I think I hit upon something else AND another possible, horrific, method and motive Benefactors use to assure a Companion will be bonded to a Jumper. And it was staring me in the face the whole time.

See also all those media staring you and more. The benefactors can farm you for entertainment production and facilitation and acquisition. You are a cultural product/export/lubricant/seeding. Everywhere import or drop in you are seeding, carefully out of sight, into the very culture and development in a way you will likely, certainly miss (they control your developmental years) and Companions will be whammied to not tell or know (as simple as, its rude or they don't know they aren't real). Ala Chuck early appearance you're cult low circulation random publishing. But you'll be your companions. And maybe not direct. Their mentor, favorite aunt or teacher, or their mum was a fan. They might not even know know but have been primed so view you as nice/interesting in ways stand out and appeal.

Its rather brilliant. I mean I don't go around saying "you're fiction outloud," I might say "I am from other world and saw a tale or legend of you." Benefactors are powerful but they are lying to you, like anything with a pr or marketing department, especially on power and their independence

And like any good version of those.They are technically correct in what they tell you and what they can do with relationship to you.But what they probably aren't telling you is that your relationship to them is highly unique and what are their obligations and limitations

Like a life of crime in the drug, trade could be incredibly bloody and difficult. And bigshots are certainly not above making an entire model about exploiting other people and wanting to kill for territory. But they don't want to get in a war because those are gigantic profit sinks. And benefactors are not really that bad.

But just like there's a lot of c*** underneath our entertainment industry or systems or whatever.We use for pleasure, so too.Is there with the benefactors

And either they don't want to deal with it because it makes things more complicated.Or you don't want to deal with that

Hate it when it seems for being so awesome the universe punishes you by taking it away at random? You well Basically this works akin to a power los drawback but different. At the start of a new episode or installment you'll suffer trouble or loss until clear every obstacle to the the finish line or cross it or get someone who is native to the setting/story (even if Companion or produced by some other process, like a grudge enemy) to help solve it so regain full capacity. Or the episode must pass and then will easily recover in full capabilities and items until next time. As where WHAT you lose we decide this like Olodumare like (yay sacrilegious cultural appropriation!) You choose a number sided die to roll or coin to flip d10? Divide your chain into ten segments, then number them in chronological order. The number that comes up? all the perks and items you had from THAT segment are lost and fail until past the episode or end of jump, whichever comes first, then restored to you and then we handle your dispensation of perks and items and rewards and such as per chain rules.

d6? Roll the die, the number represents perks you must sacrifice for the episode. You can roll again for items and trade half the result for return of the perks but still lose full number of items. or reroll again and the result is number of drawbacks you suffer for the episode, and at no cp gain either. You can double up on already had drawbacks but this increases the severity arithmetically. if trade in the drawbacks for restoration they can persist beyond the episode but will lose fiat backing as to just fall off and seeming solve themselves.

d4? Roll twice. First time multiply by 100 to determine how high the cp of the anti-slot will be you must feed. the second roll determines the number of anti-slots you must fill. And you must start with perks equal to or greater than the slot only if fail to have ones of sufficient value may you fill in multiple lessers. Unless you agree that you not just lose the perks in those slots. You give them to me and I can use them on the jump or inhabitants I so choose to make things more.. entertaining as I see fit.

d20? arbitrary number perks and items taken from number of episodes/adventures the complication/loss persists. You can 'buy down' the number by sacrificing more individual things to a value of at least 1. If you don't buy down once you reach the right number you gain things as immediately and how you want at Fiat by your choice or preference (if perhaps incapacitated somehow). If you do while can gain the one(s) I picked to take from you immediately what you bought down with persists loss for an ADDITIONAL length of installments equal to number bought down from or until jump ends, whichever comes first. JUMP not series. if this would exceed number of installments I can put them in his slot machine call Diabolus Ex Machine and pull the lever. Whatever comes out I can utilize or given out to someone else. If they are not defeated (or agree to share/give you the power, same difference to me) that is lost forever. Not what is in the machine what was deployed from it. Protip, what goes out coincides but not necessarily the same as what goes in the slot machine. Some invert or twist it or give something of equal value fitted for someone not you. And that person might not be a villain.
