As requested: Glove stories from an ex-pro. The 6 finger Pro Preferred

This was the first requested, which is fun because it’s my favourite non-catchers mitt! My intro to this glove was from a teammate who was a PO. He used it as his shag glove, and I ALWAYS asked to see it because I loved it. Anyways…

Each time I moved up a level (this time to just Indy ball) I usually had a catcher in front of me, but I had a pretty decent stick. So, one day our coach goes “hey OP, can you play outfield?” Truthfully I hadn’t since grade 10, but nonetheless it was a chance to play. I immediately turned my head towards said PO teammate who rolled his eyes and threw it at me. I ended up playing like 40 games that year in RF and he eventually sold it to me for $50. Was never a full time OFer, but this was the glove when I did!

I remember the first time using it because it may as well have been my first time playing OF😂. Their 3 hole was this lefty unit. First inning he hits this SKY HIGH fly ball. I get what I think is camped and go “ok I got this”. The ball goes over the lights and I lose it, which is expected, but when it came out of the lights was about 150ft to my left. Got on my horse and had to dive to make the catch on what should’ve been the most routine of routine balls. I also remember that game because they had 7 lefties in the lineup, and I got peppered with balls (made no errors though lol). However, they didn’t have a scouting report on me obviously, so they sent a dude for a SACF on a mid fly ball. I threw him out, felt cool. They thought it was a fluke (me too), so few innings later they sent a guy from second to home on a single. I threw him out too. There was another force play, but yeah, I ended up with 3 OF assists in my first game out there which was with this glove.

I have ZERO knowledge, but this was passed down from my great grandpa. Questions about setup, etc.

I would like to learn how to play as he was the only musician in our family. He fought in WW2 and took very good care of his instruments. However, it hasn’t been played in 25+ years. I would like to learn to play, both for fun and he would want this thing to be played! I don’t know a brand or year.

Basically, I don’t want to seem like a dummy when I take it into a shop. I want to just say “do whatever needs to be done”, but are there scams I should be looking out for? Any other things I may need or ask about?

Basically, pls tell me what I should look to do with this old fiddle.

Found a BK18 on sale for $120CAD at Canadian Tire and, well, impulses. Keep on with the ESEE or switch to the Ka-Bar?

I’ve fucked up the past couple months. I got back from college and got asked to coach 2 baseball teams. I HATE baseball. Yes I was good; got drafted but never signed, had a good college career but it ended with a bad injury. Idk if I’m angry at the game, feel like I failed, idk but I HATE it. I only accepted the spots because I felt bad.

Fast forward a month and I get a job I applied for way before. $103k a year at entry, and my dream job. It’s also the only job of the type near me. I LOVE where I live. I QUIT because I couldn’t make the 16 hour days work (we have baseball 6-7 days a week) instead of quitting coaching. I regret it. A lot. More than I’ve ever regretted anything and it’s not even close. I had to move back in with my parents because I took a 60% pay cut. But I try and tell myself the groups are more important than me.

Now I’ve been losing it. I mean everyday panic attacks, trying to decide whether or not to “go missing” or show up. But I have the team equipment, so if I don’t show they can’t play. That’s what keeps me here. So I drink or get high (weed), as it’s the only way I cannot have panic attack and sleep.

The other day I didn’t get high, and I had a full blown panic attack/mental breakdown in my truck in the parking lot. Like screaming, crying, I passed out, threw shit, hit a pole with my truck pulling in and wrecked the door, etc. I couldn’t stop it. I ended up getting sent home and now the organization needs to “have a talk” with me.

I was known as one of the toughest - physically and mentally - to come through the program, and have a reputation for being able to handle anything. The person that would give up absolutely everything for the team if it means going through hell. I tried to do so. I permanently left the job I wanted to do for the rest of my life for this just for one season, even though I HATE doing this (it’s not a job you just get back). Then I still blew that reputation up in a day. Ruined. Now that thought of disappearing sounds even better.

If I want another job in the industry I have to move to a new town, but I really don’t want to. But all my contacts in this industry are gone anyways if I decided to; the people I quit from and now my current organization (who were my references and had contacts for the job I loved). So I don’t see myself going back to what I love. I just wanna be done. I’ve done a lot with my life. I think I’ve done good for these people up until now. Maybe if I do go missing now they’ll forget the other day and my legacy will still be what it was…

TL;DR I made a really dumb decision quitting my dream job to do something I hate out of obligation. Had mental breakdown and might get fired from the organization I quit for too.

We turned our irrigation on at the fields 2 days ago after it had been +15°C and up for a couple weeks. It dropped to -17°C at night and got called at 5am to come drain and unhook. We used my tools, but had to undo a bitch of a thread that’s been on longer than I’ve been there (we couldn’t drain normally due to snow). Boss and I combined to strip my tongue and grooves and f*ck up the side side cutters. Wasn’t super mad b/c they were $30 Husky ones that were 10 years old.

But, he told me they’d take care of me for the tools. Came back with coffee and these… “they were on clearance so you get needle noses too” he says.
