$3 toast set with nice eggs and teh-O

$3 toast set with nice eggs and teh-O

Value for money!

Nicely done eggs, comparable to those in expensive toast sets :) Though could have been served warm.

Toast at least is 2 full slices of bread, not the cut-in-half crumbly kind!

And with great tasting tea -- you hardly get this standard at Toast Box :( -- everything went down well.

Yummy!!

Double-portion fried pork chops Shanghai kway teow that's hard to beat!

Seriously, this stall set the bar high for (low) price, (great) taste and (large) portion size.

Freshly cooked thin kway teow in dark sauce with egg, shreds of cabbage and chopped onions. Plenty of wok hei!

Nicely marinated tender pork chops that's lightly fried. So yummy :)

Did that 2nd photo make you salivate? Lol

At $5.50 + 3 for an extra serving of pork chop, this to me is unbeatable value for a deeply satisfying and full meal ;)

2-in-1 Iberico tonkatsu with shabu set @Gochi-So Shokudo -- Best of both worlds!

After yesterday's dismal butadon, things were looking up with today's Jap lunch at Plaza Sing ;)

Tonkatsu with shabu shabu -- what a nice way to enjoy both deep fried Spanish pork alongside healthier cooked-in-broth meat!

Their pork cutlet actually got standard, way better than Katsu-an's (comparing based on price point), with tasty crispy batter that stays on, not fall apart when you pick up each slice.

Katsu sauce was tangy, which brought out the meat flavour even more.

The raw meat for shabu was a pork belly cut, less attractive than the pork collar (see last photo) served with the shabu-only meal my wifey ordered.

Still, the miso broth made the belly meat tasty enough; and the shitake, shimeji, tomato, corn, pumpkin and cabbage in the soup made for a balanced meal.

I would definitely return to enjoy tonkatsu (with loads of finely chopped cabbage drenched in goma sauce!) and shabu with quality meat, but as individual meals though ;)

Damage: $15.90++ each for 2-in-1 set and shabu shabu standalone.

King butadon @Aburi-En -- Quality seemingly lacKING (pun?)

To be honest, I actually wish this were only a pun...

But I had two shocks from today's visit to Aburi-En at Suntec City!

Firstly, when the butadon arrived at my table, it was really impressive: 9 slices of grilled pork loin (regular, not chestnut pork though) atop plenty of chopped cabbage, atop quality Jap rice!

Ok, nice start, I was thinking. Until I bit into the meat...

Almost total horror -- overly tenderized meat void of any bite!! While the cross-section showed meat fibre, it has been broken down by whatever tenderizing method they had used!!!

For lack of a better description, it felt like eating some kinda doughy cake lol

So, that was $18.90++ not well spent; but of course never again.

Simple hawker fare @Pek Kio Market -- $4 wanton mee

Decent wanton mee at just 4 bucks...

The noodles were springy; no alkaline taste!

I like the thinly sliced char siew, which was sweet and tender ;)

However, the wantons had a hard texture!! Not the usual delicate dumpling you'd get at some places.

Still, this is comparable to the likes of Tanjong Rhu... but much cheaper.

Decent basil pork rice @kopitiam square

Nicely done fried egg too.

Is $17.50 too much for a hawker centre ribeye steak?

Just curious, did I get chopped?

Meat from unknown country of origin, not told if grain or grass fed...

Tasted ok for medium rare doneness, but looked like about 150g serving size only!

Sides are fixed: deep fried potato ball and baked beans; other options are chargeable!

I traded both for just coleslaw, for a more balanced meal :)

Not exactly worth the 25 min wait imho.

Where else can I enjoy wallet friendly steaks at non-restaurant establishments?

Crazy NQ trading day?!

Wild but solid price moves today on the NQ!

Right out of the gate, almost, price rallied 400+ points, from the 931am ET candle low...

Only to sell off once the 30k level couldn't hold, going all the way back to the opening price where a good bounce occurred ;)

On the hourly chart, it looked like the CRT setup would be fulfilled, if that 931am low price -- the current day low -- was visited. There is still time though.

Trades were possible in both directions -- did you manage to get a fair share?

M Burger @Plaza Sing -- Anyone tried the PS Burger meal?

Anyone tried this already? Any good??

I find the $22 price tag for their PS Burger (which is double patty) not appealing, so I walked away!

Any compression chin up bar to recommend for HDB?

Looking for reliable DIY chin up bar to install on door frame or passage way.

Preferably with some kinda locking mechanism for a sturdy and secure setup.

100-120kg load would be enough.

The King has done it again :)

Savouring two single-patty Mushroom Swiss burgers now at Waterway Point... added a small OJ for $1.50 extra...

How to go about the first payout? Do share your dos and don'ts :)

When aiming for that first payout (with 50k Flex), should a trader go for max 2k; or just cash out a reasonable sum, say ~1k, and buy more evals?

Planning ahead... ;)

Decent laksa... with bits of haebi in the curry!

Quite yummy laksa with thick gravy.

I like that I could taste haebi bits ;)

Ghib-san gave his thumbs up for Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee -- Is it really worth it waiting in the long line for this?

This food video review was from 2025...

I'm wondering: Do Redditors concur with Ghib-san on the greatness of Outram Park CKT?

Or is this just another hype which arose from winning some M-brand award?

Ngl, I'm no gourmand when it comes to char kway teow... and I eat them hum-less, which probably goes against the die-hard fan's way of enjoying this local dish ;)

In my book of good eats, the key thing which distinguishes good CKT from lousy is the sliced Chinese sausage.

Of course the sweet black sauce also plays an important role. And plenty of soft egg lol

So, is it worth a trip to Hong Lim for this famed fried kway teow?

Let's hear from you.

Big Fish Small Fish -- Simple things in life are free?

What a welcome change in terms of hospitality!

The moment I sat down, they brought out a cone of crisps and a glass of iced water :)

And I was told the crispy bites could be refilled!

This is even better than Jap restaurants, which used to serve hot green tea without being asked; and mostly for free. Made diners really feel welcome... but such a practice had gone the way of the dodo bird :(

Sorry, I digressed!

The dory fish in signature house batter was very fresh. The flaky and moist fish meat was delectable, whether eaten as is or dipped into tartar sauce ;)

The thing that surprised me was the hand-mashed potato. I'd expected the usual dollop of creamy starch, typically doused with brown sauce.

But it wasn't like that. There were real potato bits in the "slab" of mash that's not been made into a fine and smooth paste. Very unique and tasty!

Indeed it was a yummy and satisfying meal of fish and chips.

Din Din Western Corner @Upp Boon Keng -- Grilled pork chops + extra pork cutlet

Not gatekeeping this old school Western stall at Blk 17 Upper Boon Keng Rd that serves affordable yet tasty meals.

Good food finds must share, right? :)

Just $7 for 2 pcs of tender pork chops, with sides of coleslaw, fries and baked beans -- I didn't get the latter two sides though.

Mind you, these are bone-in chops (very much to my liking)!

I piled on a piece of pork cutlet for only $2.50 more. Crispy; and tender meat as well.

Such a filling (meat-lover) meal for under 10 bucks ;)

Where else can we get such wallet-friendly Western food that's yummy? Do share your go-to makan places.

Anyone wearing OwnDays progressive lenses?

Wondering how's their lens quality these days, esp progressive ones...

I bought before a few years back and their prescription was somewhat off :( Weirdly, the lenses had some level of distortion!

Ended up going to Lenskart.

But I need a replacement pair of glasses, so considering OD once more.

Do share your recent experience if you're using their progressive lenses, much thanks :)

Raising the bar on Koka noodles... at Punggol Place!

I didn't know Koka noodles can taste so good!

This Hong Hu Ramen stall is really something...

Egg with runny yolk; crunchy cabbage strips; tender minced pork; bouncy black mushroom; and crispy ikan bilis :)

Above all, firm and slightly springy Koka noodles!

Only downside was soup being a tad salty lol

Definitely one of the answers next time when I need to ponder that $64m question ;)

Steamed Society @People's Park -- Pork ribs rice bowl with Sichuan pork rib soup

First time trying... $6.50 for this set of rice bowl with soup.

Pork ribs were tender; rice was piping hot.

Sichuan veg was soft; soup was light and flavourful.

Meat portion could have been bigger lol

Overall a simple but satisfying meal :)
