Q: What really is energy?

My general chemistry teacher was really taken aback when I raised my hand to ask him for a definition of energy. He genuinely didn't know what to say, at the end of class he came to try to clarify what I was asking for, if I meant a specific type of energy, and he ended the conversation saying that he prefers not to venture into the topic and that I should ask a physics teacher. Which I don't have. I don't know if it was a silly question to ask, it's just been ages since I did any science and I like to try to understand everything and it felt like a gap in my knowledge.

So anyways, how do you define energy? What do all the forms of energy have in common?

I ended no contact a few months ago and my dad has been diagnosed with cancer today.

I don't know what I am going to do now. I felt I finally started to get things under control in my life with mental health medication, getting rid of some of my debt, talking to my parents again... And this news dropped after my first class.

I don't know how I am going to juggle new financial responsibilities, being the emotional anchor for my mother, keeping up with school + work, being the liaison between doctors across countries and so much more. Our relationship is already fraught. My mom has anxiety and probably a panic disorder. They are pretty broke and in debt. And just so much more that I can't explain here.

I am waiting on details tomorrow on the extent of his illness and the treatment options, but the first doctor who saw him told me pretty straightforwardly that we would be thinking in years and that this is going to be a lifetime treatment.

I just could barely hold it together and now I don't know how I will manage. I have to work. I have bills. I want to stay in college, I just started after years of being away but with this situation I am wondering if I should take leave to take care of him. Especially given he left for another country to seek treatment and is not with us now.

ADHDers going into college after years out of education, how'd you do it?

6 years since high school, 4 years since college (failed out), any advice? Will be completing some basic science courses, long-term goal is pharmacy. My load this semester should be pretty light (only two science courses, chemistry and precalc).

Have been working on building my studying habits over the past few months and spend a few hours a day studying but there is certainly a lot of distraction, I often get lost in curiosity loops when trying to understand certain principles or rules so I think I haven't worked out enough problems and mostly done a lot of reading. Medicated but on a low dose that wears off rather early that I can't adjust higher due to anxiety.

Is getting a Brick worth it?

I start school in exactly a week and I am worried! I have not managed to get my phone usage under control especially in the morning and at night. I have been considering a Brick for a little while but they are not cheap and have already spent quite a bit on other things to help me focus/study which have been good investments, like a whiteboard, noise cancelling headphones, etc. Restriction apps, greyscale, don't help that much. I do need to be reachable so I can't like put my phone away for the whole day (not that it works either).

Has anyone used it with success?

Merci.

Could a fistula be a symptom of a much worse infection than evaluated?

Would appreciate opinions as I am not sure if I am worrying for nothing here....

I started experiencing extreme pain last week, saw my dentist on Thursday who referred me to an endodontist I had seen previously and handed me a prescription for pain meds. He suspected a root canal was needed for one of two teeth (36 and 37), but was unsure which after testing.

I saw the endo on Monday. Between Thurs and Monday, a fistula appearead over the gum covering the wisdom tooth behind 37. The pain had also progressed in that area. The endodontist confirmed that 36 needed a root canal and said the fistula was unrelated/not the source of the pain. She explained how the area over can get a local infection, how wisdom teeth removal will solve the issue and told me I did not need any antibiotics for it. Just to wait for my surgery.

But here I am on Wednesday with a fever despite taking Tylenol and Advil daily for pain. 37.5 oral reading, 38 rectal reading.

I called her office and the secretary was a bit confused. She said that it likely is unrelated, that I had just been seen and that fever is a symptom for much worse infections than mine.

Fistula is the same size and doesn't look any worse.

What do? Wisdom teeth removal is scheduled for next Tuesday. Surgeon's office know about the fistula and the pain etc. The timing of everything is pretty bad. :(

Your relationship with caffeine on meds?

Woke up on six hours of sleep feeling tired and spent. It has been fourteen days on Vyvanse (20mg), I have not been journaling about my experience on it much and I should absolutely start since one of the main issues I am running into is.... to drink or not to drink coffee. I have had coffee make me awful jittery (I remember that happening once when I drank it at 3PM), have had days where I drank 3-4 coffees and completely zoned out (dosage isn't high enough to prevent stupid impulsive purchases!), but I also feel like it may help particularly when I am not fully rested. Though it works temporarily. And that is pretty important since I like to spend a chunk of the day studying. Used to be immune to caffeine, BTW.

What has your experience been like, what's your medication, how much coffee do you drink and when?

How do you get yourself to do the monumental 'tasks'? Reaching out to a family member, having the hard conversation, etc.

Anyone else's first day on Vyvanse?

How do you feel?

I woke up and scrolled for about an hour, had half a cigarette and a not nutritious breakfast before finally taking my pill. I got some cleaning done but in my usually chaotic manner, it's nearly four hours in and I still have not managed to get myself in the shower and feeling a bit hyper/nervous. Was hoping to be able to focus and study later but not sure how it will pan ou. Only on 10 mg for this week before moving up to 20.

Hey gang.

Thanks!
