clay Mod Makes Unicomp Model M Mini Feel Premium

Made one of my absolute favorite modifications to my Unicomp Model M Mini today. 😍

While the keys offer a fantastic (IMO) feel and sound that is a direct throwback to the original IBM Model M SSK, the body has a light plastic feel that is a bit ‘creaky’ to the touch.

I ordered modeling clay and filled out the hollow spaces in the top and bottom cases, and WOW, what an amazing difference. The unit is now a pound heavier, and the creakiness is gone. It went from feeling like a light, cheap keyboard to something of substance.

The sound is also significantly better with less of that high-pitched hollow plastic sound and more of a deep clacking sound.

I continue to love this Unicomp keyboard, and now, with some tweaks that cost less than $10, it feels and sounds even better!
